Its great to get that determination back. I was interested in what you said about holding it together through the intense stress then later it went belly up. I think that's very true. If you have a car accident you keep it together through the exchange of details but then break down when you...

Is it really so simple ?

I know. I do understand. It has taken me five years to lose the weight I have. You will lose weight - you just need to find the key. Experiment and you will. You have shown a lot of determination sticking to it without results.

Is it really so simple ?

Hi. How many calories are you having a day? In the end that's the bottom line. Exercise can burn off some calories but you still have to eat less than you need. ....Unless you DO have a thyroid condition (like me) and then it all gets a lots weirder. It doesn't mean you can't lose weight though...

Dukan Diary of a Thyroid Tortoise

Well done! I'm not on Dukan but I do have an underactive thyroid. It does make weight loss harder but just keep going (don't compare yourself to 'normal' people because that is disheartening) and you'll get there.

    1000 - 1200 Calories

My thyroid was borderline underactive and yes it was (and still is) a great struggle to lose weight. I have adapted lots of recipes to bring the calories down - such as doing lasagne with sliced courgette rather than pasta. I also substitute butternut squash for potatoes a lot and shiratake...

Hi Sam And welcome. Calorie counting is, in my opinion, the best diet. The way I do it is I have an online account with a calorie counting website ( I use Calorie Count :: Login ) and you enter your food every day. It then works out everything for you. Some foods you can guess, like don't...

The above are all good. Here's some of mine: - Butternut Squash - use instead of potato. Saves LOADS of calories - Frozen grapes and yoghurt. what's the most weight you have lost?

I've lost lots - see my ticker. Everyone else is doing great too. My advice - pick any diet you fancy and stick to it. Have a back-up diet to switch to if/when you get bored. If you eat off plan just get back on the plan but figure out why you ate off plan. Use the time you are dieting to sort...

  25. coley144

    Misery :(

I'd suggest you figure out why you turn to food. It is stress? Anger? Boredom? What emotion are you covering up with food. If you are emotional eating then you need to figure out why. Before you eat stop and ask yourself why. Solve that riddle and you won't put it on again.

Ok take a deep breath.... VLCD's cannot fail to work. I have a thyroid problem and they work for me (if slowly). You need to stop stressing. It will work. Well it will if you can stick to it. Eating carbs can put on pounds really quickly because the first 5-7 pounds you lose on VLCD's are...

    How to come off exante????

Once you lose enough weight you can just start introducing food slowly... Say yoghurt and fruit for brekkie, salad for lunch then chicken and veg for tea. 30 day Shred

I'm not saying don't do it. I'm saying that in some people it slows weight loss down. I think its because you are eating so little then, with the DVD, burning so much, your body has a bit of a panic. It is a great DVD - do it - just keep an eye on your weight loss.
  34. coley144

    30 day Shred

Hi. I'm on exante with two shakes and a meal - about 800-1000 cals. I found doing to shred every day hard and it slowed my weight loss. But it is fab so I am now doing it three times a week. So have a go but be careful.

Well done Big H. I tend to have an 'each to their own' mentality with diets. I've done CD, Calorie counting, Harcombe and Exante in my very long diet. Thyroxine & Xenical

Xenical can stop absorption so you need to take it a long time after/before you take your thyroxine. When I tried Xenical I took it just with my evening meal rather than breakfast. I take my thyroxine in the mornings. As I just had porridge for brekkie and lentil soup for lunch I figured I...

    This Is It

What's your calorie limit for the day? You could try splitting it up for meals (I don't really see any meals in your food diary except cereal). Eating well regularly means you are not hungry so diets are much easier to stick to. It also gets your metabolism fired up. So for example you could...

Count your first week definitely. Then when you finish the diet slowly introduce carbs and keep your calories quite low - that should mean that you lose a bit more weight whilst replacing glycogen so it evens out.

  92. coley144

why isnt this working for me ???

The thing to remember is that, if you stick to it, it WILL work. You can't eat that much less calories and it not work. I lose much slower than others (for example my week 3 on Exante I lost nothing) but you do get there in the end. Tortoise and hare innit? x
  93. coley144

    Only lost 1lb

The reason people have large losses the first week on Exante is because they don't eat any carbs. If you ate 'normal' food at the weekend then you've had carbs. If you want to lose faster then you'll need to limit carbs. Some do this by just having the shakes. Others (like me) just have a tiny...

I have an underactive thyroid as well. You can lose weight but you need to be more determined. I've been dieting for 5 years now!!! But I've lost quite a bit. Just stick to it and you will get there. But don't compare your losses to others as it'll just annoy you.

I was drawn to respond to your thread because of the title. If you 'know' you will fail you will. All it takes it to change your mindset. You CAN do this so you WILL. Lots of people do VLCD's. Your calorie level is super low there! I'd suggest starting much higher than that. If you start higher then, when you hit a plateau, you can drop down. If you start low there is nowhere to go. Also if you eat 1000 or under your metabolism will slow right down...which means you'll struggle to...

If I lost at a normal rate..or a near normal rate I could stay on it but I lost 5 pounds in the last month...and that just insulting! So I'm trying 1000 cals, low carb for a month or so to avoid the big weight rise from carbs. So far I've lost 2 pounds already! I went to the gym this morning...

Thanks Porgeous that's a good idea! I might give that a go later. Since coming off CD I've dropped 2 pounds so something must be going right somewhere!

    Avoiding the glycogen bump

I'm concerned that the soya in the packs is affecting my thyroid which is why I've come off it. My metabolism collapses on Cambridge...far more than average. In the last 4 weeks I've lost 5 pounds on Cambridge SS+ and my thyroid meds have had to go up. I'm hoping that if I come off it my thyroid...

    Scared!

I've lost 8 stone and my boobs are still ok. They do look a bit wrinkly if I bend forward but the answer is not to do that naked! Would I rather be fatter and have my huge boobies back? Not for a second.

    Avoiding the glycogen bump

Ok thanks KD. My worry was that as I'm not doing any Cambridge shakes but just doing my own version of 1000 cals I might be too high in carbs.

    Avoiding the glycogen bump

I've really not been clear have I? I want to restore my glycogen stores- I just don't want the bump in weight that comes from doing it fast. I want my weight to carry on going downwards. Over Christmas I came off Cambridge for 3 days and put on 13 pounds! I really, REALLY don't want that to...

    Avoiding the glycogen bump

Hi Katycakes..yes that's exactly what I mean. Sorry I obviously didn't explain myself properly. I want to carry on losing. I know it's going to be slower..I just don't want a massive bump upwards to then lose as well. I'm intending on staying on 1000 til I hit my goal...it's just a case of how...

Hi I'm moving up to 1000 cals as CD isn't making my body very happy. I want to avoid the glycogen bump if possible so I'm eating low-ish carb. Typical days diet Yoghurt, strawberries and raspberries Apple Soup (tomato with some adzuki beans), spoonful cottage cheese Mandarin Orange Chicken...

    Over 100lb to lose??

Some people lose the same amount every week on CD. Some people don't. I never have lost steadily but all those 1 pounds then 3 pounds add up over time.

Water does help fill you up for sure. I'm up 3 pounds at the moment (TOTM) so one pound down would be heaven for me! It does fluctuate along the way. Very rarely do people lose 3 pound every week but you get there in the end.

How can i get Determination and willpower to lose weight?

I just don't give myself a choice. I am on the diet so I am on it. There is no choice. It does make things easier! The other thing I do is just keeping going. If I do slip (which I don't often due to the no choice thing) then I just get straight back on the wagon. Lastly I dealt with the...

who fell pregnant whilst ss'ing on cd???

So when you found out you were pregnant you all came off CD instantly? Did you work up the plans or just go straight to normal eating? Did you have a glycogen gain?
  236. coley144

    Complacency

Or you could work up the plans until you get to one you can stick to then lose the weight on that. It'll be slower but maybe less painful. I came off CD March time last year and moved to a calorie controlled diet (after working through the plans). I carried on losing.

CD, changing more than just our clothes size?

I have found the same. I did CD until March last year then worked up the stages to 1200 cals (as I was still trying to lose). My tastes were totally different than they were before and I appreciated 'normal' food much more....rather than just wanting what I call party food. So yes hunger does...
