Lurk no more, fat no more
Hi everyone, recent lurker here just signed up. I have found this website to be a treasure trove of info, especially when it comes to being vegan and on slimming world (I like to make things difficult)!! I'm gonna be posting up my menu and meals...and looking for inspiration
I have 6 stone to lose, have lost seven in the last 3 weeks. Slow and steady wins the race x
Hi Mandlegrot. How are you finding slimming world? I am vegetarian and the green days fitted quite well with that when I did it!
Hey, I'm finding it OK, although am I am struggling to not have 15 syns a day! Being vegan I don't have free yogurt which is a pain as I love fruit and yog for breakfast. Plus there are no low-fat vegan versions of food, like low-fat mayo...1 tbsp of vegan mayo is 4.5 syns I will get there with it, just need to tweak it a bit. I am only doing green days as it would be even harder on red or EE!!!
Did you lose much weight on it?
B - 2x nimble bread (HEB1), tin of beans, 2 sage and onion sausages, mushrooms leeks and onion fried in fry lite
L - 4x ryvita (HEB2), tsp of peanut butter, tbsp of jam, plum (5 syns)
D - baked potato, vegan bolognaise, salad (3 syns)
Alpen light cereal bar (3 syns)
1 tsp hot choc - (1 syn)
Not at great day, was very busy so not a great lunch...will try harder tomorrow! 12 syns is fairly low for me, but I was hoping to save them up for the weekend as I will be on the road between towns fri-sat-sun and having to get all my food on the move, which when you are vegan is basically bread and hummous...
I did Slimming World years and years ago and lost 4 stone over a year. I stuck to 5 syns though. I find South Beach is better for me now, I need something that stabilises my blood sugar. Once I start eating potato I can really eat a mountain!
The vegan stuff sounds like it makes it much harder, eggs and yoghurt make things much easier. I would be starving if I had your lunch! Did you not get hungry?
I usually have a bigger lunch but I had a lie in yeasterday (WOOHOO!) so got out of bed at 10, had a big breakfast. Then went to work on a late shift, people there eat dinner at 5 pm!!!!! I usually eat dinner at about 8pm, so ended up having a quick and easy lunch then early dinner. Was fed up of food by end of dinner, eating 3 meals in 6 hours is not good!
I don't think I could do a 5 syn day every week...would really struggle with it. I have only had one day under 5 syns in 4 weeks, and that was eating 3 cooked meals a day, think it was cooked breakfast, jacket potato and chilli, and veggie curry for dinner. was stuffed! And although on plan for SW, I am sure the calories consumed were well over 2000 with all the carbs.
Snacking is hard - as I cannae eat eggs, ham, meat etc. all the free things that are quick to just grab and go...I eat about 4-6 portions of fruit a day which is way too much but its all I can snack on at the min without using syns.
I am sure I'll figure it out though, i thought being vegan it would be dead easy but its like trying to crack the enigma code. No low fat versions of vegan stuff, a lot of it isn't listed so I'm having in input about half my foods on the syn calculator online which is taking ages. Plus I am really worried about this weekend, as I'm on the road all weekend and am gonna have to eat on the go...which is bloody hard for vegans as it is, and I don't know how im going to do it with SW.
Bad day today
B - 30g cereal, soy milk (HEXA + B)
L -baked potato, salad, bolognaise (3 syns)
D - 1 alpen light, loaddds of biscuits, 4 cups of tea with 1 sugar in (gawd knows how many syns!!!)
Then I got home at 10.30ish, and obviously was hungry and had half a bowl of chilli leftovers, with some sainsburys BGTY paprika and soy crisps (5 syns)...then some fruit and sorbet (5 syns)
Day of fail. But ho hum, it was a strange day yesterday - I was in quite a bad mood at home, then had some new work in the evening which was wicked but I didn't know how long I'd be there so thought I'd have dinner when I got home...but was out late so ended up eating tea and biscuits.
I am also feeling a bit 'meh' about it this week - I maintained last week and know that this weekend is going to be haaaarddd.
Better day today - I think I've figured out how to have a low syn day...have a big cooked breakfast late (brunch), then a quick and small lunch before early ish dinner...will only work if I'm on a late shift at work or a day off.
B - scrambled tofu and veg, half a tin of beans and 2 slices of nimble (hexb)
L - fruit salad. Packet of ryvita minis (hexb)
D - 3 sage and onion Linda macartney sausages, potato, lots of mixed veg and home made ragu sauce plus a tbsp ketchup (1 syn)
Supper is gonna be more fruit and a jelly pot (1/2 syn)
Pretty good day really - couldn't finish all the potato at dinner, my stomach must be shrinking!! Only 1 and a half syns today and I know it's bad I never have hexa, I haven't had a chance to get out and buy some choc oat milk which is pretty much the only one I like from the options. Plus I maintained last week and was curious if the 2-400ml a day of oat milk had anything to do with it :/
Feel much better about yesterday now too, have grabbed back some syns (I know it doesn't work that way but I've balanced yin with yang) weigh in tomorrow, have had a few rocky days this week but majority of good ones so curious to see how it goes...wish me luck! I'm going for a long walk in the morning and swimming before weigh in for some super body magic
ARGH weigh in in a few hours...lets see if I've done OK...I've eaten well today, no syns so far. fingers crossed for a loss, however small, else I'll be pulling my hair out
3 lb off...pretty chuffed considering I thought I hadn't done well. I have scraped it back the last few days though...phew!

NO SYNS TODAY! First day I've managed to do it...dead proud. Have figured out I need to have a cooked breakfast to have no syns, eat well and enjoy my food...Sugar first thing in the morning makes me hungry and sets me up for a bad day so I'm gonna give up on cereal i think.
Not a great day yesterday, but not as bad as i thought it would be...had a funny tummy and ended up nit eating an awful lot.

then started drinking, had 3 mini bottles of wine, then a can of 100plus, then 4 pints of cider, then cupof tea with sugar, a few cans of strongbow...then a mushroom and pepper wrap which was yummy!
sounds bad BUT I drank a hell of a lot less than usual.
Today I'm still on the road and having to eat on the go - and its awful! The options for vegan eating are atrocious. so I caved in and bought a pot of full fat caramelised onion hummous with 3 bread rolls...packet of crisps...some dark chocolate...did eat some fruit though! I'm amazed though as a few months ago the 3 bread rolls would have been devoured but i've only eaten half of one so far...and i feel really full! i think my stomach has shrunk a LOT. Will be drinking tonight and still need to get some dinner in me, plus eat on the move tomorrow but then Im home in the afternoon, back on plan and back to home made lovely food looking forward to it really!
I've had a bad week done around 90 hours at work plus nights, no time to shop/plan and been over on syns every night. Tonight topped it off; someone sneezed right into my dinner so had to bin it...stuck at work so couldn't get to shops. Thought I'd be ok but had to eat some snack a jacks and a few cereal bars just now to keep me going...
I feel like I need a kick up the proverbial anyone else having a rubbish week of it?
Eugh. Written this week off completley. I have a hard few weeks coming up too. But hey, cannae be helped, back on plan tomorrow Gonna draw up some meal plans when I'm back from work, and get on the body magic every day try and scrape back some of the weight i have no doubt put on again this week :/
