Step 1 Sole Source Not Even In Ketosis......

So.... my consultant gave me a couple of ketostix (or whatever they are called) and I am not in ketosis, the colour didnt change at all!!
Im really annoyed after 8 days but I guess that explains my constant starvation feeling. Im still pretty annoyed though :(:confused:
 
I wouldn't worry to much about this. I had this a few times in like weeks 6 & 11 even though I've never cheated!! I've stopped using them now. As long as your losing which you are I'd forget about them. The only time I'd use them now is if I'd had a night off and wanted to test that I was out of ketosis so it was safe to drink.

Just to check though, there's nothing you've had that you shouldn't of? Anything like fruit teas or diet coke?

Also just to add I felt awful until day 10 so still with it. Was like I had the flu and was starving!!!! X

Thanks Liz! My consultant said not to worry also, as I was losing weight and seem to be having the cold hands and feet etc, and these are normally symptoms? Its just annoying as I feel starving all of the time, whereas with ketosis on Atkins, it kicks in within a day and my hunger goes straight away, so I kind of had a feeling that I wasnt in it as I know what it feels like. It just makes this so much more hard work for me.

No, I haven't had anything, 3 products a day, lots of black coffee and peppermint tea, around 3 litres of water per day, on about 4 days Ive had tuna (180g) or 2 eggs, and also coke zero (which I was told is ok)??? Maybe it isnt? I also take berocca everyday - I wonder if this might not help? Please do let me know as Im willing to try anything not to feel hungry...

As for day 10, great.....!?! I havent suffered with headaches at all (touch wood) but Im constantly feeling starving and since Friday Ive had a sore throat and a cough, haha - just put me down now! x
 
Yeah I had all them symptoms too. Keep warm and have loads of baths and keep your mind occupied. X

Just a thought, if you're saying you were given the ketostix by your consultant, you've no idea as to how old they are, how long the bottle has been opened etc?
It may well be that you actually are in ketosis but it's your stix that are not registering properly as I definitely am in ketosis but still get hunger pangs! X
 
I had cold hands early and late in the diet.

As for the ketostix, mixed results dependant upon how much water you drink. I used to say to myself that when I felt hungry my body was eating the fat. It sort of helped.

It sounds like you probably are in ketosis if you've got some of the symptoms. However, I would guess that Berocca is full of citric acid, so is probably a no-no. Check the website or ask your CDC for confirmation.

Thanks Anne, thats a very good point! She went and got them from her bathroom, but as you say she may not have used them for a while and I had no idea about an expiry date! I have ordered my own which should be with me today or tomorrow so I will have a play around with them and see what happens :) x

Thank you!!! I have heard that somewhere before and last night in bed when my stomach was growling at me and making lots of noises I was thinking its the fat going!! haha - whatever gets us through this, thanks for your comment and support :) x

I googled it and it definitely has citric acid in, I asked my consultant and she said she didnt know if I should have it or not? So Im just going to stop it and see if that helps :) x
 
I would definitely stop the berrocca. You don't need it anyway as the three Cambridge products has all your vitamin and minerals for the day.
 
On the whole, very good, not suffering too much, the hunger I'd generally under control and the weight loss is good. Unfortunately had a major blip yesterday, had family round and just went completely to pot. Back on it today though so going to be a bit rough till I get back into ketosis. I'm keeping going and that's the important bit. X
 
Yes just forget it and get back on it straight away, none of us are perfect and we all mess up at some point, its just how we then deal with it and move on from it that makes the difference! Hope youre feeling better today x
 
Do you reckon the occasional little splurge actually confuses your body so it doesn't think it's being starved? Just a thought! X
 
Some studies have shown "cheat days" boost your metabolism. Not necessarily going out and eating your own body weight in cream cakes, but just having more than you normally would every so often can increase your metabolism once it's slowing.

That said, drinking lots of water (preferably cold water) also helps boost your metabolism by 30% - so that's another way you might be able to boost yourself on the scales!
 
Totally think they do. I'm the prime example of that. 2 sts weeks then have a cheat day and lose 8lb. I've got another planned for tomorrow. I do think however that you need to be in the zone to do this so like after 4 weeks. X
