How to maintain and not lose more?

Hi ladies and gents.
I am not new to these amazing forums, as I lost 5.5 stone in 2008 with LL. Due to extreme circumstances i.e. bereavement of husband/remarriage and subsequent birth of wonderful twins, I faced 3 stone 5lbs to lose to get back to my original loss and happy weight. So I joined CD. I have a further 1 stone 3lbs to lose to get there, but naturally I'm starting to consider the long term maintenance side of things...and hoping that the weight won't go up again due to the reasons that knocked me for six last time round!

My question is, in order to maintain at the desired target weight....how does it work? Do you go up the steps from SS/SS+ because my natural concern is I don't actually want to be any less than my target weight, because it really doesn't suit me. Or do I get to a weight near my target and then start increasing the steps? I just wanted to see the general view and how you inspirational goal acheivers have managed?!

Thank you sooo much :)

Hi Kaali ,
Once you get close to your goal then work your way up the steps so that you don't dip under, or at least not too far under, your goal weight. Once you've worked up the steps you should have a good idea of what works for you regarding amounts of cals and types of foods that suit you and your lifestyle to keep your weight even. I hope that makes sense. Your cdc should talk through working up the steps with you and just make sure that you are happy with the plan.

In order to gauge your final cals per day you should work out your basal metabolic rate and your Tdee there are plenty of online calculators for it!

Hey,

I can tell you about my expeariance. I got to my goal, and worked up the steps. I found that step 5 was actually more than I was comfortable eating. I moved on to just what would be come my normal diet. and kept loosing weight. So the main idea is to only eat what you will work off on adverage. I maintain this by going to the gym and walking, but also still weighing my self. So If I see it start to creep up and correct it. if it starts to go to low I correct it.

So now I have breakfast every day ether something small like a mullar rice or a yogurt or bowl of crunchy nut. Then half a tin of soup for lunch, after a bad week a last week I am not having bread with it, just a nice cuppa tea and some juice. Then for tea something healthy like chicken and veg. Once a week or so.. sometimes more I have treats. This seems to work for me
The treat can be a really nice meal though not neseraly a pudding.
For example last week I had a really really large mac and cheese with loads of extra cheese lol
