Beware of hair loss!!

Jaycey

Post-Menopausal Maniac!
I lost three stone on the Cambridge Diet - I didn't notice my hair loss at first but my hairdresser did! He went mad at me! I took loads of hair supplements, used special shampoos etc. but none of it made any difference. Unfortunately, after this weight loss, I fell down the stairs and broke my leg, and as I had to stay immobile for 12 weeks, my 'kind' husband fed me pizza and fish & chips every night......
:party0051: = :help2: !!!
Yes, of course, I put the weight back on! I'd love to do Cambridge again as I know it works, but I promised myself and my hairdresser that I wouldn't - I don't have a great deal of hair anyway, and any loss shows. (To prove this, my hairdresser held up some hair the other day, and said that it had taken TWO YEARS for the new hair to grow down to the other hair!)

:patback: :argh: !!!
So, as much as I'd like to - I just can't! (It's so frustrating - it's the only diet that's EVER worked for me!):break_diet:

Hi,

When you did Cambridge before did you do Sole Source?

Maybe do step 2 810kcal so you're still getting a meal in the evening or even 1000kcal, the weight loss may be marginally slower but it may mean you can do the diet without the side effects.

You could always change your hairdresser. ;)

Seriously, this is the reason you won't try Cambridge again? Because of the chance you'll temporarily lose some hair (and yes, it's temporary, and happens to a lot of people who have a sudden change in diet or undergo serious stress. Personally, I got the hair thinning you're describing when I first did a stint on Atkins (you don't actually go bald, do you??), but yes, it's happened to me on Cambridge, at around the 12 week mark. But it's grown back every time).

If Cambridge works for you, why not try it again? Or are you just looking for an excuse to stay three stones overweight? :)

I would definitely take Lilly's advice. Lilly you are a star, seriously. The amount of times you have helped me (I was a different username before).
I lost 4 stone and had the hair loss thing and as Lilly said it is temporary I promise. This IS the best diet and it works. U have done it before please don't give u u did amazingly well. Good luck.
P.s what a naughty husband you have hehehe. ;)

I realise I'm bumping a very old thread here but it's relevant. I started to notice thinning a couple of weeks ago, I always had lovely hair so it's really depressing. Can anyone confirm if it does grow back once you've moved up the steps?

Mine is starting to grow back. I cut my hair short and changed the parting so it doesn't bother me now. It's the same type of hair loss as after you've had a baby.

It's just the new hair growing through and pushing the old hair out once you start back on real food. It's not so much the thinning for me but the new short frizzy hair which does take 1-2 years to really grow back down to the ends. But it definitely grows back and I wouldn't let it put me off but I wouldn't want to keep doing this for longer than I had to for that reason.

For me, it's the pronounced thinning, and patches which are so thin they look actually bald. I never had kids, so no point of comparison there for me. I'm worried because of my age, that it might never come back to the thick, shiny hair I always had, I used to get compliments on it.

What with this, my new cankles and my ever more distressing bust, this diet is seriously hard in terms of side effects.

I had significant hair loss the last time I did the diet and it freaked me out a lot, and is probably why I stopped it before I reached goal. It's pretty much come right though, although it's taken about 2 years. I can tell you honestly, I'd rather cut my hair short to make it look a bit fuller, than have the weight back on, which I do. And some. :(

I'd gladly lose some hair to lose the weight. It does grow back.

I'd say lack of nutrients? I had it but I have such thick hair it's actually been nice as hair is a lot more manageable. It started just after my 11th week and last about 4 weeks, nothing major like bald patches just loads coming out. Was a bit scary to start with but when I read up on it I was fine also took some hair and nail supplements (expensive)!!! It's the same thing that happens with your pregnant. Guess if you have fine hair it could be a pain but in my opinion being massively over weight is more damaging to your body.

Total loss on cambridge - 2 stone 11lb :)

ive noticed more coming out in the bath, but not enough to get me off this diet! I love the results! i'll wear a wig if need be lol

This seems to have settled a bit for me. I shelled out a fortune on specialist scalp rubs, shampoos and supplements. Not sure if any of those are helping, but I really love spending on that kind of thing. Not sure if I'm discouraged from mentioning brands on here but I used a caffeine shampoo and rub that gives me the sense of my hair not being so bad. Woo.
