Laura's Diary

Hi - I have just posted in the introductions section so will just copy that brief intro here.

I'm Laura...I used to be a member of this site about 2 to 3 years ago (Lozbo) but my life took a difficult turn and my weight stopped being as much of a focus for me as it should have been.
I'm 29 and have struggled with my weight since I was about 13 and was diagnosed with PCOS at 15. This makes it more difficult to lose weight but it is not the only reason for my weight troubles.
I lost a bit of weight a few years ago and then sadly my husband became ill and passed away. During this time I really turned to food for comfort and found it hard to find the motivation to eat well or exercise. Recently I have realised that I haven't been looking after myself very well and that it needed to change and I wanted to start to enjoy my life again for myself.
I not long ago started a new relationship with someone who is very supportive and has helped me to feel that I am finally in a good place to start my weight loss journey again.
I am going to be starting with just eating healthy and exercising. I have a friend who has given me the ww points books etc so I may try this from home at some point too.
I remembered how supportive it was here last time so thought I would join again.
I will update this diary daily and, as of tomorrow, I will include a food diary.
I know I have a long way to go but I'm feeling positive about making some real changes to my lifestyle.

Thank you for reading and good luck on all of your weight loss journeys xx

Today has been the first day that I've felt really positive and motivated
I have decided to try ww again as it worked for me years ago. But I can always try something different if I find that it isn't working for me this time.
So I'm going to start a food diary in the ww section too.
Hope everyone has had a lovely day!

Hi Tangerine12,
I'm glad you liked reading my lil intro. I'm good thanks. You?
And thank you for your nice words :) x

Today had started as another good day...I still feel very positive. I am working from home today which worries me slightly as rather than taking lunch to work I have full access to my cupboards and fridge all day! My partner is one of those people who can eat and eat and not seem to put on any weight. He even went to see a nutritionalist who told him that he needs to have a big calorie intake to put on any weight...so he has full permission to eat a lot! He tries to eat well but he does love chocolate and crisps etc and if I could get away with eating it I would so I can't blame him for eating away. He is very good and takes a lot to work to eat there so when he gets home he doesn't snack too much in front of me...but it still means there's so much bad food in the house so I will need strong willpower from now on....but I can do this :)

Hi Laura, I also have PCOS so I know how difficult it is to lose weight. I found a low GI diet helps. I start a VLCD on monday. Good luck on your weight loss journey.

Uch laura don't u just hate people that eat loads and dont put on any weight. My OH doesnt like crisps or chocolate or fizzy juice so its easy for him. If ur keeping busy at home u may not even think about whats in ur cupboards.
so what did u have for breakfast and lunch?? I dont think you wanna know what I had for mine lol!

Hi fitforafb.
PCOS can definitely make it more difficult to lose weight! If my ww doesn't work I might try a VLCD. Good luck with yours!

Yes I do...I have to stop myself from giving him a bad look when he does sit there and eat lots and remind myself I would if I could haha!
I wish I didn't like those things!
Luckily work has been busy so I haven't thought about food too much.
For breakfast I had an apple, a banana and 2 rich tea biscuits. For lunch I treated myself to 20g Low fat cheese (my biggest weakness) and warburtons brown sandwich thins.
What did you have? :)

Ha do u really want to know. I dont really pay attention to breakfast lunch dinner. Just eat at all times of the day really that it just all rolls into one. So today I have had: activia yogurt with granola. 2 giant caramel logs a double milky way lentil soup and a buttered roll a square of tablet and half a tub of lindt chocolates lol! I can feel myself starting to get fat. Like I know ai have a bump but I can see it round my thighs :(

But good for u staying on track whilst working at home and not giving into temptation. Well done!

I am so jealous of the milky way. I love those. If I want a treat I have a funsize one but they're so more - ish!
It's hard but I guess the best thing to do is try not to worry too much about weight whilst pregnant as long as eating in moderation...you don't want to stress yourself out too much whilst pregnant.
I have just sat down for the evening to relax :) so glad it's the weekend!

My first weigh-in this morning and........lost 3 lbs! :) I'm very happy with that!

Having my parents round for dinner this evening which I'm really looking forward to.

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend x

Well done Laura! Great start x

Thank you both!
Now that I've had my first loss I feel even more motivated.
I gave other half a 1.25kg pack of flour and told him that was how much less weight I'm carrying around :) I find it helps to do that.

Spent most of today cleaning the house as parents round for dinner later. I'm making a turkey lasagne in a very low point bbq sauce...although the whole thing will still be pointy but I can use some weekly points.
Will be going straight to bed after they leave as up at 5am tomorrow for work.

Hi Laura, great inspiration and thanks for sharing your story. Good work on the progress so far and I look forward to hearing your progress. As one who has put a healthy lifestyle on the back burner for the last few years I have started on a journey to get back to my physical best.

I have started with getting my mind and thoughts into a positive paradigm and working on this daily as a priority.

Some strategies I have been using are: focusing on a positive nutrition balance by incorporating foods such as kale, lean meats, almonds, berries, hot peppers into my daily eating plans. Having these in smaller more frequent meals has help accelerate the metabolism boosting effect.

Success so far has allowed me to lose 3kg (approx 6 pounds) so far since mid Jan but also feeling fantastic through an active healthy lifestyle.

Thank you for popping by and leaving a comment.
It sounds cliché but I've found that positive-thinking plays such an important part in my healthy eating. I've also come to see how exercise really helps me to feel good!
Thank you nutrition balance tip. I try to eat a lot of spinach and am going to replace it with kale half the time now. I rarely eat red meat so I only tend to have chicken or turkey which I've heard is good. And im starting to add a small amount of nuts to my salads etc.
Well done on your weight loss so far! More importantly it's good that you're feeling fantastic :)

Thank you :) xx

So today has been a challenge but I feel proud that I managed to stay on track.
I had an appointment with a consultant at the hospital where my husband was treated. It's been almost 2 years but I recently decided I needed to find some answers to some lingering questions that I had about their lack of communication with me and his family whilst he was in their care (although I cannot fault their treatment of him which is what was most important!)
But finally today they acknowledged that there had been a substantial lack of communication and I got some answers...and although hard to hear they have given me some kind of peace of mind.
So an emotional day but I am still feeling positive about changing my lifestyle :) and I have always said that I need to live my life to the fullest and not take things for granted because there are people (like my husband) for whom life has been cut too short. This does help me to keep positive :)

I hope everyone has had a good weekend and a nice Monday x
