    Working out Syns?

Great advice by Gettingthinner by the day. If you go along to a class, the C will explain the plans to you plus you will get the books. You can then decide whether to keep attending or not :)

How much do we really need our Image Therapy?

I have always stayed to I.T. as I find it motivates me. At my class, quite a lot of people just weigh and go though. Each to their own. I enjoy the class but as you say, it is very important to have a good C that you can relate to.

HEX B - Weighwatchers thick sliced wholemeal???

I used to have this WW thick sliced bread, I thought it was very nice. Now tend to have the Nimble White which I saw recomended on this board, it's even nicer. Both 2 slices for a HeB. I enjoy being able to have a Heb sandwich. Feels like "normal" eating and not diet-like. I love SW. :)

Compulsive eaters! I must share this with you

Hi Serafyn, thanks for posting about this. I too am on anti-d's. Has made a massive difference to my emotional eating problem. I had Citalopram at first, but they gave me a very dry mouth. Changed to Fluoxetine (20mg) a day. Totally fab. Doc recommends I take them for life. My body...

Hi Ian, I relate exactly to what you are saying. My fear is that I will put the weight back on again, as I always have in the past. To avoid this, I plan to keep going to class for life. That way any little gains will be kept under control and lost again, instead of building up and gradually...

Can we drop the 'onlys' please?

Well said, DD. It's not a race! I am thrilled to bits with a pound a week, others at class get quite stroppy if they lose a pound. They seem to think I am almost weird to be happy with a pound. The slower I lose it and retrain my eating habits, the less likely I am to pile it back on!

Do you reward yourselves after weigh in?

I have trained my husband to pick up some nice fruit for me each week I am at class, as a reward. Usually something like a big pineapple, or anything new and exotic. Before SW, he used to often buy me a box of chocs or bottle of wine as surprise pressies. Hmmm, wonder why I put on weight!

    Foods that Trigger Hunger?

Eating fruit on its own always makes me hungry very shortly afterwards. Also carbs on their own don't keep me full for long but are fine with protein added. White carbs on their own would trigger a binge for me. As mentioned earlier, is due to rising, then crashing blood sugar.

I know Crapstone very well. Nice place, unfortunate name. On beautiful Dartmoor. About 20 mins from where I live. Lovely walking area (body Magic!).
  127. lemon_fizz

Oh no, oh no, oh no!!!

My thing was Devon cream teas - scones dripping with strawberry jam and clotted cream! About 100 syns each! I don't think it would be possible to make a low syn version.
  128. lemon_fizz

Hmmmm - Fruit makes you fat?? Really??

If I eat fruit on its own, it makes me starving very soon after. I am ok if I have it within a meal. As a snack I always add lean protein, usually a small piece of ham or chicken breast. As suggested by SW, I reach for fruit as my first choice for a snack but then I reach for protein to add to...

    How do you stop yourself?

Thanks Magic, love that. I don't have extras after WI as it's too close to binge eating which I suffered with for so long. I want to put that behind me and eat normally. My C has a sign by her scales saying something along the lines of - your new week starts after you step off the scales...

will the real msblonde please stand up...

Hey, looking good MsBlonde. I see you are in Okehampton. I live in Plymouth. My hub and myself often go up to North Devon for the week, normally stop off in Okehampton to use their Waitrose and Lidl to stock up on food and booze for the weeks stay. Been lovely and sunny here too today.
  131. lemon_fizz

    How important are sins?

I would say you should def have them. It's important for the plan to work plus your mental well-being. It's my syns that stop me diving into a binge!
  132. lemon_fizz

    A bit of light relief...

Brilliant. Big well done you. Thanks for posting. Very motivating.
  133. lemon_fizz

Being rubbish at the SW 'rules'- e.g. My Mum

Thanks for posting that. So funny! There's a very nice lady at my meeting who keeps saying she doesn't get EE. The C and members have kindly explained it over and over. She asked me about it and I said maybe she should re-read her book to remind herself. She looked at me in amazement...

Flexi synning - what do you do?

Exactly right, Annie. It's about empowering you to stay in control in a circumstance that would often make you 'blow it'. Weddings, meals out, hen nights, that type of thing. Have the event, thoroughly enjoy it, then straight back on the SW wagon!
  135. lemon_fizz

Flexi synning - what do you do?

I flexi-syn the day or meal (depending what the special event is) then go straight back to my usual syn allowance the next day ie 10-15 a day. I don't reduce it for the rest of the week as that is more likely to make me binge. The whole point of flexi-syns is to give you an extra bit of...

Info - My Consultant's Seminar Regarding EE 1/3 free!!

Reading back through this thread, I notice that there are different messages being passed to members by the C's. My own C has kept it very simple and just says 1/3 s.f with meals for EE. I think if a member wasn't losing she would make further more detailed suggestions but as long as the weigh...

I would contact SW hq, this C obviously has a training need. She is letting you the members down as well as SW. I think her saying oh well she is dippy is plain rubbish. Members need proper, correct info to support their weight loss plans.

What does everyone like best about SW

I love SW because it isn't like a diet, its a lifestyle. Having been on miserable restictive diets all my adult life, I am loving the freedom and sense of control SW gives me. Every meal is delish. I love that I don't run out of calories and have to spend the evening starving! I enjoy my class...

Info - My Consultant's Seminar Regarding EE 1/3 free!!

I don't have a prob with the 1/3 superfree on EE. I always put it on the plate first, then the free food plus syns (if having any). Use the 1/3 superfree as the base, then add to it. Can't really go wrong. With a cooked brekkie I often have tinned toms or mushrooms as my 1/3 s.f. For hot...
  141. lemon_fizz

You know when you're a bit obsessed when.......

When I shop and buy something new, I look the syns on the SW site and write it on the packet/tin too! I don't see it as being nuts, I like to see it as being well-organised!
  142. lemon_fizz

    Expensive?

I use Iceland a lot. I love their bags of veg. Most of them are only £1, you get loads and there is no waste. Also their Batchelors rice and Pasta n Sauce are all on BOGOFF. They do very large bags of baking spuds for £2, or salad pots for £1. Their sugar-free pop is dirt cheap. 6 litres for £1...

    Saying Hello

Hi and welcome. This is a lovely site. Good luck with your slimming.
  144. lemon_fizz

    Should I . . . ?

I would always def go cause if I miss one week to hide from a gain, chances are I would never go back! Anyway it shouldn't be a question of 'facing the music', you should be offered support and ideas by both the C and your fellow members. We have all been there!
  145. lemon_fizz

    asda sausages

The Tescos Lighter Choice Cumberland sausages are very nice. Just like 'normal' sausages. 1 syn on red and EE. They do pork ones in the same range but I found them a bit bland.
  146. lemon_fizz

    Im so weak.....

I always trim fat off before cooking the meat, no temptation to eat it then!

After weigh in with a big group

I prefer a smaller group. I tried a large one but found it way too impersonal. In my current group about 15 stay after WI, which I find is about right. People get to know each other and there is plenty of healthy discussion and support to each other. At the large group I went to , it felt like...

Booze! Too many syns in it plus makes me likely to head for the fridge when I have had a few!

    How many consultants?

No one at my class has ever mentioned this site. I find it a great extra support system and encouragement throughout the week.
  150. lemon_fizz

    Does your consultant...

Hi. The way I look at it is that it is my class for me to benefit from in any I like. Whether that be just weighing in and going or staying. My C would say the same. Take what you want and leave the rest. We had a taster yesterday morning at my class. It was lovely. Very relaxed and fun. I...
  151. lemon_fizz

    Thoughts....

I wouldn't stick to the plan if I didn't go to class. Having lost and gained so many times before, I now realise the only way for me to keep it off is to keep going to class - for life!

    Food directory 2010

I use the Directory all the time. Handy to sit and do a shopping list from. The Free Branded little book is good too, keep that in my handbag.

    Scan Bran Question

My C mentioned they were going to be repackaged in twos. So they are still 1/2 each but two will be linked together making it 1 syn for the whole thing.
  154. lemon_fizz

So I cut down my free foods and . . .

Hi all, am loving this thread. Moderation is the key. When I tried SW in the past, I used to think 'free' foods meant eat until I nearly burst! Obviously I didn't lose any weight then. I tend to reach for fruit as my first option if I want a snack.
  155. lemon_fizz

    Here I go again!

Hi all Just back from joining SW. Was fab and so motivating. Have bought a 12 week countdown to encourage me to keep going each week. The Consultant is great. We even had a Christmas sing song, everyone was friendly. I was given the new pack, which I think is laid out in a much easier way...

    Pineapple problems

I can eat a little but makes my mouth sore if I have too much. Remember yonks ago, there was some hideous Pineapple Diet? I think all it did was put you on the toilet for hours!! An uptight overly skinny lady in a leotard promoted it?

    Here I go again!

Hello Vikstar, Minn & Fern Thanks for your supportive words. I am feeling really upbeat and positive. Got to do big shopping run later to get plenty of SW friendly food into the house. As it's just my husband and myself to feed, I don't need to buy non-SW stuff. Husband is joining me on SW...

    Here I go again!

Hiya Loopeylou Thanks. I eventually realised unless I gave up booze, I just wouldn't get to the weight I want to be. It's not just the syns in the booze itself, it's the pigging out I do after a drink or several!

    Here I go again!

Hi ILoveLife, Eternity, Chicky Noops, Roseyroo & Devon Dumpling Thanks for your lovely welcome. Am all fired up and ready to get this weight off. Have emailed my local SW class with a few questions - although really I have done this to commit to myself that I am going there on Tues. No...

Morning all Well after so many starts and re-starts, here I am again. Still got about 3 stone to lose so, hey, at least I have STS for the last few months. Used Cal Counting before which is a lovely diet plan but I fancied a change to motivate myself! Sooooo on the SW plan for me...

    Alcohol and me

Alcohol is what makes and keeps me fat too! Not bothered about cakes/choc/biscuits/crisps type junk, it's the booze I miss on a diet. I drink voddy and diet coke too. Of course, once you start drinking, relaxing and having a good time, then the picking at crappy foods starts. Then there's...

    Height, Weight and clothes size.....

I'm 5'5" and 12 stone. I am 16 or 18 depending which shop it is. Casting my mind back to when I was last at target of 9st 7lbs, I was a 10. I read somewhere that each size is meant to be a stone so if you gain/lose 3 stone, you are supposed to go up/down 3 sizes. That worked out about...

    Calorie BARGAIN!

Great thread. I love a bargain! I love to drown my meals in Bisto Best roast beef gravy (31 cals per 10g dried weight). It turns a potentially boring dish of lean meat with veg into a tasty non-diet tasting treat. Hits the spot for me everytime. Also love my sugar free diet pops...

    Slightly Bemused Newbie!!

Hi Miss Cookie Totally hear you about the boots prob. That was one of the final things that kicked my backside into dieting gear - went to get my usual 4 or 5 pairs of winter boots only to find I couldn't do them up! In the first couple shops, I told myself it was the shops being mean and...

Thanks for all your responses. At the risk of TMI again, in my first few days of cal counting, inbetween sleeping and abusing my husband, I did spend ages in the loo! Lost gallons of water! Poor bog nearly overheated with all the flushing! Feeling even better today as the day went on...

Blimey, who would have thought it!

Well, after working very hard at coming up with loads of excuses not to stick to my cal counting, at last I have got my backside in gear and started actually following it rather than just thinking about it. Strangely, when you just THINK about dieting, the weight doesn't come off! Anyway...

    Newbie with questions!

I measure 200ml of semi-skim milk (100 cals) each morning, leave it in the fridge in a jug and use it when I want tea or coffee, rather than calculate amount used for each drink. I find that all cereals even the very hi-fibre ones only fill me up for an hour or so. Protein keeps me happy and...

    Favourote breakfast

I always have protein of some sort - chicken/ham/fish/eggs - with baked beans or tinnned toms. Then a little fruit. Plus coffee and sugar-free squash. Keeps me going to lunch time. 300 cals worth. If I don't have the protein, I am starving and grumpy within an hour or so.

    Newbie with questions!

Hello and welcome. I never let myself get hungry as that would freak me out into a binge! I have 3 small meals with 3 small snacks in between, that way you eat little and often so keeps energy up and blood sugar stable. Plenty of fluids help too. Sugar free squash, tea, coffee etc. I...

    1300 cal

Hi Costaerer I have about 3 stone to lose and I have 1500 cals a day. I thought that would give me a bit of scope to drop the amount if I plateau. I aim for at least a 20 min walk a day. I worked in a restaurant during school hols - all those left over gateaux/delish puds to eat up, new...

    newbie alert!!!

Hi I have had IBS for about 20 years. It is least painful when I follow a sensible calorie counted diet. I feel really well and have loads of energy. I do best on little and often with food. 3 small meals and 3 small snacks evenly spaced out over the day. I avoid anything 'scratchy'...

    extra 6000 cals day

I can't give you figures, but I too would think that if you stop 6000 cals a day, the weight should drop off pretty fast. Speaking as someone with relatives who were heavy drinkers, I wonder if you will have alcohol withdrawal symptoms to deal with. Perhaps seeking medical advice would be...

    Fed up failing

I agree as well, it's got to be a lifestyle change rather than just a diet you go on because by going on something, it implies at some point you will come off it. Then the weight piles back on in what seems like 10 minutes! Having been through this vicious cycle so often, I am determined to...

Hi Bluedizzy I agree with LaLaLou, I have 3 stone to lose and have started on 1500 cals a day because it gives me the room to drop the amount if I plateau. I also find that on 1500 I can eat a satisfying amount of food in a day whereas on 1200 I would be hungry and so more likely to binge...
