Measurements and dress sizes - do yours match up?

    Just a quickie...

I have decided to set my diet goal by my measurements as opposed to my weight, and because of that I've been looking today at what measurements make what size.

What I want to know, is do your measurements match up with what size clothes you wear?

(I do hope I'm making sense, lol).

Measurements as per the Additions Direct website are as follows...

    Size 8 - 32-24-34 (Oh I wish, lol)
    Size 10 - 34-26-36
    Size 12 - 36-28-38
    Size 14 - 38-30-40
    Size 16 - 40-32-42
    Size 18 - 42.5-35-44.5
    Size 20 - 44.5-37-46.5
    Size 22 - 47-40-49
    Size 24 - 49-42-51
    Size 26 - 51-44-53
    Size 28 - 53-46-55
    Size 30 - 55-48-57
    Size 32 - 59-50-59

I would be really interested to know if this works out about right, so anyone who knows their measurements....?? And anyone who doesn't know their measurements - go fetch that measuring tape, hahaha

Its all dutch to me lol

I have a 27.5" (on a good day!) waist and can wear 10 stretch jeans, but 12 rigid ones and 12 mainly for combats and trousers. I always buy 12 skirts, but they are a bit big on the waist but fit perfectly everywhere else.

I have a 36DD bust, but can wear size 10 t shirts! But I usually buy 12, but need a 14 jacket mostly

    Hi Marie

They do roughly, but not quite.....

I am 36" - 27.5" - 35.5", I am a 12 on top which tallies and a 10 on bottom which according to the charts should be a tight fit but in reality 10's are a comfy fit on me. I find dresses a nightmare as if they fit round my boobs they are baggy on the hips and waist!

Hmm, so you're about right for the trousers then (27.5" being between and 10 and a 12).

I won't comment on the bust, mainly because I'm jealous - I prefer to think that everyone has little boobies like me, it makes me feel better

Firstly Georgie - wow! Look at those pics!...that is just amazing!!

Secondly - I'm quite pleased you said that 10 are a comfy fit when they should be a snug, because that means I might get into a 12 a bit quicker, heehee!

This is interested - can't wait to see some other replies (I'm just nosey really )

Thanks Marie. I find it fascinating and frustrating, depending on where you shop the sizes vary soo much it is hard to know what size to take into the changing room. I have a cupboard that amongst other things consists of baggy size 8s and perfect fitting 10s, madness!

Got it sorted now, buy my bottoms from Next, skirts from Per Una and tops from either. Only probs are with jackets, some 12s fits from both and some 14s swamps me from both, bit of trial and error!

they dont seem to match for me at all!! i used a builders measuring tape tho, one of the stiff ones, not a fabric one, would that make a difference?
according to above measurements, i would be 14 top and 16 bottom, but my 12s are a bit loose on bottom and 12s fit nicely on top!!

I expect a stiff measuring tape added a bit - so maybe not very accurate. If you're in a 12, then that says it all (you lucky minx! Ha ha).

Well, I measured this morning....oh my lord....my thigh measures the same as a size 10 waist

Think I need to get dieting/exercising!

As for the other measurements, they make me around a 16 (ish) which is about right at the moment. I do have one question though...when measuring hips, where do you measure?! Across the hip bones, or lower down?? I'm confused about that one, because I always consider my hips to be the bottom end of my hip bones, but I'm not 100% sure if that's right, because from my hip bones down to nearer the top of my bottom I go up by 3.5"

Crikey, maybe measuring wasn't such a good idea, I'm depressed now, lol.

Be nice to see those inches start to drop though
