Hiya a question for my mum she hasn't been diagnosed long she started slimming world before she was diagnosed with type 2 there she is only on tablets because the frequency in the no.1s but since she has been on it the weightloss has stopped shes eating the same as before but it just not happening:sigh:

My mum also had a lot of pain with it but someone said it might be worth trying a low gi diet.

Don't know if this helps, but I have just been diagnosed as prediabetic and prescribed Metformin. As this is my first week I will not pretend to be an expert, but this is what I know at this point:
- with Metformin you start at a low dose (I am on 500mg per day) and go up gradually. From what I've read, best weight loss results come when you are on around 1500mg.
- people have far fewer problems with the extended release tabs than the normal ones.
- following a low-carb/low gi/ high protein diet reduces sickness and diarrhoea.
- it's important for weightloss to do some exercise every day; just 30 mins brisk walking or similar.
- and personally, having been someone who really struggles to lose weight on any diet, I have lost 1.2kg in 3 days and I am delighted!

I have been on metformin for about 15 years, and have been lucky not to have too many problems with it.
The advice to build up slowly is good advice - I think I had 1 x week on 2 tablets a day, then increased by a further 1 each week until I was on a dose of 3000mg per day.
Your mum could ask her GP about changing to slow release metformin - this suits some people better.
Good luck!
