    Reached a magic number

How to awaken an old thread. A two year old thread ! Current weight is 187 lbs. which might sound bad as its 12lbs heavier than my last post in this thread. However, a lot of cycling has been done, I have a good bit more muscle and am much fitter. Still in a 34" waist. Also, if I'm honest, I...

    Cycling

Cycling is great. Very kind to your joints. You can choose to go flat out or ease off the effort and go for longer rides. It has been very very good to me. Cycle a route, then walk it and you'll appreciate the distances you can cover. Strangely enough, my abodminal muscles have seen some serious...

    Cycling

It's been a while since I poke my head around the corner in this lovely forum. Hope everyone is well and getting to where they want to be. Current interest is cycling. It's now part of my daily commute. Only 2 miles each way, but quite an amount of hills involved, so I know I've worked at the...

    Exercise bike?

Had exercise bike for about 7 years - practically never used it. Now have real bike. Use it all the time, because it actually goes places...

Cycling, bit worried I am too heavy!!??

I had an exercise bike in my shed for years. For me, it's the most boring thing in the world. Eventually gave it away on freeserve. I now have a proper bike and I pretty much go out on it whenever I get a chance. Not for commuting or for actually going on journeys, just using the bike because...

    Reached a magic number

Thanks for all previous positive comments. It really makes such a difference. Met up with some friends last week who hadn't seen me for around a year or so. They were shocked - sufficiently that two of them immediately thought I was unwell because of the sheer amount of weight I had lost. Once...

    Strange effect of weight loss.

Everything now back to normal. Just sort of gradually started working again. Which is nice. Down to 175lbs now as well. Which is even nicer.

    Strange effect of weight loss.

The doctor said it might be a factor - my knees are bonier than they used to be, so it might be causing a nerve issue apparently. As I said above, it doesn't cause any distress a bit, but my foot moves slightly strangely, that's all. If it can be fixed easily, fair enough. If it's going to stay...

    Strange effect of weight loss.

Since losing the weight - went from max of 19 stone (ish) to a fairly steady weight of just under 13 stone - I have acquired a strange malady. I seem to be suffering a thing called foot drop. In short, I have difficulty lifting my left foot in what they call dorsiflexion - pointing the foot up...

    Reached a magic number

Been a long yime since I've posted. Not been so strict with my diet of late, but it seems relatively easy to maintain somewhere between a minimum of 179lbs and a max of 183lbs. That's not bad - I'm 6'2". Maintaining is a bit less exciting than losing it in the first place, but no less satisfying.

    Reached a magic number

Thank you very much indeed. Been a difficult few days. Thursday - Christmas lunch with work. Three courses. Thursday night - christmas dinner with a club I'm in. Three courses again. Thursday night - Friday morning. Horrific indigestion. Friday. Tea, toast, Alka Seltzer and Zantac...

    Reached a magic number

Monday 15th December - 179lbs. It had slowed down for the last couple of weeks then all of a sudden from being stuck at 183lbs as above, yesterday it was 180-181 and today it's 179. Varying my intake seems to work better than consistency for me. Have a cool yule everyone :)

    Reached a magic number

Life is very strange. I haven't been particularly good this week. As I get nearer target, I am being a little less hard on myself. Still avoiding eating rubbish, but being a bit less hardline with my general intake. Not eating too much, but not starving either. Today'd weight. 183lbs. That's...

What a fantastic achievement. Keep at it - you're much nearer the finish line than the start line

    hubbys 3rd week

The way I look at it, it's a pound lost - add them up and he'll get there. If it helps, that's my average - a pound a week. I started this year 17.5 stone and am now in the order of 13.5 stone. I'm also male - 43 just gone in my case. Regarding chocolate, I figured it was easier to completely...

    Reached a magic number

Sunday 23rd November, 187lbs. Clearly things are slowing down a bit now the closer I get to a natural weight where I should be anyway. It still isn't hard work, avoid biscuits, crisps, sweets and takeaways. That's about it. All the best folks. :)

How do I stop the weight loss and stabilise ?

How do I stop. I'm not on a diet. I'm watching what I eat, avoiding the rubbish and trying to look after myself. I'm much nearer the finish line now having maybe at the very most a stone to go now. If I do lose that, I'll be 11 1/2 stone. I don't reckon a 6 ft 2 ins male should be less than...

    Reached a magic number

Sunday 16th November 2008. 5.30am 187.6lbs, so we'll call that 188lbs. That seemed like a slow one to lose, but a pound a week is as it should be, so I'm happy with that along with the waist size reduction - now down from a 40 to a 34. Couldn't be more pleased - where does all of this...

It's not just about the weight loss

Thank you very much indeed for your kind words. I hope I'm not coming across as all triumphant. Just trying to provide a wee bit of 'you can do it to' ness to any other lifelong strugglers - just like me.

It's not just about the weight loss

I pretty much haven't lost any weight for the last week or so - which is a first since I started this journey. Anyway, didn't lose any weight this week, but had a possibly more significant loss this week. Me - just turned 43 Male. Waist size when I started my weight loss back in July - 40...

Saturday 8th November 189lbs. Did have a very good day yesterday. Willpower had to be cast iron and I held out in difficult circumstances.

    Reached a magic number

Can't quite believe this one. Had to use the scales in four different positions with 3 readings taken each time just to verify it. Sunday 2nd November 2008. 191lbs. That almost explains the previous slowdown. Things stagnated for a couple of weeks there, then seem to be moving again. Just...

    Reached a magic number

Saturday 1st November 2008 194lbs. Feels like it's slowed down a bit, but if I remind myself by looking at my spreadsheet of where I was and when (yes, I'm that sad), it still looks good.

    Reached a magic number

Oh I doubt that. I'm just a bloke trying to sort himself out. I do have a way to go before I'll be truly satisfied, but most importantly my head is in the right place and I'm sticking with it. Most gratifying thing is that the blokes at work have noticed and are also joining in too. That's...

    Reached a magic number

Hi thanks very much for the positive comments. My diet is of my own devising, but it seems to be working. There are a couple of rules I follow - actually there are quite a lot of rules I follow, but they're all common sense. 1) Always have a light breakfast - sometimes around 8.00am...

    Reached a magic number

Sunday 19th October 2008 195lbs - (Depending on which direction the wind is blowing, it's either 195.2 or 194.6lbs.) My scales are more accurately calibrated in kg where they go down to 100g increments and 88.5kg is definitely sub 195lbs. Anyway !! 195 is 13 Stone 13 and is also a BMI of 25...

    Reached a magic number

Saturday October 18th 2008 196lbs - 14 Stone dead. 1lb away from the previously unimaginable 13 Stone range. Also 1lb away from the holy grail BMI number 0f 25. It's like the night before Christmas :-)

    Reached a magic number

Make that 198lbs. :D Things are moving again. This gives me a new target I hadn't realised was there. When I get to 195lbs, that'll mean I'm in the 13 Stone Zone. Now that'll be a strange experience. The only strange thing is that I had always thought that the mid thirteens would be good...

    Reached a magic number

Yes, height is on my side. In fact no one actually believes my weight was / is so high. Still, it's what I feel in myself that's important. But I'm sure you all know that anyway. :)

    Reached a magic number

This is only my second post in here, but it's quite an important milestone for me. When I started seriously trying to lose weight, I weighed 224lb. I've been much more than that in the past - 266 - but earlier this year would have been around the 245 -that's 17 1/2 stone. I'm a 6 foot 2 42 year...

    Hello All.

Just a quick hello and a very (Very) quick catch up with my journey so far. I'm a 42 year old 6 foot 2 Scottish male who up until very recently 'enjoyed' all that the Scottish diet had to offer. Ahem... I have been overweight all of my adult life. I had been quite skinny as a child but around...
