    Day 17 - Eliminate The Nagative

    Today was productive. I went & bought the Hypnotic Gastric Band - another McKenna book. I'm not giving up on ICMYT but I'll need to make allowances for the HGB. For instance, starting tomorrow & lasting -2 weeks, I've to go on a preparatory low fat/low sugar diet - just as if i was undergoing the physical surgery. I'm excited and nervous. I usually eat like a drunk stoner dog. This low fat & sugar thing is totally alien to me!! I'll be living on sugarfree jelly & Weight Watchers soups! I'm not sure if i can have fruit but hope i can!!

    Day 18 & Gastric Band Prep Day 1

    So I'm supposed to eat a low sugar low fat diet this week - which basically means no fast food. Also I have to walk 20 minutes each day - i can do that effortlessly 'cos I'm always busy. Ooh just remembered I've pre-cooked chilli & bolognaise in the freezer so yay! Cooking from scratch is gonna annoy me but i guess it has to be done... Sugarfree jelly & Philly & Ryvita will be my only friends this week!

    Weight at start of preparation diet:
    159.25lbs (11st 5.3lbs)
    40% fat

    Another gain? Really?! Ugh... This hypno-band better work fast or I'm gonna have to starve myself to death...

    WOW!!...I was glued to your diary but can I just say something... Give yourself some slack, step back and look at the full picture and stop being so hard on yourself maybe keep away from the scales for a while that way they won't have the strength to dictate your mood with what it shows on the dial, don't be your harshest critic xx

    Aw thanks! I thought I bored people to death. <-----oops there i go again being hard on myself! Its second nature to me. I need to stop though. I only got on the scales to keep a record of my weight before the preparation diet. I could be weighing myself weekly for the next two weeks but after that it'll be bi-weekly. Fingers crossed this thing works tho 'cause i'm so close to getting actual surgery!

    Low sugar (and low carbs) should really help. If you want tips (RawrGirl personally was gutted and desperate back when doing WW and barely losing anything despite 100% on plan and jogging 3 miles a day 5x a week), you can try the following. If you don't, ignore the rest of this post.

    Keep your net carbs (carbs minus fiber) to around 25-30 grams and your protein to around 80 grams. That will pretty much dictate your fat and calories (your calories would be around 1000-1200 a day unless you went wild on pure fat stuff like oil, butter, mayo or full fat salad dressings). Then, start lifting weights either 3x a week total body, or 6x a week alternating with upper body one day and lower body the next. Don't worry about cardio at this point, unless it's just walking or something light that doesn't require alot of oxygen (you don't want to be panting).

    This may sound like the opposite of what you've heard, but if you are keep your carbs low, you don't want to do aerobic exercise as that requires carbs. And if your body doesn't have carbs, and you do aerobic exercise, it will break down muscle to convert to carbs (less muscle = lower metabolism). Also, I'm sure you've heard anything below 1200 will also lower your metabolism, due to the dreaded "starvation mode", but if you lift weights (as heavy as you can with correct form for 12 reps, break for a minute, then repeat 2 more times), you won't lose muscle due to eating less, because you are building it right back up again. In other words, let's say eating 1000 calories forces your body to lose .25 lb of muscle a week but you lifted weights all week and built .25 of muscle. Therefore, you're body didn't lose any muscle and your metabolism stayed the same. (This is why it's important to make sure you get 80 grams of protein a day, to feed the muscle.) But since you are still eating less than your body requires, it has to pull that energy from somewhere...it's not pulling it from muscle because you're not doing cardio; it's not pulling from carbs, because you aren't eating enough carbs to create energy (just the very low amount needed for proper brain function -- about 25 grams); thus, all your body's energy to function, digest, walk from house to car, wash dishes, etc. is pulling straight from your fat stores. You are basically living off your fat (called Ketosis) even when you're sleeping. (When you first drop your carbs, it takes about 3-4 days to get into Ketosis.)

    That is what RawrGirl does, and for the first time in 14 years of dieting, she finally got back into her size 8 jeans (after being a 12-14, every now and then a 10), and is now at her lowest adult weight (129, previously lowest was 138) and a never seen before size 6. No other plan ever worked for her...14 years of struggling, losing very little, giving up discouraged, gaining weight...and then she found the above plan (based on a medical study), and dropped over 25 pounds in only 4 months.

    So, it's just a thought, in case you wanted to give it a go since you are trying low-sugar anyway.

    Thanks for the info RawrGirl! if the Gastric Band doesn't work i might give that a go. Right now, i really can't handle all this restriction. I'm only on my second day and its torture!! I don't think I'll last the week. Restricting causes me to want to binge! I'm fighting hard to stick to this but I'm weak!! I'm confused about the whole preparation week. I've read that by low sugar, low fat, he basically means no fast food. Do ready meals count as fast food?! Gahhh - i'm so confused and feel crappy today!

    I have loved reading your diary! Like you I binge eat and that is why I have chosen to start pm again tomoz. When I follow diets I get really obsessive and end up in the all or nothing cycle. With pm I love the freedom it gives you (I just need to follow the bloody rules!!!!)

    Oh i know!! I hate constantly having to turn down food "cause i'm on a diet" (which is a polite way of saying "ARGH!!! I really want it and if you keep waving it in my face i'll eat you AND the food"..). The first week of gastric band is hard because of the prep diet- but its worth it apparently! Are you doing I Can Make You Thin? following the rules is my big problem too... :-/

    Day 19 & Gastric Band Prep Update

    Okay so today was a total write-off. Ate so much cardboardy stuff i felt nauseous (and NOT full)! Then realised i need a more strict pre-op diet than i was doing so gave up and got a takeaway. Broke ALL the rules! I then turned to a good friend of mine who showed me an easy to follow pre-op plan. Thanks Google! I pre-planned my prep week which will start Saturday (or Sunday depending when we can get a lift to Aldi). I will warn anyone planning to do this: The prep weeks boring as hell!! Worth it though....i hope. I'm craving peaches right now which means i'm either pregnant or just willing to eat anything in my deprived state. Anyway I'm dead excited about this and next week can't come fast enough!!!

    I just found out the pre-op thing doesn't have to be strict! He said to just have an easy week before doing the band and just avoid sugar & junk food. THANK GOD!! Oh i love i can make you thin. Really works if you follow the rules properly. I think the reasons i put on weight could be that i didn't follow them 100%. I eat my dinner alone in the kitchen now. Though i've been put on new medication and have hypothyroidism, so could be why i'm gaining!

    Day 20

    I just had a horrible experience. I had a few chocolate fingers left and sat down to eat them consciously. I left part of one as instructed in ICMYT. It was hell. It was giving me a sorrowful look and crying "Why won't you eat me?". Felt horrible throwing it in the bin but i had to! I feel so strong but i still want more chocolate. I'm a pig!

    Also, today was another write-off... I think my animal brain knows i'm going to be dieting tomorrow and went into famine storage mode. Okay so i set my "procedure" date to Tuesday 12th Feb (or Saturday the 9th if i can't wait). Now to go have my last Snack bar... :-(

    Lost myself a bit of weight. I don't know what happened. It must have been all that rushing to the bathroom. Either way - yay, no gain!! I weighed myself today as i have OFFICIALLY started my prep week! I'll put up exactly what i eat each day to keep myself sane.

    Only on day 2 and already hating this prep week. Maybe I'm being too strict with myself. I mean, I'm following an actual Gastric Band pre-op diet... I don't want to give up though, 'cause i'm hard to hypnotize and I can't afford to fail... And i need to practice the Havening technique!


    EDIT:
    Gave up on the pre-op thing and just listened to the installation. Hope i see affects soon! Was awake the whole time!
