    1000 cals a day

Eating 1000 calories a day is NOT SAFE. You will do your body some serious damage, and possibly mess up your metabolism permanently. I can't believe a doctor, a supposedly well informed medical professional, could recommend that for you. Give your poor body adequate nutrition and get yourself a...

How many calories is everyone on??

When I keep to around 1500 a day I lose an average of 2lb a week.

    2009 Monday weekly weigh-in

I'm aiming for 1-2lb, eating around 1500 calories, exercising every day by alternating cardio and strength training.

    not feeling great

:( I hope you feel better soon.

    not feeling great

I second that. It can feel counter intuitive that increasing your calories will make you lose weight, but it has always helped me so I go with it.

    Where is everyone??

Still here counting away, just been in London for a while :)

why am i not losing weight!!!!

Oh! Another thing I forgot to mention which you just reminded of is that when I was doing the same exercise routine constantly I hit another plateau. Changing that around and doing some new things really helped. Good luck with whatever you decide to do! :D

why am i not losing weight!!!!

I was just going to say the same thing, because that's what I do. I have a couple of higher calorie days a week, the days for which I like to vary, and it has helped me so much as far as losing weight goes. It was when I stuck religiously to the same 1300-1500 calories a day that I hit a...

    Exercise?

But first I'd have to leave a warm, comfortable place to get there ;) I still get plenty of exercise, just not of the gym variety.
  13. M

    Exercise?

I just know I would not make proper use of a gym membership, especially in this weather, which is why I've never joined one.
  14. M

    Exercise?

Who, me? ;) Haha, they usually join in! :D
  15. M

    GOD SAKE!!!!!!!!

I agree with that. It's good to still have those things you enjoy from time to time. If you deny yourself, you're more likely to lose heart and possibly go back to old eating habits. Don't make it something you loathe doing, it will be so much harder to stick to that way.

Weigh in was today, just under 2lb gone :D

    Differing values

I tend to stick to the higher end of things when estimating calories.

    Exercise?

What kind of exercise, if any, do you supplement your calorie counting with? I normally have a pretty sedentary lifestyle as I'm a uni student sat at a desk most of the time. Work is the same, sat behind a desk, mostly. So, I have a couple of exercise DVDs (Davina) in rotation (I get bored...

i dont have the motivation to work out!

It helps a lot if you can get your exercise doing something you enjoy. It takes a lot of motivation for me to do something like an exercise DVD (routine bores me), so don't do it that often, whereas I love dancing and will happily spend over half an hour really getting into it without even...

    Whats do u snack on?

Ryvita and Crispbread (or sometimes half a bagel) with a bit of cream cheese on them :D I'll usually go for Snack A Jacks salt and vinegar mini rice and corn things when I'm out and about. A bowl of soup is often quite filling for few calories too... often around 140, depending on what...

    Alcohol and losing weight

The odd glass or two isn't going to hurt if you work it into your allowance. There's no point in completely denying yourself the things you like, otherwise you're more likely to get fed up and give in.

    tips

I never really thought about carbs much, though I know I must have a lot of them daily because of the types of food I tend to eat. I seem to gravitate to carb-rich foods. Sparkpeople.com has my allowance at between 170-250g, so I go with that. It will vary greatly for the individual.

    tips

The same thing happened to me after a month into my first go at calorie counting. I stuck at what had been working for me previously, but lost no weight for 3 weeks. Then I tried adding some higher calorie days and changed my exercise routine. That seemed to do the trick and I've been...

Another 2lb gone, which I am pleasantly surprised at. I didn't really expect to have lost anything last week.

Haha. I'm at university, so on all our trips the tutors get drunk with us ;)

what do u have for breakfast?

I admit I'm lazy in the mornings and usually just have some kind of cereal... sometimes maybe add half a bagel with some topping to that. Occasionally I will have a 2 egg omelette with a couple of potato waffles. I try to keep my breakfast around 400 calories, not including my morning tea(s) ;)...

    well helllo there

I love bagels with cream cheese :D and I was surprised too that it doesn't have anywhere near the calories I thought it would. I find I always used to either highly over or underestimate the calories in my food. When I first started really taking notice of calorie content in foods, there were...

Scales - how often do you get on

I weigh once a week first thing on a Friday morning, after going to the loo, starkers :o For me, if I started to weigh any more often than that, I think I would become obsessive and let the numbers rule me and my moods.

    Whats it like being fat???

That annoys me in general. I think even smaller people would have trouble getting past if the only effort the other person makes is to move their legs a bit. Is it so hard to get up for a second?
  34. M

    Where is everyone? Part 2!!

I log my calories at Sparkpeople.com, which calculated my daily limit as between 1200 - 1550 calories a day (plus exercise, if I want to lose between 1.5 - 2lb a week). I usually end up around 1400. On higher days I'll have between 1800 - 2100, though won't force it if don't actually want any...

I picked up some of these in last weeks shopping. They're so nice that I only managed to get one before everyone else had eaten them all  :D

    Where is everyone? Part 2!!

Progress is slow but steady, and I'm no great rush, so I'm pleased. Especially as I hit a plateau a while ago (ticker weight is my loss starting from after the plateau ended) which seemed like it wasn't going to end. I've been sticking to my daily limits now almost without even having to think...

  42. M

    Here comes the weekend...

I let up somewhat on the weekend and don't worry about it so much. Throwing a couple of higher calorie days in somewhere (I alternate them) helps keep me from hitting a plateau. My boyfriend is over this weekend and I tend to eat snack type foods a lot instead of proper meals when he's...

Foods that are low in calories

Nope, me too. I can happily eat bowls of peas, sweetcorn, broccoli or beansprouts... which usually causes this face :jelous: in others. :D

    It's Friday!

I don't have Wii Fit yet, but really want one. I'm still a bit sceptical that they can really provide a good workout? But I'll try one anyway... might see if I can get one as a Christmas present ;)

    Shrinking appetite....?

My appetite has definitely shrunk and, like Irish Mum, my tastes too have changed. Things I used to find delicious before now seem greasy or stodgy, or make me feel ill after eating them, so I don't!

Me too. I'm new here and have recently started to lose weight, mostly through calorie counting and increased exercise.
