    Does anyone know

Does anyone know if I could get a referral for a nice gym (ie one that specialises in dealing with obesity and weightloss) through my drs? I know it depends on my area- I'm in camberley but I've got no idea where to start and can't really afford gym membership and do not over want to go and get screamed at a few times a week by a psycho personal trainer because ill never go back......

    Anyone got any suggestions? X

I have never heard of a gp referring someone to a gym? We live in different areas so its likely local budgets etc are different but I would never have thought they would??

How about increasing exercise first each day doing some weights, walking etc ??

It's common in Devon, and other areas but not sure about mine! People get referred for ww and massages and acupuncture and all sorts. Don't have weights. I walk a lot but don't really get any results with it. Love the rowing machine and treadmill but have no money and no space. No money means no classes either! X

Wow that is really good! I am from london so may be diff? Or maybe i am just oblivious lol.

You could use water bottles, tins of beans? Anything really.. Maybe up and down stairs could be a good cardio workout mixed with weights and walking?

I say all this but i do absolutely no exercise other than walking atm.. I am trying to focus on nailing dieting first of all x

I thought I had the dieting nailed- weightloss during last week was really promising. Get on the scales on weighin night and what should have been a 3lb loss was only 1!! I don't know what's going on!! I have spent all night thinking about food and eating! Nightmare!!!!!! I haven't eaten though..... So maybe that's progress. Though the scales say I'm 2lb up tonight! Maybe I'm just a little obsessed!!!!! Xx

1lb js still a loss and every loss counts towards the bigger picture and target. I am obsessed with weighing but i have now resorted to keeping the scales in the car until fri morning when il weigh. I found that when i did weigh before wi and saw no loss this led to a binge and me thinking 'f*ck it ive gained anyway' when realistically it could be time of day, water weight etc.

Hide your scales and not giving into food like before is showing a shift in your thinking x

^What they all said, and I have no idea about drs prescribing gym membership, if there's other things being precribed in your area it's possibly worth an ask though? Alternatively, if you can go to a council run gym off peak thn membership is pretty cheap (it is at ours anyway) but obviously that still costs money! :-)

Im from devon. My doctor reffered me to a exercise class with other obese people for a cost of £29 per month. Then nhs would pau some and I paid the shortfall.

I then explained the gym I used to go to was only 25 a month and the reason I stopped was because our income dropped to a total of £890 a month and that i couldnt afford it (due to my rent and council tax costing £535 a month and that after £10 - £15 a week in electricity that after food and dog food there is not other money) which is why i had come to the doctors for help.

There are lots of great low cost gyms out there. They just take a bit of finding.

I have always been of the opinion that I am surrounded by a 'gym' in pavements, and that one of the best forms of exercise is walking. I simply get on a comfy pair of trainers and get out on the pavement and walk a few brisk miles...always does the trick for me and is often better than machines in a gym for what we need to achieve (which is speeding the metabolic rate rather than building muscle)...

I do a lot of walking, just figured I might try something different. I'm new to my area so don't really know my way around and as a teacher it's normally nearly dark when I get home and I am a wussy girl!! Be easier when the light levels pick up!
