    50lb Summer Challenge

I think I'll join too. 50lb will more or less put me at my target weight loss (going from obese class 2 to overweight. I've never really had the ambition to be normal:) ). I want to do it by the end of July.

    The weird zone

Hi, Lucy, yes I am sure you're right. One of the things you get with long distance weight loss is that it's pretty hard to remember the "you" at the beginning of the journey. Four years is a long time. Maybe it's a "trading up" kind of problem:)

    The weird zone

Hi, all, I wonder if anyone else has experienced this? I've lost around 75lb from my heaviest, and have around another 35lb to go. What I'm experiencing is that somehow I've gone from the extraordinary class where no one mentions weight loss to a place where I'm near enough to normal that...

IV Steroids. And another new beginning.

Hi, Sapi, you should not feel discouraged. Often when someone has unusual medical problems like you do people are less likely to comment because they don't want to give you bad advice. I don't really know any of the details of your medical condition but think diet chef is a good choice if you...

    Compulsive Overeater Diary

It really does get easier after a week or two. Most people find it a bit of a mare for the first week. Your body requires time to adjust.

    Is breakfast really worth it?

It depends. A significant percentage of binge eaters are triggered when they go hypoglycemic, in which case eating breakfast can stop binging. That's why it is advised. But, personally hunger doesn't have much yo do with why I overeat, so it doesn't matter for me.

I have plateaued and I need some advice!

As you get nearer your target weight it is going to get harder to lose the weight. Maybe try calorie cycling, but your current weight loss is reasonable.

A little advice needed on what amount is good to lose per week....

People tend to advise 1% of bodyweight, which works out at 1 to 2 lb for most people.

Need to lose 10 stone at the very least!

You shouldn't feel depressed, you know, in the grand scheme of things a .2lb gain will barely show up as a bump on the road. Just get back to training when you can.

    Weird question

Has anyone else noticed that as you lose weight it almost seems like there comes a point where people judge you very much more harshly. Perfect strangers are now prone to coming up to me on the street and giving me moronic advice or even hurling abuse at me. When I started weight loss barely...

    Last ditch attempt before surgery

Hi Bun, it sounds like we have much the same approach. I am mainly calorie counting, with around 2000 calories a day. I'm also walking a lot when i can. It seems to be working all right for the moment. Although i've eaten some chocolate :( you must have super willpower ;) It sounds like you...

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. Was the hospital trip related to your diabetes? Have you been given any nutritional advice to control it. Which type of diabetes is it? Type 2? I really admire you for getting back on the wagon.

That's a really good result. At your weight you shouldn't be losing much more than that anyway, as you might end up with loose skin. You're doing really well.

Need to lose 10 stone at the very least!

If you lose 1.5 lb a week for a year, you'll lose 78 lb during that year. Or almost 6 stone. For us heavyweight dieters you can be sure there will be times where during the diet you either don't lose weight or even gain weight... No sweat, if you are eating right and exercising right, physics...

Hi Jim, that's an interesting thread, thanks for posting it. I have been considering formal diets - but right at the moment I think I seem to be losing weight pretty fast. It's good to know atkins worked for you. To be honest, the most impressive thing about your achievement is the way you...

Lots of me to lose - 150 target, 20lb down

I guess you've just got something to look forward to when you lose the weight:) Yesterday I went on a 1 hr 40 minute walk. Today is my rest day, so I have done 2hrs of easy gardening. The downside is I ate a bit more than i should have for lunch. Am planning to go for a 45 minute walk.

Lots of me to lose - 150 target, 20lb down

Hi xMariex, Thanks for the tips. At the moment I am in training for long distance walking. I do plan on more rigorous exercise lateron, but for various medical reasons I really need to hold back from that until i've lost 50lb or so. A lot of how I am doing that is through diet. A guy who does a...

Hi Jim, thanks for the encouragement. Sorry about the metric, when I originally bought the scales they were the only affordable ones that wouldn't break due to my weight:( Today was my rest day, so I didn't go for a walk, but I did 30 minutes of chair exercises. The plan is too work on...

Hi everybody, A few years ago I had a pe and DVT, when I weighed 147 kg. As of last week I weighed 131 kg, which was the fastest I could go because it took a while to get healthy enough to exercise. Now my doctor has given me the go ahead, I want to lose weight faster. I'm down to...

Need to lose 8-9st with a dodgy leg

To be honest it sounds more like venous stasis disease to me, although you have not given many details. The common symptoms are legs that swell up after exercise or standing, possibly change colour (get redder) and hurt alot during exercise. The swelling often goes down after rest. Has it been...

    Artificial Honey

Hi, all, I haven't been here for a while - just lurking. But I have a question. When I was in the states I found some sugar free honey - by natures hollow. It was really nice. But I haven't been able to find any in the UK. Does anyone know where you can buy some?

    Tired while I lose weight

It may be worth getting a blood test and physical exam with your doctor just to make sure you are not anemic - which can happen after pregnancy. Or there is no underlying cause. It is, however, perfectly normal to be tired after pregnancy.

    Struggle with Belly Fat

is anyone else who has 100+lbs to lose just controlling cals?

I've lost over 100 lbs over the last two years with just controlling cals and more exercise. It's perfectly possible, but takes a little longer. Admittedly, I have had relatively long periods (one of around 6 months, plus a few others of a month or so) over the last two years where I was just...

Calorific intake vs exercise - help please!!

If the calculations don't include the additional exercise, then the gap between what you eat, and what you expend will be roughly 500 calories higher, and so you will lose slightly more weight every week. Basically, the body will need to burn some fat to replenish itself after the exercise...

7 stone in total to lose, how much in 8 weeks

I think it is just about possible to do it, but only on a VLCD. Personally, I think a stone a month is a much more healthy target. You didn't put all the weight on in a few weeks, and it takes time to get rid of it.

I don't know what to do with myself

When I was at the start of my weight loss I found my weight could vary by as much as 5lbs in a day. Scales can do strange things to your mind. What I found was that it was the trend that matters. At first I gave up weighing myself, and just stuck to a plan of healthy eating, counting calories...
