    Any Weight Watchers Cookbook Recommendations?

I absolutely love the big grey cookbook - I think it's called "The Ultimate Kitchen" or something like that. Everything I've tried from it has been lovely, our favourites are the Sage & Onion Toad in the Hole, Ham and Cheese Bread Pudding (this doesn't sound much but is AMAZING), the Chunky...

    Lunch Ideas

Thank you guys :) I think soup was something I hadn't really considered. No trouble at all to chuck a can of soup and a roll in my bag in the morning and then nuke it at lunchtime. Ideal for winter too. Thank you, really. I knew there was something obvious I hadn't thought of :) xx

    Lunch Ideas

Struggling :( Lunch ideas please? Hi everyone. I'm struggling a little bit at the moment. Life is completely, ridiculously busy and I'm finding it very hard to stick to my ppoints simply because I never know what to have for lunch. I have no problem with breakfasts, I have about 3 standard...

    Surprising or shocking pro-point finds....

I think I'm going to check this one with my leader this week, every single bit of reference material I can lay my hands on says 6 points for a standard one and 8 for a duo. :( If all their books/esource/iPhone app etc are wrong, they need to know. Sent from my iPhone using MiniMins
  6. LadyHelen

    Surprising or shocking pro-point finds....

Standard 50g size Double Decker are definitely 6! Either that or my iPhone app, the shopping guide and eSource are all wrong. :) It's the big "Duo" ones that are 8.

Hey, that's what you're here for :) Hang in there, from the look of things youu've done so well already, just keep doing what you're doing. You can make a lot of difference in 10 weeks - and it has to be said, there's a bright side - if you don't fit into that dress by then, it's a fabulous...

    Propoints v points - newbie

I never did the old plan (well, not since the idea of points first came about around 15 years ago) so I can't comment on that, but I'm loving the new plan. It's absolutely the most flexible and practical weight loss plan I've ever used, I'd recommend it to anyone.

    Newbie

Hi and welcome! The thing that helped me the most early on and still does is the "Eating Out" guide. It's a perfect size to chuck in your handbag and has ppoints for eating out, everything from restaurants to pubs to places like McDonalds and even sandwiches from Boots/Tescos etc. It really...

Mmm... I keep hearing people talking about these 'square wrap' things - how are they different from the ordinary Mission wrap things?
  15. LadyHelen

    Lunch Ideas

Very unexciting today - I'm fighting off an evil dose of 'man-flu' so it was a prepacked sandwich from Tescos which I had in the fridge, a can of diet coke and a Twirl. Thank god for weekly points!
  16. LadyHelen

    Pasta & Spaghetti

Yep, exactly the same - pasta is pasta, and spaghetti is just pasta. :)
  17. LadyHelen

    do you use your weeklies??

I've used all of mine every week so far - lost 5.5lb the first week, gained 0.5lb the second week and then lost 4lb this week. I'm keeping on doing what I'm doing. :D

    Where is your class?

Something we did over on the Slimming World side of the boards when I was there and I thought it would be nice to do it here too was to have a thread for people who want to to post which group they go to - just on the lucky offchance of finding someone else who goes to the same group! Weight watchers food

We've found some of the cooking sauces to be quite nice, both the Tikka one and the Sweet and Sour one went down very well with boh me and hubby. Other than that I don't really tend to buy WW stuff much - as someone else said further up, I'd rather have a smaller quantity of higher-point stuff...
  22. LadyHelen

    WW wraps ok for freezing?

I agree with Felix - I would maybe interleave them with greaseproof paper/baking parchment or something like that.

Just remembering doing the Wendy plan way back when, before the "Discover Plan" was even called that - back when it was still "123 Success"... god that was a laugh! :8855: I have this recollection of getting through a day (somehow) on 12 points once. Not an experience I would choose to repeat...

Working out your weight watchers points

Just a warning Aminah, this is seriously out of date information! This thread is three years old, if you look at the post before yours it's dated July 2008. The plan has changed a great deal since then. If you have a look at the "sticky" threads at the top of the forum you'll get up to date...

Hi Helen :) All the best people are called Helen ;) You certainly won't be alone in doing this with a medical problem! I have epilepsy, polycystic ovarian syndrome, fibromyalgia and a prolapsed disc in my back, so it's all fun :) Time doesn't allow me to post here as much as I'd like to...

    WHAT EXERCISE are you doing?

At the moment I swim for about 45 minutes twice a week and walk the mile to work both days that I'm at work, plus whatever walking happens naturally on the basis that I can't drive and the buses aren't brilliant!
  29. LadyHelen

  32. LadyHelen

how did you pick your user name

Helen is my real name, and I added the "Lady" part in honour of a character in one of my favourite series of books - the "Callahans" series by Spider Robinson has a character called Lady Sally who kicks some serious arse :D

How to 'spice up' a Pasta & Sauce?

I love the tomato and herb one on a jacket spud with a HE worth of grated parmesan on it, it's fab. Also with the cheese and broccoli one, it sounds obvious but chuck more broccoli in with it - just some chopped fresh florets :)
  34. LadyHelen

And it was all going so well.

Ive been sooo bad for 2 days-sob

  37. LadyHelen

    Hello

    Welcome! :wavey:
  38. LadyHelen

Does it matter what you wear?

I have to agree with everyone else, it doesn't matter what you wear as long as it's the same (or similar) every week. I wear the same pair of trousers and one of half a dozen tops that are all the same but different colours. One class I used to go to, a woman came to get weighed on her way...

    gutted by my mistake :(

Danone Activia yogurts. Mum bought the ordinary ones instead of the fat free ones when I was over there last time and didn't notice until I'd eaten two in a day (once at lunch and one at dinner). 7 syns right there! :sigh: You live and learn!
  40. LadyHelen

And it was all going so well.

I don't know what I want from this post exactly as there's no help for me practically. Tea and sympathy I guess. Like the title says, it was all going so well. Was. Two weeks ago I got my stone and a half award, and I was so happy that I was nearly glowing. And then we've had a sudden...

Diet Coke - a word of warning!

I'd heard this too Elizabeth, I have a feeling Dad's diabetes nurse told him the same thing. All things considered I think I might just be better off staying off the stuff as far as possible!
  43. LadyHelen

Diet Coke - a word of warning!

I really don't like the cheaper ones to be honest, I think I'm better off not drinking it at all if I can avoid it, other than special occasions, when I go out for lunch with the girls etc.
  44. LadyHelen

Diet Coke - a word of warning!

    Thanks hon :)
  45. LadyHelen

Diet Coke - a word of warning!

Here's hoping I do too! And I've found that too with Diet Coke on the continent -pretty much everywhere I've been, France, Spain, Canary Islands, there's been a weird taste to it.
  46. LadyHelen

Diet Coke - a word of warning!

No, unfortunately Zero has the caffeine too. :( The only one that doesn't is the labelled caffeine-free stuff.
  47. LadyHelen

Diet Coke - a word of warning!

Thanks :) Giving up the booze wasn't voluntary (I developed epilepsy when I was 25 and the medication doesn't play well with alcohol) but the other stuff was. And I do feel better for it!
  48. LadyHelen

Diet Coke - a word of warning!

Oh dear, god knows what they put in it then! :(
  49. LadyHelen

    passata

Yep. Before I discovered passata I used to have to liquidise my chopped tomatoes for recipes because hubby can't stand lumps of tomato! It works fine, it's perhaps not as tomatoey but other than that you'll barely notice the difference.
  50. LadyHelen

Diet Coke - a word of warning!

Zombiecakes, I was about to say this actually, I don't think it's the caffeine either - I've been guzzling coffee to try and make myself feel better this afternoon and it's not helping :( I'm wondering if it's the aspartame sweetener (which is known to be vile stuff anyway) or something else in it?
  51. LadyHelen

    Is it really possible???

Good luck at your weigh in, look forward to hearing how you get on! :)
  52. LadyHelen

Diet Coke - a word of warning!

Until this week I was drinking vast, vast amounts of Diet Coke - as much as 2 litres a day sometimes. Having given up drinking, smoking and chocolate, it's about the only vice I have left! Anyway - I've had to stop drinking it suddenly, having found myself extremely broke - out of money...
  53. LadyHelen

    Is it really possible???

I'm going to sound a little bit harsh here to start with, mainly because I can't help myself. I go on and on about this to my friends at class, because it's so important: Chuck out your bathroom scales! Put them in the bin! Get rid of them! Or give them to your husband and tell him to keep...

    Online shopping?

Will do - I have a feeling the Waitrose store here might be due for expansion actually, I think I might have read about it - so maybe they'll start delivering from there.
  55. LadyHelen

    Online shopping?

Oh - and Tescos never charge more for substitutions either, they either charge you what the substitute costs if it's less, or the same as your original item if it's more.
  56. LadyHelen

    Online shopping?

Neither Waitrose nor Ocado deliver here! :( All the others do, but not those two how annoying!
  57. LadyHelen

    Online shopping?

I always do mine online, it would cost me £8 for a return trip to Tescos in a taxi (we don't have a car) so the £4 delivery charge is a bargain. I do one big shop a fortnight, but the problem is that I always end up going to the local Co-op a few times in between to get fresh stuff, salad and...

OK, I've just got my book out and looked - it is definitely, definitely listed on the Superfree page. It says "Melon (all varieties except watermelon)" but then down in the "W" it says "Watermelon". It is very definitely there on the Superfree page.

Why haven't I lost any weight?

I know exactly what you mean, I don't have them either because of tablets I'm on but I get cramps so I know when I should :)
  65. LadyHelen

Why haven't I lost any weight?

Is it star week? I (and a lot of other women) retain water wickedly the week before my period and it doesn't half affect your weight loss sometimes. Could it be that?

    Thank you

I just wanted to thank so very much all those who gave me a big, but very supportive, boot up the ar5e after my off-the-rails incident on Friday lunchtime! :grouphugg: I went to WI yesterday morning and it was absolutely fine - I lost 1.5lb and claimed my 1.5st award. :D I think this really...

    Frozen SW chips??

This is what I'd do - put some greaseproof paper on an oven tray and freeze them all separated on there, then once they're frozen solid you can pour them into a bag or a tupperware box.

    sw goals

Ultimately I'd like my weight in stone to be a single figure - I'm aiming for 9st 12lb. As to what size I'll be when I get there, I haven't the faintest idea, I was 12st 7lb when I was 14 and it's only gone up from then. As an interim goal, I'd love to be securely into a size 16, so I can go...
  126. LadyHelen

Those that gave things up for lent....

I didn't give it up for Lent as I'm not Christian, but I gave up chocolate a month ago when I started SW, and I've managed to stick it out until now. Very pleased with myself :)
  127. LadyHelen

    I done it!

Welcome back Gem :) Good luck!
  128. LadyHelen

So whats everybody having for Easter Sunday Roast??

Slow-roast Garlic and Rosemary Lamb :D (with SW roasties, veg, gravy (2 syns) and some Aunt Bessie's yorkshires (6). Can't wait! Oh - and if anyone else fancies roast lamb, Tescos are doing half legs for half price at the moment!
  129. LadyHelen

I've got to my target tonight!!!!!

Amazing, well done you! :happy096: Bet you feel a million dollars :D
  130. LadyHelen

    no after weigh in treat!!!!

I have a treat, but something within plan. Tomorrow I have in mind a very large bowl of syn free chips with plenty of freshly ground sea salt and black pepper, and some light mayo to dip them in :D Nom nom!
  131. LadyHelen

    Fanfare please....

You are absolutely amazing. What a massive achievement and what an inspiration to the rest of us! Well done you! :happy096:

    11weeks pregnant and need help

I agree, Pinkminx, I'd definitely complain. On an average week we have 6 babies and 2 toddlers in our group and nobody minds - their mothers simply take them out of the room for a few minutes if they start getting fussy. They get doted on by the rest of the group, mainly. :)
  133. LadyHelen

    12 week count down price?!?!

    It's £49.50 - 10 x normal class price and you get 2 free. :)

The 'what i resisted today' Thread.

We have a tradition at work of everyone taking in birthday cake for everyone to share when it's their birthday. Since my birthday is so close to Easter I decided to go for a seasonal alternative instead, and I took a big bowl of chocolate eggs of all shapes and sizes (creme eggs, caramel eggs...

    Weigh In Treats

I weigh in in the morning, and afterwards I've taken to going into town, going to Starbucks and having a coffee in there - I have a skinny latte (milk taken from HexA) with sugar free syrup (free). It tastes as naughty as hell and feels like a real treat, but it's all within plan :D

    The dreaded "E" word!

I think it's a lot harder when you've got kids, Jess - there's only me and DH here, so unless we buy them there are no eggs in the house! Good luck, hope it's not too bad for you!
  140. LadyHelen

    The dreaded "E" word!

Outstanding plan! :D Going somewhere nice?
  141. LadyHelen

    The dreaded "E" word!

Thanks :D You're so lucky, chocolate is one of the things that I just can't leave alone! In fact, since I started SW again I've gone cold turkey on it, I haven't had any since I started. It really has been like breaking an addiction, which is sort of worrying. If I can get to Easter without...
  142. LadyHelen

    The dreaded "E" word!

I mean Easter, of course. :D So - what is everybody doing for Easter? How are you planning to cope with the Ghost of Cadbury's Present? :) My husband and I have given it a hell of a lot of thought over the last couple of weeks. In previous years I would have simply said "To hell with it!"...
  143. LadyHelen

    Side effects of SW?

Another one for dry skin here - it's both clearer and drier, which is slightly odd. I'm ladling on the Nivea Visage Sensitive! LOL I'm not about to complain though, it's been greasy for as long as I can remember.
  144. LadyHelen

    So nervous!

Good luck today - I'm glad you got the weigh in result you wanted, now fingers crossed for good news from the doctor!
  145. LadyHelen

How did you set your target weight?

I looked at the BMI range for my height, and picked a weight squarely in the middle of the "healthy" section, which turned out to be 10st. :) I've never been a healthy weight though, not since I was a kid (I can remember being 14 and being 12 1/2 st then) so it's a bit of a stab in the dark...

The 'what i resisted today' Thread.

Yesterday I resisted: The crispy skin on the roast chicken we had for dinner. Toast at lunchtime when I was making some for my husband. Bacon fat - I cut the fat off my bacon before I cooked it instead of making it all crispy and yummy. I'm still really proud of myself for all three!
  149. LadyHelen

    What are your staple syns?

In an average week I will probably have most of the following at one time or another: Hi fi bars (5.5 or 6) Alpen light bars (3) Heinz Extra Light Salad Cream (1 per tbsp) Fat free cottage cheese with pineapple (1) Mini Babybel Light (2) Chinese Takeaway (My normal order comes out to 25 syns...

    Motivation/Rewards

So I've been wondering - what do you all have as motivations/rewards? In terms of things that you reward yourself with as you go along, I mean? My husband had a lovely idea which we're going to take up - he's going to buy me a Pandora bracelet, and then for each of my weight loss achievements...

    Syn Question

The amount of syns you have to start with seems to vary from consultant to consultant to be honest. Extra Easy Recipe Recommendation

Info - My Consultant's Seminar Regarding EE 1/3 free!!

Yep. Essentially it prescribes fresh fruit and vegetables (green ones, mostly) and there's no way out of it. Not much fun if you don't like them, like my poor husband! He's tolerating it for this week (my first week) but I think next week I shall go back to what I know works and what I know I...

Info - My Consultant's Seminar Regarding EE 1/3 free!!

So that being the case you can't have chilli and rice or spaghetti bolognese - without having to fill one third of the plate with vegetables. That's... odd. I'd sooner either cook the veg into the chilli or bolognese and make sure it makes up a third of the recipe, or leave 1/3 of the plate...

Extra Easy Recipe - slightly confused.

For those of you who use it, there's a recipe on "Lifeline Online" that I want to make tonight for "Pork and Apple Casserole". It looks gorgeous and lists it as having 2 syns per serving on Extra Easy (serves 4). What's confusing me is that I can't see where in the recipe they've managed to...

A good few years back I had a Weight Watchers leader who had a favourite saying - she liked it so much that she had it printed up on a big board at the front of her meetings. "One day at a time, no guilt and move on." I never did ask her where she got it from, but it's as true now as it was...

Thanks Dehli :) I know the ins and outs of the plan pretty well, you could say I'm a SW veteran! I think this will be either the 5th or 6th time I've rejoined. Hopefully I can make it the last time. :)

    Just like starting over...

Hello everyone. :wave_cry: I used to post here, about this time last year in fact. Unfortunately I fell off the wagon in about March, and all the weight I lost came back, with reinforcements. I don't dare get on the scales, but I'm quite certain that I'm now heavier than I've ever been. I'm...

    Quorn

Totally agree with this! And yes, they're free! We do them in a bolognese-style sauce (tomato, onion, garlic, basil, oregano), serve them on a pile of spaghetti with some parmesan sprinkled over the top (1.5 syns per tbsp or use as a HexA). They're fabulous :) I also really like the frozen...
  175. LadyHelen

I know how you feel - all too often I have a plate piled with stuff (example - 2 quorn chicken burgers, syn free chips, baked beans and a fried egg for 5 syns), which is absolutely legit and well within my daily syn allowance, and end up feeling like a fat pig for eating so much. I know i shouldn't have.....

The others have said what I was going to say already - stay off your home scales, chuck the d*mn things in the bin! They're almost certainly wrong anyway! Don't panic, keep doing what you're doing, and come back and tell us how you got on tomorrow :)

Red Day Chicken Cake (with cheese, sausagemeat and bacon)

OMG, MEATLOAF!!! Well, not really, but it looks enough like meatloaf to get me excited! The meatloaf I used to make is out of the question now as it had a load of full-fat sausagemeat in it, so I shall definitely be giving this one a shot! THANK YOU! :D
  187. LadyHelen

You're not supposed to be suffering! If you're suffering, you're doing it wrong! The whole point of SW is to lose weight without depriving yourself and suffering.

    Staying to class....

Until now I've always had a day off each week, but considering that I've been following the plan to the letter for the other six days and then gained weight for two weeks in a row, it's the only thing that can be causing it! Every day is on plan from here on.
