    Really struggling , upset tummy

That's the way. The only way I could go through the diet was week to week, any longer was too much of a challenge. Been a while but I remember a similar issue in about week 2 or 3, but soon passed (excuse the pun). Stick with it Andy, you know you're worth putting the effort in & the...

    January 2009 - Starters

HI JB Great to hear from you. Your story is not unusual TBH I think we all put some weight on it's just a matter of how much we 'allow' ourselves before taking control, then getting into a routine that keeps the Peaks & Troughs at manageable/acceptable levels. Please don't anyone think that...

    January 2009 - Starters

Hi Daisy, Seriously, you don't wish to turn back time. Life's too short to have regrets, live for today & enjoy tomorrow, reflect & learn from yesterday (or something like that). I'm actually really good thanks. Like everyone I've gained weight from my lightest and I'm about 10lb bigger than...

    Foodpack flavours?

HI Min I'm an occational browser rather than poster these days. Sorry to hear of your trials & tribulations but really pleased you're back on-track. I hope it's a smoother ride for you than last time. I'm good, thanks. A little bigger than I'd really like, but only ~ 10lb off my 'ideal' and...

    Wakey wakey RTM board!!!

Quite prescriptive in the early weeks of RTM, so any dips I tended to make myself (but then I was too controlling). Keep low fat/sugar and low carb though and you'll be OK

I would like to say Hello.

Welcome Charltonjules, I'm more a lurker than poster these days but felt compelled to echo sentiments above. Your choice to lose weight, your decision on how to do that best. Doctors should be pleased that we take control (and don't become a burden on the NHS). Mine were similarly...

    Feelig a bit confused!

Some really good advice above. There is no failure, just learning experiences which some of us have to take again and again before we finally 'get it'. I think it's easy on the VLCDs to lose, and easy to see the few people who hang around and have maintained and to assume that keeing the...

    Sean's Dukan Dip

Hellooo fellow DDers. Well after last weekend (esp Sunday), I've had my nose to the Protein Trough and been very focussed with the hope of negating any damage done. Pleased to report at the end of week 4 a 1lb loss, which I'm very happy with as really 3/7 of the week I was seriously 'off...

Awesome weekend, thanks for asking. Won't go into detail but was fairly 'restrained' on Friday (despite very long & expensive lunch lasting all afternoon). Why didn't they say anything?!

Morning AJB and to echo the congratulations on your fabulous losses so far - you should feel very proud of what you have achieved. Daisy hit the nail on the head but it is also true that many people genuinely don't see your "size" just your personality. I was equally gutted when I'd lost ~ 3...

    Sean's Dukan Dip

Odd that I haven't had any 'cravings' but the URGE to eat someting sweet/Carby has slowly grown through this week - I can only assume its because I know I'm allowing myself some leeway whilst away over the weekend. Mind you I will NOT eat carbs unnecessarily (lol) :) Decent day Wednesday, but...

    Official weekly weigh in.

Well done Laura and welcome mummyyum. Weigh-in week 3 (a little early as rushing away tomorrow) and 3lb loss :) Happy as that's nicely within my comfort zone for the weekend. So a little debauchery in the 'big smoke' over the weekend then back to Dukan on Monday with a vengence.
  27. Sean(JSF)

    Sean's Dukan Dip

Going to bed early is my top mechanism, as it's only in the evenings that I graze, or binge, or 'swig'; so an early night before temptations can strike is very effective. Don't 'want' to do it every night though. So Tuesday was PP day 2 for the week and suprisingly easy tbh. I think the...
  28. Sean(JSF)

    bad bad week

If it's variety that you crave then I'd suggest you alternate strictly between PP and PV days, there's loads that can be done on the PV days and choice and variety of veg available is massive if you switch around. I know what you mean though as I usually have 'similar meals' because its...

    Sean's Dukan Dip

Phew, back to normality and the working week. Sunday was generally good but I did have a 'drink' before dinner (was offered at parents' and would be rude to decline), but went to bed early to avoid further temptations. Monday back on track, egg, then gallette & meat, and stir-fry chicken and...

LOL My 'true weight' has been fairly stable on the Dukan web site, but I hadn't noticed that it knocks 4 inches off my height when I hit calculate so actually it's giving me a few extra lbs to play with. I'm the same re weight though as the only time I've been near stable weight-wise was at...

Nice one Pete, glad you had a great time & excellent weight loss as well :)
  34. Sean(JSF)

    Dukan Website ?

Definately not - I find the Dukan site a waste of time, more a sales site than anything of genuine use (although the 'true weight' is interesting - everytime I try it changes). Certainly wouldn't pay for internet "coaching" (if such a thing is possible).

    Ending Emotional Eating

Great article and good thread. On the emotional eating side, RTM definately helps as you are dealing with real food, not just packs - Abstinence really is like a cocoon sheltering you from so many feelings and challenges that RTM introduces you to in a gentle, controlled way. Post RTM and in...

    RTM?

To echo above comments really - there is no hard & fast rule of weight loss on RTM. I lost ll the way through but that's unusual. A quick question for the experts please Is Quinoa (Keen Wah) allowed on Dukan? the book is silent on the issue which makes me think it's not BUT although it is a vegetable it is almost 100% protein and very low carbohydrate. This was permitted early on in LL RTM (when still v low carbs)...

At last a GOOD weekend :) Friday: + low carb breakfast, walked (1hr) - out for lunch & ate soup & steamed fish - wine in the evening (but much less than last week) Saturday: + 2hr walk, low carb + low fat breakfast & lunch, low cab dinner - a little wine (2 glasses only so really that's a +)...

    Hello from a minimins newbie

Hi Gibby, welcome to minimins & congratulations on your successes to date. Posters on here (new & old) are all very friendly & happy to give any help or advice needed :)

Learning to stay Thin Inside and Out

Going well TI & I echo Morticia's advice - I was a right pain at times in RTM and didn't take anything that wasn't as I'd ordered. I'm sure you'll have a great meal & it's a real pleasure to be able to take part fully in social 'eating' again :)

    January 2009 - Starters

Good Friday food wise 2 x walks on Friday Bad Friday for wine (but then went to bed early so didn't 'pick' at the Kids goodies after coming home) :) Saturday only 1 walk :( No wine :) healthy food day :) Did however 'indulge' in some sweet nasties :( Sunday - poor food day (bacon, roast, roast...

T_I I posted on the Jan thread but wanted to join you in RTM as well :) You've been so supportive of me & others through RTM whilst you've quietly got on with abstinence without fuss or complaint, you are indeed a STAR. Hi Louale & SIIM Great to hear from you both although I'm sorry things haven't worked out quite the way either of you would have wanted. Have a good read of the Boards & you'll soon see that all of the Jan Starters have had our personal demons to face, and are still battling on an (almost)...

    Arggghhh!!!...... and breathe

Good on you Daisy, sounds like a very sensible conclusion to come to & if being on the packs has helped in your thought process then I'm really pleased for you. It is a struggle isn't it? But then no one said it was going to be easy - after all if it was easy for us we wouldn't have needed to...

OK, some good: Healthy portion controlled breakfast fruit for lunch had salad instead of pasta with Spag Bol with family (they still think I'm strange) Bad: No exercise for 24hrs! Did succumb to a choccie biscuit with coffee!

thinking of going back on packs...

:hmm: WOW Mini Me - you're tall!!!! 13' 8" - with a BMI of 4.9 I'm amazed you eligible for LL - lol
  119. Sean(JSF)

    Terrified of RTM!!

Perfectly normal reaction to the challenge that is RTM. It's a huge leap mentally but if you stick to the rules throughout RTM you won't go far wrong. Like others I found the restrictions each week somewhat comforting and was possibly too rigid about following them. Trust me by the end of week...

thinking of going back on packs...

Hi Daisy, PS & Anders Well as I said before it's sorely tempting to go back on packs but my heart just isn't in it. I'm currently 12st 12lb which I should be delighted at as goat was 14st, but realistically it's 13lb more than my lightest and I feel "big". Like PS wine is my BIG downfall and...

Hmm difficult position to be in - I'm in exactly the same place myself. Don't have an answer for you I'm afraid, personally I want to stick at (semi) healthy eating for a month or so & see if I can shift a few lbs as don't want to run back to LL every time I have a couple of 'bad' weeks, it...

    Need to exercise

Hey Ralph. I walked (and still do), started with 20mins per day and increased over time until I was averaging 1 hr per day by the time I got into RTM. No problems whatsoever, but do walk at a brisk pace. I don't think you can avoid saggy skin completely but I've been pretty lucky :)
  128. Sean(JSF)

    Old habits........

Good thread and very valid points! I still really struggle with not just ploughing in (and sometimes fail abysmally), but it's a learning experience for us all I guess. Hi T_I yes, a 'blip' - I know it must be frustrating especially as you've been on abstinence for soooo long now, but think about it - so you've had 4 or 5 packs a couple of times - so what? That's an extra 125 - 250 KCals per day, still well below 1,000 and no where near enough carbs to knock...

    January 2009 - Starters

Big UP Jan starters ^^^ Wot was said above ^^^ I think we ALL face challenges post RTM, in many ways actually 'doing' the diet was the easy part (and reinforced by the positive comments we receive when losing weight), the hard task is when flying 'solo' as we've no real experience of that from...

    Just wondering

Weird isn't it! I guess our mental image still isn't 100% adjusted to our actual body shape/size (although at least I no longer get surprised at my own reflection/shadow) however the whole food side of this experience is a strange one and slightly worrying! Take Friday for example, I'd had...

Feelgood vitamins in packs: how to maintain them post-LL?

Re the feelings of 'wellness' I can honestly say that right through RTM and beyond (even to today), I still have the same energy and general spring in my step that I enjoyed on abstinance. I'm still drinking a LOT of water, and don't 'do' caffeine at all. Some alcohol (mostly at weekends and...

Exactly the right attitude M81, and don't be surprised if you do take the plunge if you find you actually SAVE money on LL compared to everything you spend at the moment - I did & I know others have too. Nothing more to add re Pro & Con than hasn't already been said :)

Minerva; Confessions of a Food Addict.

That's better MIn, sorry to hear of your continued struggles but we both know you've got it within you to beat these particular demons. How about having a couple of handfuls of dried fruit and/or nuts throughout the day, will increase calories in a good way without increasing the 'volume' of food.
  153. Sean(JSF)

    RTM losses?

I lost throughout, as you can see, but was too obsessive with portions and mix of foods (didn't especially follow the triggers either). Post RTM have eaten entirely 'normally' and regained ~ 10lb (but been stable now for past 5 weeks) which I suspect was really glycogen & water weight that I...

  155. Sean(JSF)

    Well, well, well

Despite my personal reservations (see fraud thread), I've just had a call from LLC and she wants to give me an award at the Annual Dinner in October. Blimey, that's really thrown my mental images upside down! Now then, do I try & lose.....[no, stop it just be happy] :)
  156. Sean(JSF)

    I Feel Like a Fraud

It's good to know it's not just me Daisy! Still doesn't make it easier to explain. I guess as time passes this all gets easier, our memory of 'big me' fades, and also 'tiny me' I assume... Is there a stage when you're just 'me'?

    I Feel Like a Fraud

Thanks Ladies, I knew you'd understand and knock some sense into me. I still feel strange when I get the compliments, had a great one this morning as I'm casually dressed at the office and one of my Team was effusive in her praise. I feel the need to tell people that not only am I no longer...
  158. Sean(JSF)

    I Feel Like a Fraud

OK, I know this is daft, but I'm getting 'wobbly' in the Real World. Anyone who's read my blog on RTM will know that I got into a 'routine' of continued weight loss throughout, and actually had to work on maintaining rather than continuing to lose. All was good until holiday (having STS for...

    Decision about RTM

Yo Jo Sounds to me like you're ready to move onto the next stage. I don't think any of us actually look like we're expecting to (but then years of abusing our bodies is bound to take a toll, there's no way just losing weight will make us look like we did when we were 20!) lol. At the end of...

  162. Sean(JSF)

    January 2009 - Starters

Great plan T_I, I know a lot of people who have focussed on a time to move to RTM rather than a weight - that's what I did and I found it was like having a weight lifted once I had set the date, good decision. As BL says the time will fly past now & I'm confident that you'll reach goal by then...

  165. Sean(JSF)

    January 2009 - Starters

Chill T_I. I have nothing but the utmost respect for you having stuck with it this long, and a gain of any sort must be truly frustrating, but you KNOW there's no-way it's fat. It's natural you question your motivation as you get nearer to goal, and doubly so with everything that's happened in...
  166. Sean(JSF)

Did Abstinence make the real difference for you?

Same as BL - I avoided 'social' events for the first 5-6 weeks but once I'd lost a bit of weight & knew I was enjoying abstinence rather than any feelings of depravation I was more than happy to go out etc just didn't eat/drink. Not a big deal it was just what I was doing for that short phase of...
  167. Sean(JSF)

Did Abstinence make the real difference for you?

YES YES YES YES and YES Everything that the good ladies above have said. I would NOT have lost anywhere near the weight without abstinence. In honesty I didn't even know I had 'issues' around food, but being away from it has certainly forced me to reconsider my relationship with food...

  170. Sean(JSF)

    Morticia's Musings

Hi Morticia Strikes me that you're doing fine. We all go through internal struggles at various times in RTM. Remember that on abstinence you're hardly eating anything so as you introduce more food groups it's a shock to the mind (mostly) that you have to overcome. Trust me when I say that in...

Quiet on here isn't it! - (or Sean's RTM Journey)

Thanks all for the kind comments. Maintaining isn't going to be 'easy' as BL says, it will take constant attention, and action when things look to be slipping. BUT That's normal. Everyone has some degree of awareness of their weight, even 'naturally thin' people are aware when they put on a few...

Cheers Daisy, REALLY enjoyed the Holiday and have struggled to get back into any sort of 'normal' routine these past 8 days food wise. However, despite a BBQ on Sunday (when I drank too much - but only wine, no beer), and indulged in a pudding. And a 50th Birthday on Saturday - 3 pints of water...

    Oops I did it again!

LOL - have to concur even us chaps can get the clothes shopping 'bug'. Still amazes me to buy Medium (and some Small) sizes and 32-34" trousers is a dream compared to the 46" limited choice before. Really enjoy clothes shopping and always hated it before :) Not telling about the lacy...

Back to the food side of things!

    Tempus fugit

Well done Brummy, congratulations on reaching the end of this stage in the journey, as others have said now begins the real work. Daisy's food log...

Precisely. Weight gain will be glycogen and should not worry you (although I KNOW that's easier said than done). I'd not try & avoid food groups as long-term that will simply not be possible. It is a challenge and we all fall along the way (I guess something we have to be aware of for...

    It's time ....

Sounds pretty good to me Mel - I wouldn't beat yourself up on the whole you've made good choices and stayed in control. RTM isn't 'perfect' in the same was abstinence is as your facing daily challenges and choices. Looks to me like you're getting along fine :)

  187. Sean(JSF)

    Here as I am...

Hi Ls, welcome to LL & minimins. I started on 2 Jan and had info session on 27 Dec so had the Christmas festivities before starting. Can't say I loaded-up any more than normal, but then at that time of year is difficult to know! Good luck with sticking to the plan this time, you'll be fine.
  188. Sean(JSF)

Questions - Salad & Chilli Sauce

Mel - I used a hot chili sauce for spice, but also the sweet chili dipping sauce (especially with prawns etc), can't say huge quantities so couldn't see the harm either way. Salad portions should be whatever you 'feel' is right, but no guidance. Some say a desert bowl full is about right but I...
  189. Sean(JSF)

    Anybody used quinoa?

Quinoa - wonderful stuff, never tried before RTM but really like it now. As daisy says just experiment with it :)

Hi Em Sorry you're going through a tough time & in pain :( Hope recovery starts soone
  191. Sean(JSF)

    Daisy's food log...

Hi Daisy I think you know your weakness by now. The question is going to be how do you cope around cakes, obviously not trying to avoid them but control your eating? Planning is always the best, but I can see that's not always possible. Don't worry about the comments (I don't think you are)...
  192. Sean(JSF)

    It's time ....

Welcome Mel, RTM is exciting if you have any questions please ask away Good luck :)
  193. Sean(JSF)

    Does LL make you grumpy?

I was lovely right through the diet (at least that's my opinion), I was a little irritable over the last week or so though when fully back in the 'real' World. Maybe I'm the exception to this rule...
  194. Sean(JSF)

    January 2009 - Starters

Woo Hoo susianna - you're RTM losses are even better than mine!! It's great to know you have the control around food though isn't it, and congratulations on going solo (I know what you mean as I didn't feel I belonged in the groups for the last few weeks of RTM, and skipped a few myself)...
  195. Sean(JSF)

Minerva; Confessions of a Food Addict.

Good luck Min - but I have confidence you really don't need luck :) Holidays are meant to be enjoyed and naturally involves excess for many of us. Whilst unpleasant, the 'pain' will have been good for you and prevented too much damage and wanting to continue the overeating when you got home...

    self - sabotage?

Had to re-post. On re-reading the thread both Daisy & Iris have hit the proverbial nail on the head. I've been feeling a little 'down' over the past couple of weeks and had put it down to waiting to go on holiday (we've usually gone by now). However, chatting to my wife last night I realised...

    Help please...

Thanks for the comments, up to 12 in a Group (depends on LLC I think - our Men's group has fluctuated between 10 & 2 ), all discussions in an open format, always something that comes up from others that you can recognise in yourself.
  204. Sean(JSF)

    Help please...

Weekly meetings ~90 minutes but that includes time for weigh-in & collect packs etc. General discussion in group I found most motivating & looked forward to the weekly meetings. CBT/TA was also good when we did it. I can't imagine that I'd have stayed with the plan as long without the regular...
  205. Sean(JSF)

    Help please...

Me too - meetings & CBT were decisive factor in making the LL decision. BUT - YOU still need to put the effort in & stick to the plan!
  206. Sean(JSF)

What effect did RTM have on your weight?

See stats below for my weight losses - I was VERY strict with myself on portion sizes and food choices in the first 5-6 weeks though. I think Anders is right that Men tend to continue to lose (my theory being that the RTM portions are aimed at Ladies and as chaps need a higher KCal intake then...

    Starting RTM today

    Welcome aboard Anders

    self - sabotage?

Now now Daisy, calm down. You're not sabotaging yourself at all, just coming to terms with the rest of your life! There, I've said it. The reality is that you cannot spend your entire life being 'good' all the time, we're only Human and that means we have 'weaknesses' and must allow ourselves...

    Daisy's food log...

To echo BC - great work Daisy, you sound well in control and on top of choices. Bet the WI wasn't as 'bad' as you thought!

Quiet on here isn't it! - (or Sean's RTM Journey)

Hi Daisy - it really is quiet on here, but I guess that's the way in the Summer as everyone is off doing their own thing! Glad to hear you're OK and getting to terms with the more 'relaxed' approach to RTM that I think is an absolute necessity. I think if you're too rigid with the rules then...

    Interesting article on BMI

Great Article, thanks for posting & reinforces what I've always believed to be true (so must be good) :)

I'm Back - Week 1 flying Solo Helloo RTMers As promised I'm back - I've found it quite difficult not to post TBH, but it's now been 7 days since I started flying Solo away from the warm embrace of LL. The first thing I did was put all my spare packs & bars away in a Tupperware box at the back...

Don't be disheartened T_I you're still losing weight which is the aim after all! It's not a race, but the rest of your life to enjoy being slim :) Keep at it & loving the positive attitude.

    Your hopes for July?

Nice thread, my hopes for July: To not lose any more weight To not put on more than 3-4 lbs To remain healthy & free of Summer bugs Not to obsess about holiday Stop counting days Stop counting calories

Minerva; Confessions of a Food Addict.

Glad you've posted again Min. I like the lyrics and to a (small) degree can sympathise with the conflicting desires of over/under eating. Too much control is just as damaging as too little as you well know. The 'problem' is that we have compulsive personalities and control can too easily be a...

Quiet on here isn't it! - (or Sean's RTM Journey)

LOL Thanks Mel :) Daisy, I could NEVER presume to step into such illustrious shoes as SB and BL !!! But no, I don't intend on disappearing from Minimins, it's been too much a part of my life for the last 6 months to let go so easily. I am however going to make a conscious effort NOT to post a...
  224. Sean(JSF)

    glycogen and other questions...?

Yup, 3,500 KCal for a lb of fat. Daisy - it's quite possible that by week 5 you've already restored most/all of your glycogen, sometimes it's not a dramatic effect (certainly wasn't with me), but if not any weight gain from one day of fairy cakes is likely to be glycogen & attached water...

Indeed, at least week 5 RTM introduces alcohol - always helps on holiday :)
  230. Sean(JSF)

Quiet on here isn't it! - (or Sean's RTM Journey)

Ah, well that's a really good question. My feeling was that I would lose a little on RTM as the portions etc are geared towards Ladies who require less KCal than us chaps daily. As a result sticking closely to the first 4-5 weeks should have meant another 7-8lb losses. In reality as you can see...

Quiet on here isn't it! - (or Sean's RTM Journey)

LOL Daisy, that's very kind of you. In my job I get to meet clients every day who haven't seen me for 6 months + and its a continuing pleasure to have their jaws drop and expressions of bewiderment cross their faces. Many have said that they would not have believed it is me if I hadn't talked to...

Quiet on here isn't it! - (or Sean's RTM Journey)

OMG T_I I really, really hope so. I do feel that I am 'overly' analytical at the moment and the thought that it doesn't get any easier is a little disconcerting to be honest. That said though already I am aware of automatically making better decisions, and also stopping myself from 'picking'...

    Question about length of Foundation

That's exactly the way the Mens' groups work with all stages mixed together - I think it's more to do with the smaller numbers than anything else, but works OK. I had heard that all the groups were moving in the same way, as this provides much more flexibility for the LLC

Minerva; Confessions of a Food Addict.

Sorry to see you're struggling Min, but getting used to our bodies and feelings is bound to take time. We've been 'slim' for such a short time when compared to how long we were overweight (or in my case at least) that it's natural to take time to adjust. Whatever shape, size, etc etc we are...

LOL Min, thanks for the comments and booze is definitely my Achilles heal - but I know that and can work around it. I certainly won't be avoiding wine (especially on hols in the middle of a huge wine making region & village), but will try & be as conscious as possible (literally) about...

You're right Min, I'm just working my way through the RTM weeks in order, however saying that I didn't follow 'staples' week religiously so why kid myself? Bread week starts today & I'm going out for lunch so 'may' have a wrap, or 'may' have croutons on my salad - I'll see how I feel! Actually...

Thanks Em, I know you're right and to a small degree it is already getting easier as I now automatically look for healthier options on menu before looking at the higher fat, where as previously I didn't even notice that healthier options were available. Also pleased to report that my love affair...

    LL in the news...

Tish - ANY weight loss program that charges is open to allegations of 'ripping people off' - what about WW where some people literally spend YEARS shedding the same couple of pounds - or is this somehow more socially acceptable. And Who Cares about the shape/size of the LL founders? One thing...
  245. Sean(JSF)

Quiet on here isn't it! - (or Sean's RTM Journey)

Cheers T_I, I have to keep questioning myself to stay focussed and conscious about what I consume, and I anticipate that this will be teh case over many months (years) to come. Which I'm cool with actually, pre LL the thought of 'thinking' about everything was horrendous and I couldn't concieve...

Minerva; Confessions of a Food Addict.

Looking like better KCal intake Min, you seem to have turned the corner on portions/calories. Keep it up you're working your way through teh early jitters and coming to a sustainable compromise.

    Prawns

Loads of prawn recipes on my early week blog :) I LOVE prawns and have missed them these past 2-3 weeks as I've been eating with the family again (I'm the only one who likes prawns) but I'm fending for myself again tonight so Prawn stir-fry here I come :) :)

    Newbie to LL

Hi Bubbles and welcome to LL At the end of your 14 weeks on abstinence you have the choice to continue on full packs (called developers) or start to introduce food in RTM. If you have more weight to lose than Developers is the way, this effectively means 4 packs per day and the same £66 weekly...

    bored

Felt exactly the same way in week 2-3. Passata etc was a big help for me. Also increasing range of fruit & veg helped significantly. Food shouldn't be boring, there's a huge World of flavours and textures out there you just need to experiment with things that otherwise you'd not try. Don't be...

lol - looks worse than it was, 3 course dinner but actually all fairly small portions (except the wine which is still a weakness of mine :) ) and being mostly fish still low fat & cal - well it could have been significantly worse. I've added butter & cream as they will have been used in cooking...
