Is Slimming World Online a bit of a con?

I agree. It really doesn't offer much. Group meetings are great and well worth the money but if you're doing it yourself at home, the online subscription's really costly for what it is.

    tips for the weekend

I plan ahead too - I think that's really key to making it work for me. I keep a couple of packs of scan bran in so I can do a Scan Bran Cake if I feel the need for something sweetish. I usually manage some sort of cooked breakfast, even if it's just eggy bread. And I tend to try and make...

I do a mullerlight with hexB muesli soaked overnight. Plus an apple and 2 babybels for my hexA.

Just joined slimming world and confused

I tried to build a really simple format for most days, so I don't really have to think about it. Breakfast - An apple and 2 babybels (HexA) plus mullerlight and muesli (HexB) soaked overnight (I tend to do all 5 for the week on Sunday nights). Lunch - Usually something like one of the free...

Does anyone else Struggle to have the A everyday?

I love the baby bels as well (although I bet if I sat and costed it out, it'd be a lot cheaper to buy a block of cheese and make some little chunks to last the week). I put grated cheese in stuff (omelettes, lasagne etc) if I'm doing those. I hardly ever drink milk and often really don't...

Do people misbehave after a Weigh-In?

I try and have something nice but don't go off plan (tbh I don't eat a lot on weight in day so have my syns and hexb left for afterwards). We did go to a class a couple of years ago where the leader actually encouraged what she called "black holes" on weigh-in night. Really not good for me...

Should I invest in an AirFry

I'm ever so tempted to get one too. I do enjoy the SW chips, and my partner has them 2 or 3 times a week. I heard they take a long time in the actifry, though. Is it about 40 minutes for normal chips?
  9. L

Starting SW tomorrow for the first time.... Best advice for a newbie?

Totally agree about filling a food diary in. I'd be hopeless without it - I can never understand how people do it by remembering everything in their head. Maybe I'm getting old, but I'm pretty sure I'd forget things.

    Whats for tea tonight?

We've had Slimming World burgers and SW chips. Made the chips using rooster potatoes, and I think they make a really nice chip. (Lol - can't believe I'm researching potato brands instead of just popping to the chippy. New healthy me!).

    Breakfast ideas

I always have stuff I can grab easily when I'm going into work. Babybels, boiled eggs, mullers, bananas. I do a mix of a muller and a hexb of muesli or porridge oats sometimes - kept in the fridge overnight and it soaks up all the yogurt. If I'm working late, I sometimes too an omellette...

    Whats for tea tonight?

We're having a couple of chicken breasts with a mountain of cauli (DP's in the kitchen, and it's his fave), a few carrots and new potatoes. Plus a mini yorkshire each for 2.5 syns and 2 tbsp apple sauce for 2 syns. DP's having a tbsp of gravy granules (3.5) and I'm having two Dairylea light...

Long shift workers packed lunches ideas?!

I often take cold lunches and it's really tricky - my favourites are the ones that need a bit of planning and prep the night before. I love things like cold SW quiche / rice loaf or noodles with something - my favourite is with fresh pineapple and prawns. If I can manage to do a couple of...

    20 stone room

I'm at 20st 6 - I've just started for the millionth time and have lots 5.8 this first week. Hopefully I'll be through to to the teens very soon. I actually feel quite lucky that I'll have that big milestone so early on.
  16. L

    Guilty

I find this so difficult too; I think it's because the weeklies are separate and seem special - that aspect was probably better on the old system where we could save points up and carry them on. I find it's most difficult when I'm planning to have something major like a meal out. I still can't...

    anyone else fail spectacularly?!

I think that one of the most important things is to know what really works for you. Having a 'lightbulb moment' and suddenly switching to a real focus on slimming is also great, but I've only ever had one of those (and that was six years ago - I lost three stone without any difficulty, but then...

    Is WW for me???

It does take a bit of time to cross over from the old style to propoints. I joined WW online and it's so, so easy to just enter something on the menu plan and the system tells you what the points are. I only came across this fairly recently - before that, I'd just used the books and then...

    Does PP work for everyone?

I've tried ProPoints once before (and the old system many times), and I do lose weight if I stick to it to the letter. Normally 1.5 - 2 lbs, but at least I was losing. I have a lot to lose and I know that makes it easier at the start. I've seen lots of notes about people struggling with the...

    Old Core Plan

I thought that Core was just the actual basic foods on that list. I've never been able to stick with it for long because it feels even more restrictive than Slimming World. I think if you made your own spring rolls you could work it out so that you were just counting the wrap, but if you're...

    New to Weight Watchers

I normally use my weeklies on the weekends. I find that's when I need the extra flexibility. Plus I weigh in on Saturdays so it means I'm eating more at the start of the week (which makes me think I'll shake it off during the week and lose more...).

    Surprising or shocking pro-point finds....

My two best finds were both yesterday. A single tbsp of ketchup (which is all I need) is zero. And then I wanted a glace cherry on my melon last night (I'm a child of the 70s!!!) and found out that if I just have one, it's also zero. Loving this plan!
  23. L

SW seems more popular at the moment than WW. Does anyone else agree?

I love Slimming World in short bursts, but I just can't stick with it for more than a few weeks at a time - 'specially if we're going out for a meal or something. WeightWatchers is so simple to slot into ordinary life without having to make so many big changes.
  24. L

    Mixing SW with WW

We've had times like this. I switch between WW and SW. Partner does SW - says he can't cope with WW as it's too fiddly. We tend to do at least a couple of meals separately in the week anyway, but when we're having the same thing I just slide bits away to weigh where I need to. I don't find...

    Cauliflower instead of pasta/rice

I wrote a blog post recently about dieting tricks, and an American woman came on and mentioned the cauliflower thing. I'd never heard of it before then, but it does make sense. (Still not brave enough to actually try it, though!).
  26. L

    WW vs SW

I think I'm like lots of people, switching between the two and never being quite sure which I prefer. I always start out really well on Slimming World, and I find it really easy so long as I can plan ahead and make sure I have time for preparing everything from scratch. I find it a bit tedious...

    Pineapple, thought I'd share...

I love pineapple too. Saw these in Asda yesterday and was so tempted as I hate the faff of having to peel and core them myself. We'd just had a big talk about how we need to save money, though, so would have felt bad sneaking one into the basket!

    OMG - I am mortified!

I got my partner to take some pics of me a couple of weeks ago - I wanted a decent one for my linkedin page so I got all smartened up and was doing all sorts of smart and business-like poses. I look absolutely nothing like the way I imagined. Suddenly, I seem really old and fat (I always seem...

Anybody else feel the need to weigh less than their sister?

I've always, always been hugely bigger than my younger sister. She's waif thin and I suspect she'll be that way forever. I don't think I'd even enjoy being that slim; she hardly eats anything and I love my food too much!

    Louise's Exante Adventure

Day 2 and I'm struggling with this but telling myself that it's the right path for me to go down. Louise's Exante Adventure

Well, I finally managed to get started this morning (I had to go away with work for a couple of days and decided that it would be a bad idea to try and do the early days of the diet while not being at home). I had a vanilla shake for breakfast and then a bar at around 2pm. I'm not feeling at...

    Which diet is the best?

If you've never dieted before, I'd be inclined to start out with either Slimming World or Weight Watchers. Some people have great losses on those, and I would try those first and see if you can do it that way - both super healthy and leave room for a few little indulgences! (I'm going for...

    anyone tried celevac ( methylcellulose ) ?

This sounds really interesting, but it's odd that it seems to have been around for a while (just did a quick google), and yet (just based on the fact that I'd never heard of it before and you've had to ask your chemist to order it in 'specially) it seems odd that it's doesn't seem well known.

    difference cambridge/lipotrim/exante or other

I've just bought a month's worth of Exante for just over £100. So about £25 per week. That's for a bumper variety pack, though - they don't let you choose the stuff and just send an equal number of each flavour. I'm really hoping that I like all the flavours - it's about £50 per week if you...

I've just got my first pack - ordered on Sunday evening and it arrived this morning. Although I've not even started yet, I'm really confident about the chances of losing weight - mostly because I've read so much good stuff on here about it. Best of luck with it!

Thanks for all the encouragement, everyone. I'm so looking forward to getting started. My monthly bumper box of delights arrived today. It's so weird to think that all of my 'food' for February is packed into two little boxes! I had a bit of a kerfuffle with my box of soups; one of them...

    How Did You Become Fat?

I've had food issues for as long as I can remember, and have been overweight for all of my adult life (and carried extra weight throughout my childhood). My father had a very judgey attitude to anyone with even slight weight issues, so some of it originates there, I suspect.

I've made my mind up - after a lot of deliberating between the different vlcds - that I'm going to start Exante on 2nd Feb. I've ordered a month's supply of stuff, and am hoping that I'll like at least enough of the varieties to make it worth going for the bulk-buying option. But in the end...
