Vegan SW saying 'hello!' :-)

Hi there

I've been on the WeightWatchers online plan for a year or so and had lost around 1 and a half stone (from 11.5 down to 10 stone). BUT, then Christmas happened, and I haven't really got back on track since!

A couple of friends of mine have lost huge amounts of weight by going to SW classes and both recommended that SW was a much better plan to follow than WW. So, I've cancelled my online WW membership and I'm setting off on my SW journey tomorrow! I'm not able to go to classes as there isn't a class near me which is on a day/time that I can attend. I'm contemplating paying for the three months of online membership (the £60 or so payment might encourage me to stick at the diet!), or I might just order the food directories from eBay and go it alone ...

I don't have a huge amount of weight to lose really. I haven't dared step on the scales since the start of the year so I'd estimate I'm about 147lbs at the moment, and I'd like to get down to 130lbs or so.

I've been vegan for around 4 years, and was vegetarian for 20 or so years before then, but I've never really had a healthy and balanced diet. It's very easy to be a junk-food scoffing wine-glugging vegan y'see! Hopefully SW will educate me into eating more of the right kinds of foods, and I'll shed those excess pounds along the way! I have to say, being a pasta lover, I'm quite sceptical about the SW green day plan - I can't see how being allowed to eat unlimited amounts of pasta and other carbs will make me lose weight at all! But, when I look at my two friends (who've lost about 10 stone between them on SW), I think that surely it must work.

Fingers crossed anyway, and here's to a healthy happy future!

Good luck with SW. It does work as long as you follow the plan 100 %. Good luck

Hi and welcome, I'm a vegan and following the sw green plan, it would be great to keep in touch. I have a lot more to loose than you, 69lbs, and have just started. I did the plan a years & years ago and managed to loose so hoping for the same, I'm doing it from home and weigh in on a Monday here.

Hope to speak to you soon

Jean

Hello fellow green vegan! I'm doing the plan entirely at home too, and may well weigh in on Monday. My mum has sent me up her old 'sin a day' book and '125 green recipes' whilst I'm waiting for my 2012 SW Directories to arrive (I paid inflated eBay prices ...). From what I can gather, it's going to be a lot easier to stick to than WW was as I don't need to be weighing pasta and beans all the time. I'm even trying to convince OH to do SW with me as well (he usually does the cooking so it'll make things a lot easier!).

I'm hoping to go through my 'Appetite for Reduction' book and synify as many recipes as possible to avoid boring meals, and I'm hoping to drastically cut down my wine consumption which should help matters too ...

I might also borrow some ideas from Oddsock and Hastalavegan's food diaries. I guess I could start my own food diary thread too

Sounds like you have got yourself sorted, the two food diaries you mention are great sources of information, my hubby is on it as well, also a vegan, loosing so much weight it's annoying! But it does make life easier. I weigh in on the new Monday weigh please join forum, makes me stick to the plan over the weekends, or at least that's the plan, and I'm about to do one this Friday on the Vegan Forum, in the hope it will keep me on plan theoughout the week! I think it's a great idea to start up a food diary, been thinking about it myself. Good luck.

Hiya new vegan :)

I'm vegan and have been yo yo ing up and down the scales with SW for years - I worked out recently that over the last few years I've lost about 20 stones :(

Now I'm having counselling to help with my coping strategy of binging that so obviously doesn't work and having been ill I've just picked up the pieces and started again. I'd be happy to lose 2 or 3 stone.

I've a food diary in the silver section, I think you need 500 posts to see it. Its there as not only have I put food on it, its also very personal with a lot of my troubles over the last year or so. Its not googleable there either.

Wishing you all the very best with SW, any help I can give, just ask.

For some reason, men always do well on Slimming World. My OH does far better than me, and he really enjoys the food, too. Or says he does, anyway!
