My 85lb mission!

Ok so here I find my myself after hundreds of dieting attempts, heavier than I've ever been and having to start again!

I'm 26 and have always been heavy but have never really seen myself as huge although I don't know how much of that is down to being in denial. I'm 5'10 and I think my height has always helped me carry the pounds well but with each new diet, my starting weight had creeped up and up and I'm starting over this time at 235lbs or 16st11lb.

Last year I weighed about 220lbs and I started a low carb diet. After a few weeks of hard adjustment I really got into the swing of it, started the gym once I reached 200 and by the summertime I'd lost about 4 stone. The most successful diet I've ever done and my BMI was borderline normal! I fell pregnant in the September and all good will went out the window along with exercise and I now have a 6 month old little girl and have gained everything back...and then some.

Anyway, I started over last Wednesday! I decided to give Slimfast a go. I have a really sweet tooth and struggle with portion control so I thought the shakes would help me kill two birds with one stone. Found week 1 really easy to stick to. Loving that I can snack three times a day so I'm eating very couple of hours which stops me from getting too hungry between meals. It also helps that I find the shakes really yummy too.

One of the things I've struggled with in the past is meeting up in town with my nan and my auntie for lunch every Tuesday. And our cheeky Tuesdays are notoriously unhealthy. I've decided those days to have my 600cal meal for lunch and then just a shake for dinner. So I had a tuna baguette and salad this week which was 580cal, and I really enjoyed it! Totes looking forward to another one this week!

Should also mention that I'm a serial weigher aswell. Can't resist a daily sneak peek. I know people will say it's not good to weigh daily but it really holds me accountable. Other than my time of the month, I don't really see a lot of fluctuation (unless I've had a bad day or a lot of salt). But most days I see a loss of even a 1/4 pound and that is enough to spur me on even further.

So...
Wednesday past was my first weigh in and I was soooo chuffed to weigh in at 16st5lb, a loss of 6lbs. Mostly water I assume but weight on the scale all the same. Being a serial dieter, I know week 1 is usually great and week 2 is usually a bit more difficult but I've been pleasantly surprised on the scale so far this week and am down another 3lbs. I've basically lost 9lbs in 9 days... Did I mention I love slimfast!
Not going to let this lead to complacency, I know it will slow down. Especially over Xmas!
I think I'll eat whatever I want on Xmas day. Then Boxing Day, I'll do shakes half the day and have whatever I like for dinner before completely resuming to Slimfast on the 27th.

I went to the doctor on Monday enquiring about Orlistat. I have so much to lose this time and can't get to the gym with having the baby so I was finding it all a bit daunting. I need to get my thyroid checked at the end of the month and if it comes back fine and I can lose a bit of weight myself by then, they'll consider prescribing it for me so fingers crossed!

Haven't made the best choices today! Started the day off well with my shake at 9 then a snack at 11. Decided to do my Xmas food shop and get it out the way but was in the supermarket so long that I accidentally skipped lunch & didn't get shake number two until 2.30pm. By which time I was starving and followed it with a packet of quavers, two jaffa cakes and some grapes. And then I was viewing a house at 5pm and didn't get home til much later than expected. Made quesadillas for dinner. I would usually just have the filling and maybe one wrap but again, because I left it so late to cook, I was too hungry to resist and had two instead. I followed that with half the baby's rice pudding that she didn't finish!!! So not a good day!! Not a total write off, but not good! Sent from my iPhone using MiniMins

Do you think you'd be better on a food diet like last time rather than slim fast? I know its only circumstances that have caused today's problems but if you end up having food plus a shake it kinda defeats the object whereas you've successfully dieter before!

I'm a yo-yo er to so I sympathise and can understand why you want a nice loss to get you on your way... I started on a slim shake diet but abandoned it for low cal after a few weeks. Good luck and well done on your loss so far xx

Absolutely! Not seeing Slimfast as a long term thing, just a nice little kick up the bum to get me into the swing of things. I really struggle to start off on low cal. Last time, I did Low Carb first for months and by the time I went back to low cal, I'd been restricted for so long that even fruit was a novelty, let alone all the low fat cakes, etc.
I tried low carb again a couple of months ago but with having the baby, I don't have the time to prep and cook everything, there's not a lot of raw food you can eat :(
Hopefully by the time I move from slimfast back to the norm, I'll be happy with all the food choices I have, I guess it's my way of food detoxing! Lol xx

Hi Rawrrr, just replied to your thread asking about meal ideas and found your blog so thought I would say hi. I'm currently taking Orlistat and I have to say for me it has been the best thing ever. Was completely at the end of trying everything by myself- including being referred to a food for thought group ran by my local hospital where we looked at how and why we all get bigger after each dieting attempt that fails. It made me realise that I was going to have to change how I viewed food and change my whole lifestyle if I wanted to lose the weight. When I went to see the docs and got given Orlistat I actually hadn't gone to see them about getting the pills. I had gone to see about bariatric surgery referral and the only criteria I hadn't covered was to take Orlistat. In the 6 weeks I have been taking it I have lost 29lbs and have to say I really enjoying losing weight. Hope your Christmas and New year has been lovely and look forward to seeing how you get on

Figment x

Thanks Figment, I kinda put the idea out of my head because my doctor A) didn't sound entirely happy about prescribing it and B) wanted me to have a blood test first and there were no appointments for weeks. The day my appointment did come round, my OH went away to work with my 6 month olds pram in his car and I had to cancel. I'll definitely reschedule it though, I'm glad it's working for you. So far I'm getting on well without it but it's very daunting to think of the long term and that's kinda where I think I'll need the extra help :)

Update

December 11th - 16st, 11.75lbs
January 18th - 16st, 3.25lbs

Overall not bad for the festive period I must say ;)
