Can you weigh yourself too much??

If you weigh yourself everyday. record it then work out a weekly average. That should take care of the the fluctuations. After a month the 4 weekly averages will give you a true indication of your progress.

    Welcome Back!

Hi all. I was going to go to the Gym tonight. I didn't bother in the end as I couldn't find the motivation to drag myself out on a cold wet windy November evening. I logged onto my computer instead and there in my e-mail inbox was the e-mail from you saying that you're back. I logged back in...

How should I start off running?

Make sure you've got a good pair of running shoes. Also recommend gel heel inserts to go inside them. Running is high impact on the ankles and knees. The gel heels cushion the impact on these areas. Don't overdo it if you've not run before. Start off gradually and build it up a bit at a time.

    Insanity

Further to my previous post I was 53 obese and hadn't done any exercise for 25-30 years when I started my weight loss journey. So the slow gradual way was definitely the best and most sensible route for me. Rich did insanity and Shaun T and achieved his ideal weight (well done), just quicker...

    Insanity

Hi Sara / Rich There is an old saying "You can't out exercise a bad diet" to put it in perspective a cheeseburger and a pint of lager are approx 850 calories. It takes over an hour non stop at a fast pace on a rowing machine just to burn those two items off. So to lose weight effectively...

How did you get motivation to take over the "sofa" habbit???

You'll be surprised how many calories you actually lose doing housework and running up and down stairs. you are increasing your N.E.A.T. (Non exercise activity thermogenesis). basically it's the amount of movement you do during your normal day. Everything from going up stairs to housework to...

    really embarrassing...but need some advice

As mentioned earlier walk, walk, & walk again. That's how I started and i've never looked back. Try to walk at a speed that makes you out of breath when you talk and makes you feel hot. Look at 10,000 step exercise programmes on the internet. 10,000 steps is a magic number (approx 5 miles)...

Does slim / skinny still look good on a woman over 40?

Stick with it. It's never to late. It will be worth it in the end. I'm 54 and my weight is now what it was in my teens. Losing the weight I have has made me feel and look younger. So losing weight does sort of turn the clock back a bit. Somebody at work guessed my age the other day at 48 and...

impatience with the weight loss but in it for life (i know it)

If you look on the forum "Challenges, Weightloss & Otherwise" and then the thread "How to give up sweets". I've posted a couple of replies about the "Blood sugar cycle" and the "G.I. Index". This explains how we get sugar cravings and how to alleviate them. I'm not trying to be a "know all"...

    how to give up sweets?

Part two of my original thread that i lost. "Glycaemic Index (G.I.Index)" - The G.I.Index is a ranking of carbohydrate foods based on their potential to raise blood sugars levels. Causing the blood sugar spikes mentioned in "the blood sugar cycle" The higher the G.I. scores of a food, The...

    how to give up sweets?

How to give up sweets If you want to stop sugar cravings then you need to understand what causes them and how you can make dietary changes to alleviate them. Two things that will help you do this and there is lots of information on the internet about them are learning about "The Blood Sugar...

    Hi i'm new

Hi Lynn I have but with hindsight the best thing I did was get help and advice early on. Be it a forum like this. Weight watchers, Slimming World or in my case through Fitfans. to know your not on your own is a great help. To learn what foods are good or bad, When and how much to eat. The...

    Hi i'm new

Because fitfans did so well in Hull it was rolled out in alot of other towns and cities. While fitfans was aimed at men they also had a course for women called "Your Shape" which ran the same way for 12 weeks with the talk followed by an exercise session. I think the ladies exercises were more...

    Hello! I'm new here :-)

Hi Muso_Girl You kindly replied to my introduction thread. I've sent you a long reply but they won't put it on the board until the moderator has approved it. That was hours ago and it still hasn't appeared. I think they must think i'm a dodgy character. I joined the board on 02.05.14. They...

Thank you for your reply. I found starting on Jan 1st was very good as it gave me a fixed starting point. I know exactly how much i've lost and how long its taken me. I was lucky enough to join a free 12 week course run by the NHS in conjunction with Hull City Football Club called "Fitfans"...
