Does anybody go to/ thinking of joining park run?

Its my first time tomorrow..im excited but think it will be hard work!

I ran before christmas about 4 times a week for two or three months. My fitness was great. I did 5k before christmas in 29 mins. Ive had two weeks off and blowing the dust off my trainers and joining park run.

Any tips or anything to do with park run? Tell me your experiences..have you beat you PB?

ive done park run 3 times, first two times I got 38 minutes, 3rd time 33 minutes :D

Well done! My time won't be brilliant for the next 2 weeks, I'm the tail runner

I went to my first parkrun today. 37m12s - not bad for a first run in about 6 months.
I was really impressed at how nice everyone was!

not tail running next week, had 2 ladies yesterday at the back. really nice to chat too, and new to running.

I've been last over the line twice - both 38mins or so but it's such a friendly atmosphere that I don't really mind!

that wouldn't even come close to last on preston park run, we have up to 44 minutes coming last

I registered yesterday with the aim to run my first Parkrun in five weeks time as that is the earliest I will be able to go to one. At the moment I'm running for 25 mins (just) and going 3.48km so I need to get up to the full 5k in the five weeks! My only aim is to not be the last one to finish.

What happens at the finish line? I've read about the 'tunnels' (or funnels?!) and getting a token but I'm not sure how this gives you a time. I don't want to be the one who gets it wrong!!

You will reach your goal in no time.
Bit more every day!

At the end you cross the line and get a ticket. I followed the person in front of me and a volunteer will scan your barcode. Not sure what you mean about the tunnels?!

Thank you... I'll make sure I'm not that far behind I can't follow someone else at the finish!

I meant funnels... this is in the FAQ:

"The finish area is different at each of our events - some have taped funnels, others are 'imaginary' funnels marked with cones. Please, please do not leave the funnel until you have been given a finish position token (it really messes up our results and takes an age to sort out)"

just means if you go back to run with someone else still running to not go to the finish again.
been having loads of issues with them doing that at preston parkrun recently

I was done for tail runner today, wasn't allowed to due to injury, so did funnel marshalling

you get given a token, this is scanned. your timing goes by the timers stop watch.

I think once I reach the finish there isn't a cat in hell's chance I'd be going back to run with anyone else!! So all I need to do is follow someone else and wait in place to be given a token... I think I can do that.

I'm looking forward to it and a little disappointed that I cant make it a regular thing

Or getting your ticket and then not having your barcode scanned..it messes up the results. The funnel is just where the finish line is. Ours was cones and rope lined out to make a walk way...or a run way as such! Lol

same as prestons funnel then :)
