Healthier Alternatives without breaking the bank

Do you have a Home Bargains shop nearby? In mine they often have single Alpen Light bars for 25p each :) They don't tend to have more than one flavour choice but I stock up when I can. I find them great for work as I have a hectic job, and sometimes I'm stuck up a mountain or on a cliff and...

    Hello from Sydney Australia!!!!

I adore tofu. I've been veggie all my life and was brought up on it! I'm not a big fan of Quorn as I find the texture wierd (I've never eaten meat so I assume that's why!). I do use the mince and eat the sausages occasionally. As previously mentioned tofu is great in stirfry or salads. I dice...

Too fat for my Valentines pressie!

I have the same problem too!! I wear wellies for work sometimes as we do lots of outdoor stuff. I find if I cut 2 slits in the back then they fit ok on my legs. though you may not want to do that to nice ones!! x

How much execise do you do ?

I've started walking to work, it's 40mins round trip. I really enjoy it and I don't feel like I'm doing exercise if u know what I mean. I walk every day (5 days a week) but I'll drive when it's raining! I also go to a toning class once a week for an hour but I've only just started this. x

    Going it alone

I do it at home. I'd rather spend the money on exercise classes or fresh fruit/veg than the class. I tried classes a few times but never found a consultant I gelled with. Plus I go away with work 6 times a year so it was a nightmare trying to find a suitable class. I don't have any tips...

    green foods to try

I do the same as Brightonrosie and sometimes save a healthy extra to have a chunk of cheese when I'm peckish - I love cheese and could eat a ton of it, I find 28g grated really isn't much when in a meal, but a 28g chunck is satisfying enough. Hard boiled eggs are good snacks too. I tend to...

    Asda chickpea dhal?

It's in a can, which has a lilac/purple background and picture of the curry on the front. It's usually in the tin aisle, near things like ravioli. Asda do a couple of tin curries so you should be able to find the section. But you do have to look for it sometimes in my store! HTH x

    Countdown issues?

Hey all I have been doing SW since April and have bought 3 lots of the 6week countdowns during this time (from 2 separate consulants as I changed groups). I am week 4 of 6 this week, and told my consultant that I would be taking a holiday next week as I am moving house. She told me holidays...

1st time and last time..yuk yuk yuk

I've only tried the tomato and herb one, and it's ok. Wouldn't have it as a meal normally, but I go away on residential trips to middle of nowhere and we get white bread sarnies provided for lunch, so I eat mugshots then instead of them. The only thing I have is a kettle so it limits my options...

    O/T (ish) moving out

Hey all, I've taken the plunge and I'm moving out of parents house sometime in next 2 weeks! I've lived away from home before but moved back in 5 years ago (I'm 27) after a messy split from ex, and stayed longer than planned to help look after my mum who has been unweell, but is better now...

    Whats for tea everyone???

I'm quite proud of what I had for tea. I'm ever so slightly hungover today and have craved Dominos pizza. I was meant to take my mum into town tonight and I was gonna pick up pizza on way home as they don't deliver to my area. But my Dad had to drop something off at my nan's so he took my Mum...

    Going digital?

Hey all My consultant told me that the group is to shortly go digital, and this means that we will not be able to WI early now cos the scales won't turn on til dead on 6pm? Can anyone confirm this? The class starts at 6pm, but she is there and ready from 5.45pm, so if I am not staying for...

    Tuesday WI's...

I lost one pound this week. God knows how cos it's my star week, and I have eaten my bodyweight in chocolate! Plus I had chips, and pizza, this week! Though i was back on plan from Sat onwards so that clearly helped. Just half pound til my first stone :) x

    Good luck Tuesday weighers

Pound off for me :) so please as I was working away this week and staying in a hotel so had very little control over my food! And it's my star week. Motivation... How?!

No probs hun. I can't beleive I didn't mention Alpen Lights in my post! They are great. Bit pricey but worth it. I always have one in my handbag, and a box in my desk. Summer fruits are my fav flavour. I don't find the choc ones very chocolaty. but the summerfruits are very sweet so hit the...

Hey all, I did my Race for Life 5k today with 2 friends! Did it in 1hr 7mins. Really enjoyed even though it was showery. Didn't do as much training as I had planned, but am quite active with work so it wasn't a struggle. Raised just under £150 so far :) x

Its more like poundland combined with woolies! It has cheap food products, home stuff, toilettries, toys etc. There are none in the town I live in, but 2 in the town I work in :) so will have a look for some next week Thanks x

    I made an ooopsie!

I was the same last night. Went out for friends's birthday, and lost track after the 2nd bottle of wine was opened! But i, like you, had no syns yesterday. Diet Coke

I like Diet Coke, although I'm trying not to drink it much at all now cos I don't think it's good for you. I only now have it at the pub every so often. I can't stand real Coke as I've drunk Diet Coke for years, plus diet Pepsi doesn't taste anywhere as near as nice as Diet Coke. x

Hey all In my job I have to go away for 6 weeks spread throughout the year. We always stay in same place and have same sort of food each time. Last time I went, I put on 2lbs, despite it being an extremely active week (I do outdoor pursuits with teens). I need some advice on what food I can...

    SW online

Thanks for this thread. I'm currently debating switching from classes to online (and have had some helpful info off cocktailprincess). However I worked it out as being £5 odd per week online compared to £4.50/week for classes. 3months + £60 divided by 12weeks = £5/week x

    Unlimited free food?

My consultant says that it's generally better for you to fill up on free food rather than syn-free food if you get what I mean. E.G. make pasta with a homemade tomato sauce, rather than a Pasta N Sauce sachet one. I don't think it matter's too much, but she recommends this to people who are...

    Chips

In my old SW class (I've changed recently) there was a woman who would regularly bring her little girl - I'm talking under 18months - and she would have her daughter on her lap and feed her a Mcdonalds happy meal throughout the class to keep her quiet!! I couldn't beleive this was allowed...

    SW Navy stylee!

Nope it wasn't part of that. I work for a national youth charity, and the Navy invited us and 6 of our young people onboard to experience the life of the Navy. It was a fantastic trip, learnt loads, were made to feel extremely welcome by all on board, even got to steer the ship! x

    Green Day Egg Fried Rice.

I just made a similar version of egg fried rice but without the mushrooms (evil food!). I used eggs, rice, spring onions and tofu, plus salt n peppar and soy sauce. It was very yummy, very quick to make (the rice was frozen so just poured boiling water over it and left it to stand whilst...

    SW Navy stylee!

Hey all I have spent the last 2 days on a Navy ship at sea for work purposes, with a group of young people I work with. I was very impressed that I managed to stick to SW food the whole time! I had scrambled egg and beans for breakfast, wholemeal roll with cheese and salad, plus extra salad...
