    Tips for re-starting Sole Source

I have returned to CD as I was slowly but steadily regaining and, since I was not at goal, could not bear to face going up one size or perhaps more - Christmas or no Christmas! The only tip I have for strugglers is one that probably seems obvious - have an extra pack when desperate, or even...

Is anyone else as bad as me?

I am a returner, and glad to be so because I know I can shed a lot of weight in a reasonably short time. I have just discovered CD porridge. What a joy! A hot, 'filling' meal! I can't afford CD usually but want to lose a stone for Christmas. I have lost 9 and a half stones over the past...

Yep - fight the good fight. I've been maintaining a huge loss for years now and just recently, with the onset of very cold weather, regained at least half a stone. Since Christmas is coming I have today ordered a generous amount of CD - an advance gift to myself. Hopefully I can get a stone...

    Being 'Bad' after WI?

I think this is a common problem! Back in the day when the Slimming Magazine Clubs were going I had three mates who used to do the very same thing, week in, week out. Straight to the chippie or the kebab shop after the WI! Yeah it can slow down loss but on the other hand if it helps you stick...

    Size 14 Yippeee!!!

Size 14 is fantastic - very well done. We start to feel 'normal' at around 16-18, I think. When at last 14 comes around we are thrilled. I am there now, and looking forward hopefully to my first size 12 in many a long year. Good luck, and enjoy every second of this victory!

    Big Brother

I miss BB too. A lot! Was gutted that Rachel beat Mikey at the very last minute but rather her than either Darnell or Rex. Couldn't stand D's non-stop abusiveness and whingeing, nor Rex's arrogant bossiness. Ah well - there's always next year!

Am feeling very disappointed with Atkins....

I agree with others that taking especial care to eat extra lean meat etc and lower fat products in general might help speed up loss. Eat more fish but grill or poach rather than fry. Eat salad rather than slightly sweeter vegetables. And exert more careful portion control. Just a little bit...

Your post just made me laugh. When I first tasted a Sero Berry and White Chocolate Bar I couldn't believe how awful it was. I couldn't finish it - a couple of small bites was enough. The peanut one is tolerable, but far from delicious. I like the chocolate mealbar and the orange mealbar but...

    Eat too fast

I actually tried to chew each mouthful 100 times, as (again) I once read somewhere. I don't advise others to try this - it is pretty much impossible as well as over the top! But 20 times seems very reasonable so I will give it a try. Might help to prevent me hungrily scarfing down my grub.

Has anyone successfully lost weight after a lifetime of yo-yo'ing??

I'm certainly not a gym bunny! I prefer to walk or jog in front of the tv or put on some sounds and dance - you work up a nice sweat and get toned all over. I agree that weight is a fickle thing. Sometimes you gain or lose in ways that seem baffling. Irishmum in your position I might up...

I bought those a few months back, wrongly believing that they were meal replacement shakes. They're not! They're low carb shakes all right, but only that. Not formulated to replace a meal. I think I paid around a pound for each one and was very disappointed when I found out that they were...

Hi guys. I've moved on to low GI - my own meal and snack choices - after a few weeks of Atkins. The low carbing helped to reduce both my appetite and my craving for sweet things and I lost 10lb. I realised that a lot of this was water so I began to slowly reintroduce fruit and the odd slice...

I think weighing too often sets us up for failure. We all know that fluid balance can cause the reading on the scales to go up or down or both many times each day. Once a week really is enough. Indeed when closer to goal once a fortnight or even a month is probably a much better indicator of...

    Unsupportive Spouse?

CD - and VLCDs in particular - are hard on life partners. To them it means 'no food' and just a sachet of powder three times a day - with a tiny carton of milkshake or maybe a weensy chocolate-covered mealbar now and then. If your loved one came to you and said, hey! I am gonna stop eating...

    Unsupportive Spouse?

    Astonishing visit to GP

You know, Barb, the one really important requirement in dieting/weight control is that we keep on going. As you say it is the journey that matters. Most of us can look back and say, well, once I was that 'bad'... now, I'm only this 'bad'... and in many ways, am now 'good'! We are constantly...

Delighted that your GP didn't smack your wrist, give you a withering look and hint that you 'deserve' to be overweight. So many of them, do! I do worry though that the 'it's not affecting your health' argument ignores the mental health aspect. I'd say fat is very damaging, psychologically...

Hi Barb, and very good luck with your exercise machine. I must say that I personally do not believe JUST in 'getting your head in the right place'. When we overeat the reasons are as much physical as psychological. When we diet our bodies rebel. The body wants to save us, to protect us from...

'Food is my friend' - NOT!

I agree that food should not be regarded as an enemy. It is up to us to re-negotiate our relationship with food, and the way we view it, and to recognise that we have a right to eat. The only qualification to this notion is that we should try, most of the time, to eat for health. We owe it...

A warm welcome to the calorie counting section. I like this approach because it means that I can eat almost anything. I just have to watch the portion size, and keep an eye on the quality of the food I eat. I remember AYDS very well. I also remember that they were expensive, tasted gorgeous...

What happens when you have a tummy tuck?

Oh, Mike. You've been through so much. This morning I got a letter from my GP saying that he'd finally received funding to refer me to a plastic surgeon about my tum. They are gonna send an a appointment date. As you can imagine I am now very very nervous. I may get a knock-back, of...

Just realised that I'm getting back the ability to lose weight on a mixed diet of around 1,000 cals or less. Thought I'd update this little sub-topic to say so. This is what I was hoping for months back. It's taken a while to find the right balance of food types and calories but what I'm...

Did you VLCD? If so, did you suffer from the same problem? I did and as far as I know most peeps do. I used psyllium husk and found it immeasurably useful. Perhaps you might like to try it? It's gentle but powerful and without it I doubt I could have stuck to CD for any length of time. It...

July Challenge - Sign up now

I'd love to join. I did the June Challenge on the DH board and to my amazement actually made my target. I'd feared that the pressure to achieve a certain amount might hinder me. It seems to have had the opposite effect, but then, finding an eating plan that suits me and my post-SS body has...

Very good day yesterday. Made pan-fried herb bread (with baking powder, not yeast) and cooked it in a smidgeon of oil. Son was visiting - he scarfed most of it. I had a generous medium slice; estimated calories 200 at most. Banana Tetra for brekkie, low carb breakfast bar for snack, one Slim...

Two simple words, Anja: fresh figs. I once accidentally overdid it with these, and this led to a toilet experience, sustained over two days, that I will never forget. I suggest no more than one fig if your tum is empty or almost empty when you consume it - and maybe if it's full! They taste...

I agree about Carole. She is killing them with mumsy 'kindness' and treating them like unruly kids. Okay, they are unruly kids, but she's driving them and us nuts by constantly policing them, judging them and feeding/cleaning for/lecturing them. She breaks down too easily and plays for...

When you are drinking all that water in addition to herbal tea, black coffee, etc, you can easily end up drinking too much fluid. But people often quote 'the more you drink, the more you shrink', because that's what they were told. I think that is possibly dangerous advice. I could not put...

    Carbohydrates

Yes you look at 'of which sugars' basically. However on VLCDs you need to be wary of all carbs. Even the sugar polyol ones such as sorbitol, which is in most of those chewing gums and diabetic type foods. Some people are very sensitive to them and they can stall weight loss. They can also...
