1st time considering WW

Hello,

Well I'm a newbie to MM and I have 3 stone to lose. I'm thinking about trying WW and am just looking for a bit of help/advice. I'm considering signing up to the online support (which I believe is £11.95 a month)...I don't really have the time to go to an actual class and couldn't afford it either.

I feel a bit daunted at the thought of having to work out the WW points system from scratch...will I still be able to make meals from my ordinary recipe books? Is there a way of working out how many points would be in it? Does every food have a points value?

I'm not sure if it's silly to sign up at this time of year as I know I'll want to pig out a little over Xmas...but the thought of piling on another stone over the festive period makes me feel depressed so I was thinking I'd sign up now and hopefully not lose control of my eating over the festive period.

I'd love to get some advice from anyone already following the plan, thanks!

Hello and welcome

I've done WW three times and lost between 1.5 stone and 3.5 stone. The plan does work if you're committed to it.

Personally I'd go to at least one class to pick up all the literature as I find it easier to use the plan from books then online; however I others I know say the complete opposite so online support is a personal choice.

There are calculators online and apps you can use for pro points but I'm guessing as you will be getting the online support the calculator will come with it.

Counting points isn't hard but does need commitment and Id say tracking is a must.

You can still use you're recipes but the first time it will take a little while to work out all the points but if you're savy make sure you note it down and it will always be there. I did this yesterday when I made homemade mince pies.

I don't think you're being silly starting before Xmas. I think it's a cracking idea. I got back onto the WW wagon last week and already lost 2lbs and nearly 4 inches.

I agree with Cheeky, see if you can get to just one meeting to get the "stuff" and a heads up on whats what. Could someone maybe treat you as a Xmas present to a monthly pass and cancel it after the month... maybe. It has been the only plan that works for me I got to say. Ok pp's may take a little figuring out but when you get into it it fits in so well with everything. nothing is off limits AND you learn portion control. Hope you manage to egt stuck in before Xmas , as you say damage limitation really.

I thinks its a great idea starting now otherwise you might go really mad at xmas where if you are doing this more than likely we will still do bad but not as bad ifywim :)

Majority of foods have propoints, most fruits and veg have zero (some have points eg peas, sweetcorn, avacado etc) you work out the propoints of each food by using protein, carbs, fat and fiber on nutritional labels. I have an app on my phone that i inputting the data and it give me propoints for the amount i need, you can get a calcular or use calcular on line to do the same job. You get a set propoints limit you use each day that you have to use then you get 49 propoints to use however you wish throughout the week or you dont have to use them at all if you dont want to.

It will take a bit of time in the beginning as you will have to be calculating every food you eat to get the propoint but you will get used to them and will get to know your regular foods without calculating them. Most important thing is write down everything you eat and point it.

If you exercise you can earn activity points, you can use these activity points for food too if you wish, some people dont eat them.

Good luck with it if you decided to go ahead with ww, i love this plan and it really works if you track and stick to your points.

If you have any more questions or need any other information just ask on here we are more than happy to help x

With the app it's really easy. And the recipe builder u probably have online is awesome for cook books! I've done WW before but only just found it this time around! U just type in the ingredients and it works it all out! X

8Hi. I started WW online just over a week ago and have 3 stone to lose as well. I have found the app to be fantastic... better than flicking through a book and I like it doesn't announce to the office I'm on a diet!!!

Online has a recipe builder so you can just stick all yout ingredients there and then it works it all out for you!!!

With the WW app and MM app I have all my diet tools on me everywhere I go!!!

Good luck with your weight loss!!! Oh if you look at the cash back websites you should find some WW deals... I've got my first months fee coming back to me in Jan!!!

Also just to say about starting now... the way I see it is if I watch what I'm doing now then the odd pig out at Christmas won't hurt too much!!! Whereas if I just leave it till Jan I might be looking at losing 4 stone rather than 3!!!

Hi,

Thank-you everyone for all the positive comments and advice :)

I joined a gym 2 weeks ago and found that has really made me want to look and feel good about myself. I can't do a lot at the gym as I have a knee injury and am waiting to see if I need surgery, but I aim to do at least 20 mins in the pool 2-3 times a week.

I'm going to spend some time looking on the computer at WW this afternoon and think I'm going to give it a go :)

I think its worth a shot flower, after all whatever you choose to do you have to start it at some point and now is a good a time as any. Made bad choice today went out shopping... omFg! However cos I am trying to be good no mince pies or other "baddies" diverted me! Now if I wasn't doing this, well who knows where one lowly not so little mince pie could have led??

I've been having a look on the WW website and am considering going to a class next week (the thought of going terrifies me!!). It looks like the monthly pass thing is about £16.95. I thought maybe a class would be helpful just to get some info on how the plan works, tell me how many points I can have etc etc and just provide me with a starting point. Do you get many booklets/info to take away when you go to a class?

The thought of going on my own fills me with dread, but I want this to work so much!

I'm pretty sure they give you a first month discount for the monthly pass as I looked it up a few weeks ago and it was round about £21.

It really depends on how you plan on tracking. If your doing it on your phone or tablet then the app is perfect for it. I have the books from a previously joining but they are just taking up room in my cupboard as the app has everything I need.

If you have never been before and can easily attend meetings then they can be great if you have a good leader. It would be good for you to attend as the leader can take you through the plan!!!

Maybe go once and if you like it get the monthly pass if you don't but like the plan just do it online. Don't stress about going... everyone is there for the same reason. You will find there will be people with more to lose than you and maybe some folk maintaining which could help motivate and inspire you.

Looking at their website I'm a bit confused by all the options there are for ways to join. I don't really have the time to go to a class every week, but I think I'd benefit from having someone explain the plan to me to help me get started. Can anyone advise me, I'm getting in a bit of a muddle!!

Aww honey i feel for you! I'd say get yourself to a class where a leader can explain the plan and the monthly pass option.

I've looked in the magazine and there's no offer for joining so personally if you can I'd say hold off joining a class until after xmas where there are deals and get an app to tide you over. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say the app I use as it's not an WW endorsed so but if you pm me I'll give you the app name.

If you have any questions I'm sure everyone here will help you

The app will calculate your points and does have tracker facilities and database.

Then when Christmas is done jump on the new year discounts

Personally I'd do it and I know there is a pass deal coming out after Xmas

Hope that helps

Thanks for the advice...I don't think I can PM you as I haven't made enough posts yet.

I'm really not sure what to do at the moment...I feel like I've been messing about with my weight for so long and I really just need to get on and do something about it as I'm sick of feeling so down about the way I look.

Really not sure what to do for the best just now...I didn't want to wait until the New Year, but I can't afford to spend much money on classes or a monthly pass as I've already treated myself to gym membership.

A number of folk use an app called value diary. It's £2.50 or so via play store or itunes.

I think I need the motivation of spending cash to keep me on track but loads of people swear by it!!!

Get that and head to one meeting to get the plan explained. If your still unsure you will have plenty of folk on here able to help you. Or as I suggested before join online via a cashback website and you will get your first month back just about.

Hiya i tried to send you a message but it didn't work.

I hope I don't get shot  if you search under U.Value diary you should find the dairy app. There's a little cost no more than 2pound

The app will give you everything you need to get you started and the when Xmas is over you can join the class and get the joining fee free

I've always gone to class, got the books and done it at home
