Susu's sustainable diet diary

Hi, I'm Susu.
I'm 52 and have yoyoed between 8st and 18st for most of my adult life. I really need to find a way of eating I can sustain over the long term.
I intend to weigh myself just once a month because I am quite a slow loser and this is for life.
My first target is to lose 25lbs by the middle of October. That's 5lbs per month.

Welcome Susu :)
People here at WeMITTS are great and you'll find lots of "whatever you are looking for". I don't like to think about it just as a support group, but as a place to have some fun, relax and share experiences :)

Thanks for the welcome Letzes.

Was quite pleased with myself this afternoon as I had a vitamin drink instead of my usual cappuccino. Unfortunately I had a hypo just before leaving for home, I'm insulin dependent, nothing half a packet of lovehearts and a hobnob wouldn't fix but it meant I was half an hour late getting home and the temptation to nibble is huge while I'm waiting for dinner to cook.Damn my new meter, it registers much higher than my old one and will take a bit of getting used to.

(reading 5.1mmol/l well within target)

Making a batch of cauliflower and celery soup. Homemade soup is a MUST when I'm losing weight. That's another thing that falls by the wayside when I'm putting on weight. Maybe a commitment to making soup once a week is in order.

Hi Susu :)

Welcome and good luck.

I'm also 52 btw :)

Tracy

Thanks Tracy. It looks like you're doing well.

cc day 1855cals

What do you use to track your calories?
I've recently started using mfp.

Congrats for the good day.

I'm using mfp. I need to input more of my regular meals into it to make it easier. So not fully organized yet.

I eat more, but naturally consume less calories on sw ( around 1500). So the more sw days I can do the better. Just wish the slimming world fairy would appear to do all the organizing, shopping and cooking! cc more flexible.

My plan is to have sw days and cc days depending on how much time I've got at home. I haven't done it this way before but don't see any problems with it, as long as I'm happy to lose slowly. Hopefully it will be the best of both worlds.

Looks like you're doing well Letzes.

Slowly, steady and happily is the key when we have lots of weight to lose :)

I tried lots of crazy diets when I was younger and unsatisfied with my appearance -- none of them worked and I even got sick. Now, that I decided to accept myself the way I am, I could finally manage to improve my diet.

I lost quite a lot with sw and thought i'd got it sussed. Then my world sort of fell apart and it was back to suicidal eating. Feel like I'm ready to move on now.

Feel like I'm ready to move on now.

The best thing I've read in ages - it's so great when we come out the other side of horrible personal stuff and get in focus - so well done hun!

And welcome, by the way, great to see you here! :) :wavey:

Welcome, Susu! :) Sounds like you're starting off with exactly the right attitude--and very realistic, healthy expectations. Wishing you the best of luck with it. xx

Welcome and congrats on working towards a healthier life. I love that you want to do things slowly and keep it off for good. Good luck with everything, I'm sure you will do fab!

Thank you ladies.

First challenge today is that I'm going out to lunch. I'm going to have some of my cauli soup (64 cals) before I go out so I'm not that hungry . Old sw trick to up the proportion of veg.

Frozen grapes is another favourite from sw. They're lovely and great for Summer.

Yes we will.

How the lunch ended up!?
I usually struggle when I have social events, I'm the kind of person who likes to control everything or nothing. So, if I go out, I just eat a lot without thinking :/

So, lunch.

I ordered chicken stuffed with haggis and wrapped in bacon with new potatoes and veg. When it came they had given me chips instead of potatoes so I sent it back.(good girl). The potatoes, when they eventually arrived, came with 2 pats of butter so I used 1 which seemed like a good compromise. Butter is my nemisis, well one of them. No dessert, no milky coffee.

Overall think I made a reasonable choice. Not a full roast with extra yorkshires nor a boring pasta with tomato sauce and a bit of basil.

I estimate 889 cals.

I'm babysitting all 3 grandsons tonight. Talk will be minecraft, dinosaurs and fireman Sam.

GMA what IS your favourite shark ?

I hope they bring sweeties;)
