The Soldiers of Ovenden Moor. A poetic Hello!

Nick-Steel

A melon amongst lemons
I'm pretty much brand new to the forum, and I stumbled upon this section of the site this morning. Was pleasantly surprised not only to see a creative writing section on the forum, but also at the fantastic standard of writing that has been posted up so far! I write a lot of poetry and stories and would like to contribute my writings and ramblings to you all, so without further ado, here is my latest poem, if you want an explanation I'll give one later on. I hope that you like it, looking forward to flexing some verbal muscle, hopefully to help me relax along with the lifestyle change I've taken to aid with weight loss!
------------------------------------------------

We 23 soldiers
Upon Ovenden Moor
Standing shoulder to shoulder
Steel hearts in our core
Though are blades be unsharpened
And our uniforms torn
We attend to our duties
Arming nature for war.

We 23 heroes
Overlooking the streets
Rain clouds for berets
Heather shoes on our feet
Through the frosts, through the rain
We will never retreat
Our combined revolutions
Light your homes, bring you heat

We 23 brothers
Confined to formation
Shout only in whispers
Yet cause aggravation
We came to bring power
To enrich the nation
Yet our presence and stature
Cause more confrontation.

We 23 few
Stranded high on the moor
A hope for the future?
Or just an eyesore.
We symbolise change
From mistakes of before
Will you stand up beside us?
Or choose to ignore?
