Orlistat and Slimmingworld

Hello! I'm new :p
Started slimming world on Wednesday and taking Orlistat after doc prescribed them on Thursday afternoon. I'm not expecting the pills to do much because slimming world is a low-fat diet anyway, but taking them has already worked well as a deterrent - not one crisp, chocolate or piece of cake has passed my lips since Tuesday! Very proud of myself so far :D No nasty side effects yet either so I must be doing something right.
Out of interest, how many lbs on average do people lose a week with Orlistat if following the diet sensibly?
I'll let you know how weigh in goes on Wednesday :D

How do people cope with eggs on Orlistat? Free on slimming world but they are very fatty, so not sure if they're worth the gamble!

Hi Lux,

I'm doing Slimming world too. I did a lot of yo-yoing for the past 5 months. Was getting very fed up but it was all my own fault as I wasn't really following the plan!
So today I weighed in at 14. 4lbs and started my first tablet with Xenical!!

I'm gonna try eggs for breakfast tomoro as I normally have 2 eggs most days for breakfast, or else fruit and nuts but am gonna leave out the nuts cos I know they've got a really high fat content!
Will let you know how my week goes!

Hi gingernut, that's great! Have a great first week :) I was 14.4 when I started 2 weeks ago, I lost 3lb in my first week :) 2nd weigh in tomorrow ?

Good luck with the weigh in, hope you reach your next mini goal!!
Have you had any side effects of Orlistat at all yet? I've just taken my second tablet and am very windy...

I've not had any bad side effects really, been on them nearly 2 weeks. Because slimming world is a low fat diet anyway, I find the tablets just act as a deterrent - I can't have cheese, cake, chocolate or crisps etc or else I'll suffer the consequences!
Apparently it's normal to have some side effects a few days in because the Orlistat also works on the fat already in your system. All I can recommend is avoid the foods listed above, and even small quantities of things like butter, mayo hidden in sandwiches could have an effect so I jut last try to make everything myself now. Hope they work well for you :)

Hi Lux,

Did you try the eggs? I've had eggs maybe 5 mornings and no effects at all. Thank goodness because they are a staple in this house!!!

No I didn't - I'm too scared! After my horrible 'tango experience' I told you about, I just don't want to risk anything. It was so horrendous!

Oh you poor thing. I couldn't survive without them. Though some mornings I like porridge with skimmed milk, fruit and a dash of cinnamon. Might try to have that more often because I hear eggs are bad for cholesterol.

Great thanks for that. Very informative. I'll keep eating them so

Hi
hope you don't mind me joining this thread, I am going to be re-joining slimming world this week and hopefully I am going to get the doctor to prescribe me xenical.

I love slimming world as I am crap at counting calories and keeping track, however I am concerned how xenical works with it and how much I will have to adapt, I followed the green plan most last time(with a few red chucked it) found the extra easy too east to cheat and needless to say did not loose much!

So how do you follow you plan and keep an eye on the fat content?

Thanks

Hi Serenade, welcome :) I usually post more in my slimming world diary than on here. Hope this week goes well for you :D
Following slimming world with orlistat is very easy - nearly all the free foods are low fat anyway so for in with the under 5% rule (with a few exceptions such as some meat - bacon springs to mind straight away), and when it comes to choosing syn foods, try to stay away from cheese, cake, chocolate, crisps etc. I spend my syns on marshmallows or sweets like cola bottles or fizzy laces, because they're less than 5% fat x

Thanks for the reply
not quite sure which forum to use, both seem quiet on the slimming world /orlistat front - I will try and find your diary.
I am glad you replied as beginning to have doubts about asking the GP thinking it would too complicated trying to work out the fat content at least with Slimming world it is already worked out for you.
silly question but how did you work out which foods were o.k on the fat rule? apart from cheese, choc etc - I have seen salmon is o.k on SW but not to eat on Orlistat -sounds really complicated trying to combine both :(

I'll reply properly later when on laptop, but just saw your message now - the orlistat fat rule... Any food which is less than 5% fat (5g of fat per 100g) is fine, don't eat anything above. You should also limit fat to 15g per meal, but I find that too complicated to work out - and the way I see it is that by following slimming world I will never eat 15g of fat in one meal anyway.

Also, my mindset is to follow slimming world first, then check fat content (Not check fat content first before deciding if it's ok on slimming world). Hope that makes sense.

Ya I agree with Lux if you are following the slimming world plan your meals will most likely be under 15g anyways. You just have to check the labels to make sure individual items are no more than 5g. Be careful with treats like chocolate and crisps because they have a high fat content.
Some of the slimming world bars have 5g or less in them so if you're craving a treat they might satisfy you. Like Luz I like to have jellies like haribo for my treats or a options hot chocolate with two marshmallows on top. The hot choc has 6g but thankfully it doesn't seem to affect me. Plus it's only 4 syns!!

Hi Lux, how was your weigh in? I didn't go to slimming world yesterday and no other class within on hours drive.

It was ok thanks, 1lb off and got 1/2 stone award ;) just a reminder that I need to up my game - I can guarantee if it weren't for orlistat it would have definitely been a STS, so need to put more effort in. No reason why I shouldn't be loosing 2lb a week.
I don't blame you for not going to SW, is it Monday you WI? If so hope the rest of the week goes well for you x

Thanks for all the advice, GP did prescribe so I am over the moon and also started back in group last night.
I am going to settle a few days on SW and then start the tablets -try and get some of the fat out of my system first!!

thanks for the tips, I am going to try eggs and see how I go but avoid normal cheese(stick to the very low fat cottage cheese will do me) syns I will happily avoid chocolate and stick to options or haribo if I need something sweet.
Just trying to find an alternative to the nasty frylight now.......
