Lactose intolerance

I have just been diagnosed with lactose intolerance and i dont really understand it. I know what it is obviously but apart from the obvious dairy im not too sure what i can eat as i know theres lactose in all sorts. Can anyone help? Also will this effect my weight loss?? Thanks guys :)

I am dairy sensitive so things can be a bit hit and miss sometimes, so for that I have for a while cut out all dairy:

Milk, cream, ice cream, cakes, cheeses - hard or soft or spreads or biscuits, quite a lot of "creamy" salad sressings (read the label!), some bread spreads (good job I had cut out breads and all things "starchy and bakey"), yoghurts, some fruit smoothies, haagen dazs and ben and jerry ice creams, magnums, chocolates, birthday cakes, milkshakes... Morrisson's Alpen-type museli, jammy-dodgers that have the custard in them, some Krispy Kreme donughts, double cream (on strawberries, on waffles etc), Spaghetti Carbonara, cream of chicken soup... Chocolate eclairs.... Baileys (I am serious!) ...

Hopefully you get the picture. The absolute cherry-on-the-top for me, (though this may not apply for you), is that I can't take whey protein. It's a P.I.T.A. that I have to buy vegan protein powder but hey, what can I do? (Shrug).

Almond milk tastes the closest to cow's milk but haven't tried it in tea or coffee. Soya milk curds when it hits hot water so if you're gonna use that, keep that in mind if you want to use that in your tea/coffee/ hot chocolate. Rice milk is very watery but it's light and goes well with cereals.

I have learnt to like balsalmic vinegar and olive oil so that's all I use for my salads now. I had a caesar salad recently and sadly was "paying" for it twice - the first time at the till, the second time on the loo...

As for the weight loss... yeah, cutting out dairy helped but I was a doofus and made up (and some more) for the lack of cakes etc with beer and spirits...
