In phase 1 of south beach people tend to loose on ave 8+ lbs phase 1 is just 2 weeks

Agatston divides the South Beach Diet into three phases, each progressively becoming more liberal. "Phase 1" lasts for the first two weeks of the diet. It eliminates all sugars, processed carbohydrates, fruits, and some higher-glycemic vegetables as well. Its purpose is to eliminate the hunger cycle and is expected to result in significant weight loss. "Phase 2" continues as long as the dieter wishes to lose weight. It re-introduces most fruits and vegetables and some whole grains as well. "Phase 3" is the maintenance phase and lasts for life. There is no specific list of permitted and prohibited foods. Instead, the dieter is expected to understand the basic principles of the diet and live by the principles.

Normally when driving I often tend to feel sleepy when driving long distances and this time not once did I feel sleepy.. So I recon it must have a lot to do with the high GI snacks I would have normally eaten.. Like rice cakes, bananas, choc bars etc.. Snacked on almonds and dried apricots ( yogurts don't tend to travel well and are hard to eat while driving lol) Amazingly I think not eating all the normal carbs, has made the normal tiredness I get in the morning and afternoon disappear, I often can't keep my eyes open and just drop off if I'm sitting down. Wow!

It's funny if I had driven this far a few weeks ago I would have been so very tired! At the mo don't feel that way at all.. Really think high GI carbs/foods make me feel tired... I have more energy in last week than last mth.. Weird!

Hope you don't mind I staked out your diary, since we seem to both crop up in kettlebell and low GI forum and you said you're doing south beach too. You seem to be doing really well! Are you in phase 2 yet?

Good for you, you've got a plan in place for when you return. I would have found phase 1 incredibly hard if I'd been travelling, let alone visiting an indulgent Grandma!

Am home now.. Kids were not hungry just wanted to go home to see their Daddy!! Had the last of my "treat" food and back on phase 1 as of now..

Felt the sleepiness creeping in after about 40 mins, was not as bad so had my almonds, and diet coke and it went away.. It came back about 40 mins later more almonds and diet coke.. We didn't stop so drove for 2 hours 30 mins..
