    Alexmummy's learning journey...

So excited for you. My scales have now averaged out at 9 stone 7 for eight weeks. It still feels a bit surreal but the hard work is worth it. Funnily enough, if anything I may try and go up a little as my hip bones are sticking out a bit and it hurts when I wear jeans. I still have a butt and...

Self confidence, body conscious, sex and a lot of other rambles!

I really admire your openness and honesty TFG. One thing I had to learn was the difference between self-esteem and self-confidence, and that was actually thanks to someone on here. Self-esteem is about your opinion of yourself and self-confidence is about your ability to do things. I used to...

The final stone brigade - join in anytime

This is such a lovely thread. I mustn't get too cosy. I had loads of fears about losing weight because all the things I'd said I wanted to do, I now 'could' do. And that's when the really hard work began and in some ways it was a bit of a double edged sword because all that stuff I now could do...

The final stone brigade - join in anytime

Now that would be a fabulous invention! As for that number on the scale, the focus will come off but it may take effort. There's so much focus on this forum on how much we lost each week that it's easy to forget there's more to life than that. The book Eating Less helped me a lot and as I've...

LOL Mrs E - do you want me to change the title to that. Hang in there ladies. I really struggled at the same point you did. 810...

I stayed in ketosis on 810 (before the new changes). If people SS+ with milk and 4 shakes they can have more carbs than on 810 so I'm sure I'm not alone. RG - as I understand it, because of CD saying people aren't necessarily in ketosis they are now allowing the extra stuff. Personally, it...

Has anyone gone back to SS for a few lbs? Any CDC advice....?

Okay first up, there's no such word as shouldn't. If using the packs is the way you want to maintain your weight and you are happy with that, then go for it. As a happy maintainer, I have to say not using the packs as a tool is what keeps me at goal. I wouldn't want to go back on the packs - I...

Good good. As you know there's carbs in the packs as well as protein, and also lots of vitamins and minerals so make sure you get enough of all the groups. What do I do?

810 is a great plan. You'll love it. Most people can stay in ketosis on the old 810 but there's a few new additions that may knock people out. Depending on what you had when you SS+ and what you eat on 810, you may have had more carbs on SS+ anyhow.

    Lexie's Diary - Currently SS

Is there any chance it's the exercise that is making you hungry Lexie and not 810? Reason I ask is that we don't have much glycogen stored and if you are getting your heart rate up high, your body is going to look for glycogen as bodies do that before they look for fat when exercising. It...

Oooh interesting question :D:D and one I wish I could have time to look into because it interests me. 810 is really about extra protein to help prevent muscle wastage and keeping your carbs still low so you stay in ketosis. Some people have more carbs on SS+ than they do on 810. There's a...

Ha. Having had a look at a few recipes and what is/isn't possible, I don't think I'll be doing as much as I wanted. Oh well. The idea was good in principal. Some of the Atkins recipes could be changed too and I could drop that fat % and up the carbs.

Yep, dizzy spells were pretty normal for me unfortunately and they were bad at the beginning and then much worse towards the end. I had to make myself get up really slow from anything and be careful about picking things up. If I got too hot, or drank too much water, I'd feel off too.

Hi Stranger, It's great to see you back posting here. I hope you don't mind me being blunt but I think you know me well enough now :) What's your motivation behind choosing 810? You can still lose a decent amount of weight on a higher plan ie 1200 and you'd have more energy to exercise. 810 is...

"No, I don't want to eat."

Most welcome everyone. Butterfly - I learned a lot from reading KD's maintenance threads so it may well have come from there. Eating Less really hit home for me too. There wasn't necessarily any new messages just the right message at the right time in the right way for me :) Maintance is the...

My questions about maintaing...with my own answers :D

Good to hear from you both. Nic - hope you feel better soon. Take care of yourself. Not surprised your weight hasn't changed if it's TOTM. If all else is going the right way, don't worry. Aly - if you move up the steps properly, the glycogen gain should equal the weight loss from the steps so...

"No, I don't want to eat."

How many times have you said this to yourself trying to convince yourself you don't want to eat, and then gone into a battle - Yes I do, No I don't, Yes, I do but I can't and then end up telling yourself you don't want to eat so many times you still end up doing it. That inner battle of self...

    Exercise and CD

Hi: Here's one answer: http://www.minimins.com/cambridge-diet-forum/111478-confused-about-exercise-weight-loss.html What kind of workouts are you doing with your trainer? Long story short, pilates and Yoga should be okay (as is weight training but try and keep your heart rate fairly stable)...

    Muscle aches?

I always knew this was a sign I was going into ketosis. Pretty sure it was caused by the lack of glycogen (and CDC confirmed this) and the good ol muscles are just doing their work. Doing some light weights throughout 810 really helped me in that sense.

why cant i put a picture up?

I'm pretty sure you need 50 posts to post pics. More info about posting rights are in the Technical Support section :) There's a few games in Off Topic. If you post in there, you'll get your 50 in no time.

More of my incessant rambling - getting into a vicious cycle

At the end of the day, people have a choice whether to read it or not, and you never know when you've helped people without even realising. My thread is only for either a) the very brave and b) the desperate insomniacs. I was going through a stage of not posting about food but about people...

When should I move up stages?

My very first CDC told me I could SS+ to goal (BMI would have been about 23). I'd done some research at realised this is not what is advocated by NICE (not 100% sure what it is now). Although I'm sure my CDC had nothing but good intentions, I considered it my responsibility to make sure I knew...

More of my incessant rambling - getting into a vicious cycle

I think introspecting is a fine thing and working out your triggers and letting go of the past helps you to move forward. I have posted 506 times in my own thread alone since May of last year, and that includes a good month or two of not posting. It's very cathartic and doesn't hurt anyone :)...

whats your thoughts on the new cambridge battery opterated mixer ?

I find the soups dissolve well enough in hot water, and was normally home when I had the shakes. I have got one of those cappucino whisk things that someone on here told me not to buy but I thought did I good enough job on the shakes. It only cost me £3.
  216. L

    Do Re-starts work?

Yes! I'm absolute proof that restarts can work. I regained all my weight first time around (approx 3 stone) lost it again and have now been maintaining for a few months quite happily. I think I would have struggled to get back onto SS+ though and did 810 instead. Porridge for breakfast, soup for...

Isn't it great to discover foods we didn't like? Unfortunately for me I'm beginning to like chocolate more. Don't ask me how that's happened. I'm blaming it on the mousse. :) My stomach flipped when hearing about the FF but I'm sure I had a few 'meals' that could have beat theirs. Ugh. Much...

Benefits of Resistance training on a VLCD

Sorry Claire I don't like the tables so I don't know much about them but hopefully someone can tell you more about them. I'm sure they provide some kind of toning.. Yep, it's resistance like Claire said. Just did a quick search and this may not be bad as a start. Go carefully though: Online...

    Quorn??

The book says Quorn pieces or mince. I don't have the fillets. Looking on the Quorn website, I can't work out what is wrong with them as there doesn't seem to be anything else added. I only have the mince because I don't like the texture of the pieces. I just microwave the mince with vegies...

Benefits of Resistance training on a VLCD

I'm a real advocate of resistance work while people are on V/LCDs. I think this is a study I've read before and have been meaning to reread it. One thing I wish a study would address in more detail is how the heart rate intensity affects things, if at all. In other words, I think the...

Don't think I'll be posting anymore

It's supposed to be one scoop a day. Someone did query this a few months ago as there's only about 20 calories in a scoop and minimal carbs. I think the reason CD says only one scoop a day is to make sure people get drinking enough but that's just a guess. It does cost extra though so that was...

Calling All Recovering Choclate Addicts ...

There is hope :) The first time I ate an apple after being on SS+, I got that massive sugar high. I was really worried I wouldn't be able to eat them anymore but I realised I'd trained myself to know I could just have one apple, but yet I was sure I couldn't have just one biscuit. The mind...

I don't remember life before mixamousse. I still have a vanilla mixamousse some evenings even though I've been maintaining for a few months, occasionally a strawberry or chocolate one too. The packs are also good mixed with yoghurt or in maintenance make a mean thick shake. :)

    I think I need a new CDC!

She's definitely giving CD a bad name, but I'm not sure what the CDC standards are in terms of weighing, communication etc. I've never had a CDC that called/texted etc to see how I was.
  235. L

Weighing scales.. do I don't I.. and recommendations

Yay to free scales. Are you measuring yourself at home? That may give you a few numbers to play with. (I relate btw, my Excel sheet covered everything I could think of and more and I loved playing with the projections)
  236. L

When should I move up stages?

TBA - of course you are free to ask and NN's, I wasn't suggesting otherwise :) What scares me about CD is the lack of information that some CDCs give their clients. I've no doubt CD cover this in the training. That said, do you have a yellow Cambridge book because the information is there...
  237. L

When should I move up stages?

First up, congrats :) Once your BMI is below 25, you should be on 810 for a start. You can stay on 810 till target or move up a bit earlier. If you still have a stone to go and still feel okay, I'd stick to 810 as it's easier to lose weight on. That said, if you find your weight loss stops for...

Weighing scales.. do I don't I.. and recommendations

I think it's good to have a pair of decent scales (aren't Salter mentioned a lot) but I'm not convinced with the accuracy of the fat %. Sure you could use to see how the % decreased but in my books, the only one to get a really decent fat measurement is through calipers with someone who knows...

    I think I need a new CDC!

I completely agree with you. I've been through a few CDCs. I have a commercial background and it astounds me how some of these CDCs act. Surely they'd realise a decent service would equal more customers. (Though 10 customers doesn't sound like much I must admit) CD I guess is like a franchise...
  240. L

    I think I need a new CDC!

Did she give you a receipt Caroline? The receipt actually states CDCs must give you a refund for any unopened packs if purchased within the last 14 ( I think!) days. Good luck finding a new CDC. Alternatively , find someone reasonable who'll let you buy enough to balance out what you have for a...

Are you trying to work out your goal weight? This might help.

No worries. I knew that you knew that but it's a common misconception and a bit of a pet hate so I had to jump in. :o
  245. L

Are you trying to work out your goal weight? This might help.

I really like the idea of this calculator because I agree with you that BMI is not the be all and end all. Fat percentage with calipers is also an important measure. I have to say muscle doesn't weigh more than fat (though I'm sure you know that, others dont). 1 lb of muscle = 1 lb of fat...

Had a moment of realisation today

My brother in law had a really rough week at work the other week (he's a policeman) and mum took them some food up to help out. Honestly it quite scares me because she taught us to eat well, sure we had our food rewards but so did 'normal' people - so was there a mutant gene in me that...

    Week two and starving!

Have you eaten or drunk anything that may have knocked you out of ketosis? If not, is it physical hunger or head hunger? Sometimes our heads can make us think we are physically hungry too. How's your water drinking going? Have you been exercising too much by any chance? One thing I still do...

Oh I just love garlic bread. I consider it a very necessary part of a meal ;) I had some the other night but then just had half the pasta serving. I still felt incredibly full afterwards but it was oh so worth it.
