Zumba Teacher Training - What to expect?

Another Zumba course has opened up in my country!
:wee: :party0019: :wee:

After the last one filled up I swore I'd jump at the next one but before I hand over my card details I'd love to hear from some people who have already been through it.

My main concern is would I be ready for it? If not it would be a waste of money. Surely you have to be good enough to teach, or close to it, when you take the course because afterwards you would be a qualified Zumba instructor. I haven't been Zumba-ing for very long. Also, are these courses typically full of superslim athletics because if so I'd stick out like a sore thumb!

If anyone out there could share some info with me I would really appreciate it, I'd hate to dither for too long and miss my chance again.

I'm afraid I cant help with any of your questions as I'm not an instructor. But I've been to 8 different classes over the past year & can reassure that they haven't all been super slim athletes :)

I've been to Zumba classes with several different leaders, and none of them can teach, so I don't think you need to worry about that.

Thank you both for your responses. I know not everyone in a Zumba class is like a music video model, but I was worried that in the teacher training classes they might be.

One of my teachers is about a size 16 & she is absolutely fab! It's all about burning energy & having fun :) I think you should go for it - you've got nothing to lose!

Hey

I'm a Zumba Instructor!

When I went for my training I felt the same as you. I was really worried that all the people from fitness backgrounds would look down on me ... but then the masterclass started and I realised I was just as good, if not better than them. Just because you are in the fitness industry it doesn't make you a good zumba teacher. You will get the odd comment about ETM but I just nod and agree, I didn't let them know what my qualifications were. Just go out there and have fun.

The day goes quite quickly til around 3 then the fatigue starts to kick in but it's not too bad really. I'd take a jumper with you, you'll be up and down like a yo yo and once you sit down the air con cools you down pretty quickly and it can get a bit chilly. You will start off with a masterclass (just like your usual zumba class) then they ill take you through the basic steps of salsa, cumbia, merengue and reggaeton. They will also talk to you about marketing, insurance and legal stuff. Overall the day is broken down well, just take plenty of water, lunch, a few snacks and a change of clothes.

It'l be fab - no need to worry at all.

Who are you doing your training with??

I don't think ETM instructors are really in any position to look down on anyone if they're attending a Zumba day. If they were really that good, they wouldn't need Zumba Fitness LLC. There are a couple of ETM teachers in my area who now do nothing except Zumba, and I want to grab them and shake them and say "you've got exercise qualifications coming out of your ears, why are you content to just be the middlewoman for an American company? You're better than that... aren't you?"

Zumba Queen, thanks a million, I really appreciate getting to hear a bit about what the course would be like. It's being run by Hermann Melo.

I had to look up ETM. Is it Exercise To Music? I'm sure I could shrug off unhelpful or unnecessary comments. Thanks for the heads-up.

I still really wanna do it but I asked a friend last night and he looked up loads of areas near me and pointed out that they all already had someone doing Zumba classes. He also brought up the very good point that I don't have a lot of money if this doesn't work out for me.

But that could change between now and the time I qualify. Someone could leave for whatever reason and I could take over. Plus, a lot of places are currently only offering evening classes - I could offer morning classes and build up a group of people for whom daytime would suit.

I think I should give myself a deadline - say the end of the week. I want to have it booked by Friday if I'm going to do it.

Thanks to everyone for your replies.
