Extra Easy A quick tip for homemade burgers....

5% mince, because its so low in fat, can make burgers very dry. To combat this, try adding a finely chopped up mushroom per burger. Even if you don't like mushrooms, you cannot taste them in it, but because mushrooms have such a high water content, they make burgers really moist & juicy!

Extra Easy Make your own Syn Free Pork Sausages....

I have never made "homemade" sausages before, but thought seeing as only a very few commercially produced products are Syn Free, I would have a go at making them myself. I haven't yet got a sausage machine, so I rolled them by hand, and didn't have skins, but that did not detract from how...

Snacks Syn free sweet chilli crisps

You will need a make-your-own-microwave-crisps gadget for this although I have done them flat on a microwave mesh, you get better results from a "crisp maker". Just google "microwave crisp maker" to see the type of thing. Use a mandoline to get very thin slices of potato. Slot them into the...

    Extra Easy Cornish Under Roast

A real winter warmer recipe, that takes next-to-no preparation & Syn Free This old Cornish dish is tender beef pieces in gravy; the potatoes are crispy on the surface and soft and squidgy underneath. My recipe book doesn't give quantities (VERY old Cornish cookbook!) and TBH I've never...

    Extra Easy Syn Free Tortilla/wraps

I have been experimenting with a syn free tortilla, (that doesn't break up when you roll it up) as I love fahitas but simply cannot justify the high syn value of wraps. Glasses or contacts?

Up until recently I wore toric soft lenses. I have appalling short sight, & astigmatism. Mine were from Boots Opticians, and they are daily throwaway ones. The only issue I had with the toric lenses is the weights on them (which get them hanging at the right angle on the eye) can swing...

    Making a tablecloth!!!!

Depends what you want really. You need a thickish material, or dense weave, as thin cotton will just show through. A square or oblong cloth is far easier to handle than an oval one. Simple measure your table plus a decent overhang, then get whatever material you choose, (most shops/markets...

    "How old do I feel?"

Oh lordy yes, Shirleen, NHS pink & blue glasses, they were the bane of my life. Congenitally short sighted, I LOATHED those horrible blue specs, which of course gave rise to all the usual taunts of "4 eyes", "speccy" etc etc. Arent kids original???? (& sometimes horrible!)

    Question about HEX A & HEX B's

Hi all. Can I split or mix Hex a's & b's? I mean instead of having 2 slices of wholemeal bread can I have just one, & then half the value of another Hex b, such as bacon? I had spaghetti carbonara tonight, & it struck me that some garlic bread would have been brill, but the smoky bacon was my...

    prices of food

Anyone else tried Lakeland's "Stayfresh" bags for fruit, salad stuff & veg? I swear by them. You can keep stuff for ages in them, (up to 6 weeks) in the fridge. Great to take advantage of reduced prices or bogof deals...:)

    O/T I'm a wreck!

I have my first ever black eye! DS & I hit heads a few days ago, & I have a right shiner. Coupled with tennis elbow, (which refuses to clear up) & oesteoarthritis in my knees, if I were a horse they'd shoot me! I had thought about making up the other eye to match, as the bruising is right...

    Bl**dy cystitus!

Aaahhh poor you. The most loathesome thing... I had a tip years ago, & it seems to work for me though it tastes vile... a heaped teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in a glass of water several times a day. Helps to alleviate the burning sensation & neutralise the acidity. Works for me...! Cheap...

    Syn free chicken curry!

Yum, this was fab! I've done it twice now, the second time I made treble quantities, left the meat out, then froze the rest in batches for a quick curry next time. When thawed, just added chicken, (or veggies or whatever!)

    struggling New member

My husband came up with a great comparison. "2.2lb is a bag of sugar. Even 1lb is about half a bag, so think about that in terms of volume...!" Really put things in perspective for me. Crikey, just thought about bags of spuds!!!

    Freezing SF chips

I posted this as a answer to a thread but thought this might be useful here. I have found you can do a bulk lot of SF chips & freeze them, then just cook straight from freezer. After the par boiling & shake, spread them onto a tray, cool, then open freeze. Then bag 'em up! Easy, & just take out...

    syn free chips

I have found you can do a bulk lot of SF chips & freeze them, then just cook straight from freezer. After the par boiling & shake, spread them onto a tray, cool, then open freeze. Then bag 'em up! Easy, & just take out what you want when you want. They still cook in around 30 mins in a hot oven.
