    Tummy tuck on NHS?

Hiya, Gillian. I went to my GP for a tummy tuck a couple of years back. He referred me to a surgeon, who recommended me, but my local PCT unfortunately turned me down for funding. It really is a postcode lottery, i'm afraid, so you'll just have to jump through the hoops and see what happens...

Hiya, Dragonfly. Thank you. :) Funnily enough, I have a friend who's in the process of loosing weight, and she will clearly have loose skin. She too has had surgery in the past, and says that her experiences would stop her from ever going through with cosmetic surgery. I can understand that...

I thought i'd post on here, as this is where most of my 'friends' are. I have hardly told anyone in 'real life' either, to be honest, as it's...

is it ok not to say it????

There's absolutely nothing wrong with you having lost your weight through diet and exercise. I imagine that most people in the gym will also be watching their diet in some way, so you're nothing unusual in that respect. I think you're perfectly entitled to keep quiet about exactly what diet...

Opinions on "cooking" packs (also features discussions on the bars)

Personally, i've always thought that cooking packs is a bad idea. The whole point of cd, is that it's designed to give you 100% of everything your body needs, to maintain optimum health whilst on so few calories. Even if cooking just one pack a day, you're reducing those vits, minerals, etc down...

I'm sorry to say, but it's been almost three years since I lost my weight, and my loose skin hasn't gone back at all. :sigh: Obviously though, everybody's different, so it could turn out okay with you. Kelly: If you could hunt that guy down for me now, that'd be great. ;) Jo x

coming out of ketosis for bday?

I'd agree with Linda, in the sense that you should work up to it for a few days beforehand. Your body will now be very used to going without carbs...

What an eloquent and intelligently written post. I have to agree with you. You aren't supposed to embark on ss if your weight isn't over BMI 25 plus one stone, but, if you're already ssing, you can now continue until BMI 25. You mustn't be on a vlcd at a BMI of under 25 however, so need to be on 810 by then. Jo x

BMI question - I may be shot down in flames here......

I agree with KD. Once I got down to one and a half stone above what's considered to be a healthy BMI for my height, I looked 'slim enough' and felt great. At another half a stone down, I stopped dieting. I did briefly lose another half a stone (still about 4/5lbs above 'healthy), and actually...

    Becoming a CDC..What BMI?

The rule is to have a BMI of 28 or under, but, as Keeley says, you can start the process off beforehand. Your BMI does have to be recorded on the sponsorship forms though, so you'd need to be close to a BMI of 28 when you start the ball rolling with your cdc. Regarding overweight cdcs... the...

So Many Jealous People Out There!

KD, that is one of the nicest things I have ever heard. What a wonderful description of a person - shame that we all don't see people like that, huh? "He never frowns." :) I'm not sure that I ever experienced jealousy, either. I was finishing uni at the time, so didn't have colleagues, or a...

    confusion regarding Ketosis

It's because cd only puts you in a mild state of ketosis. On Atkins, you're aiming for under 20g of carbs per day, and on cd you're consuming around 43g per day. There are actually different states of ketosis, as the stix are measuring how many ketones are in your urine. You should have less...

    TUMMY TUCK ON THE NHS

Yes, it is quite frustrating that it all depends on where you live! You are on Cambridge, I assume? I'm not entirely sure about LL, but I think you're right that you can do abstinance on LL until you're well into a healthy BMI range. Yvonne is right, as that's still the rrp. The annual price rise is due in July. As has been said, a cdc is self-employed, and can technically charge whatever they like. You should be ready to move to at least the 810 step, by the time you reach a BMI of 25. Therefore, it's advisable to do ss+ for at least a week once you get close to being 'healthy'. Anything under 800 cals a day is classed as a vlcd, and NICE guidelines state that you shouldn't be on a vlcd...

Please help: menu for Cambridge Conference...

I've had an answerphone message from Cambridge asking what my and my clients' menu choices are for the conference. I've had no information about the menu however, and knew nothing about there being choices until now! I'd like to contact the three clients i'm going with today, to ask them what...

    Am i wrong to lie

I never told anyone except my OH and young kids - I had to tell them, since I live with them! Fortunately for me, I embarked on Cambridge straight off the back of low-carbing, so if I had to eat, it was simple enough to let people believe I was still low-carbing. Funnily enough, even though...

I made my little girls birthday cake...look....

That is some cake - very impressive! I love baking and cake-making, so I always do my own for my kids' and partner's birthdays! I did a 'Princess Barbie' one for my daughter's 5th, where the cake was the skirt of a ballgown, and the top half was a proper Barbie. Your creation probably beats...

What is the heaviest you have been when you've flown?

The heaviest i've flown at was around sixteen and a half stone. I didn't need an extension belt, but the 'regular' belt didn't have much more room left. That's one of the great things about losing the weight - I now feel like I have loads of room on plane seats! I'm sure you'll be fine, so...

Ladies hair cuts, how much do you pay & where do you go??

I think I pay around £20 for a wash and cut - never exactly sure of the indvidual price, as I take my kids along too! What are your plans for Christmas regarding food?

I was fortunate enough to have done ss between Feb and July, so didn't have a Christmas to contend with! However, for four/five months prior to Cambridge, I was on Atkins. I surprised myself by sticking to it over Christmas - I ate whatever I liked, so long as it was low carb! I had the meat and...

curious how many grams of carbs can you eat to keep you in ketosis

As 'soontobegorgeous' says, it really depends on the person. I did Atkins for around five months prior to cd, so i'm quite hot on the whole carb thing! Everyone has different levels of tolerance - some people find that simply having the bars (which are higher in carbs than the shakes/soups)...

    "The experiment" Part 1 Done

I find this one to be a really difficult dilemna. As Icemoose has said, in my experience from clients, weight loss tends to slow down a little if they're doing lots of exercise. On the other hand, it seems 'wrong' to discourage exercise, as it's a great habit to get into if you want to change...

    Alcohol...

That sounds fairly similar to the way I maintain my weight. Have you fallen of the waggon and picked yourself up again?

I'm glad you've made a decision, Chitty, and I hope it's the right one for you! So, had did your day on 790 go? It's perfectly reasonable for you to go onto 790 given the weight you're at - as you say, just don't panic about being the 'perfect' weight for your hols! I know we all get hung up...

    Becoming a CDC

That's okay - in turn, i've only just realised that you have replied! Although £1.60 is slightly under the rrp, I can assure you that your cdc is charging more than it costs her. Cambridge don't pay us at all. The way it works is, cdcs buy the packs off Cambridge HQ at the base price, and...

    Wanted - CD Counsellors / Medical experts / "Know it all's" ;o)

This seems to be an ongoing problem with a lot of personal trainers/gym workers. Have a look at this thread, as it may answer some of your questions: http://www.minimins.com/cambridge-diet-forum/20142-okay-so-i-just-went-my-gym-induction.html I hope that helps somewhat. Jo x

    two questions

I've never heard of menthol acting like alcohol??! I'm not sure i'd believe that. The problem with chewing gum is that it can make you hungry - because you're chewing, the brain sends signals to the stomach to expect food; your stomach starts contracting and producing gastric acids in...

    Just wondering on AAM

No leeks i'm afraid, as they're quite high in carbs. Garlic powder contains around 7g of carbs per tablespoon, so should be okay if you use a very small amount. Jo x

    Becoming a CDC

Oh, and, just to add - you would need to have a BMI of under 28 before you can become a cdc. As Lesly says, you would then need to speak to your cdc, as she would have to apply for you and sponsor you. Hope that helps. :) Jo x

    Becoming a CDC

When you say that your cdc charges 'what it costs her', could I ask how much she does actually charge? I love being a cdc, but can't imagine anyone being able to put all that time in and make absolutely no money out of it! At the end of the day, we all earn money from our work, and can't afford...

    Peanut Crunch Bars

You must also remember that the peanut bars also contain around 40cals more than the sachets/tetras, so, by having 3 a day you'd be adding an extra 120cals to the diet. Carb/ketosis-wise it is fine to have both of the 'crunch' bars 3 times per day. As i've said though, you'll incur extra...

KD Rambles No. 2 Food addiction and peptides

Don't get me wrong - not every day is like that for me! I've learned to recognise my trigger foods though, and so long as I don't eat a packet of biscuits, box of cakes, etc, then I don't want them. They're the only types of foods I tend to crave, but I only crave them if I start eating them...

You're very welcome. :) You'll probably feel better once you've got through day one - you'll certainly stop craving carbs so much by day two anyway! I have faith in you because i've been there, done that! The last stone or so is always the hardest, because we actually look 'okay' at that...

Hi there, Karion. I've just discovered this thread, so have read the whole of it with great interest. Have you fallen of the waggon and picked yourself up again?

If you're finding it so difficult to get into ketosis, why not low-carb for a few days, then ss once you're already there? If you eat the foods listed for 790, but as much as you feel you need, and little but often (that way you shouldn't get hungry!), then you'll be in ketosis in no time - plus...
  195. JustJo

Have you fallen of the waggon and picked yourself up again?

As you've noticed, the reason why it's so hard to re-start is because you're no longer in ketosis so start to really struggle during that mid-afternoon 'slump'! This always seems worse than during the first ever few days of Cambridge for some reason - possibly because your body 'knows' this time...

    Sooo...does Atkins really work??

I did Atkins for five months a few years back. I lost a stone and a half in the first couple of months, but my weight loss simply stalled after that - I maintained perfectly though! The high fat content in Atkins is only unhealthy if you eat a high fat content! As 'not-so-little' says, you...

You're very welcome, Sandra - i'm glad I was able to reassure you. :) I actually tend to discourage my cd clients from buying ketostix, as I consider them to be quite unreliable, and they can cause despondancy if they don't turn pink. I'm not in Ketosis

Loads of people can't get the stick to turn pink on vlcds, so please don't worry about it - it doesn't mean you're not in ketosis! This is quite an ongoing thing with Boots. Almost three years ago, before I did Cambridge, I low-carbed for around five months. I used to port on a low-carb forum and was immediately made aware that Boots often wouldn't sell the stix to low-carbers. I can't remember which pharmacy I got my...

    Swapping LL for CD-Any Advice??

The counselling on cd varies depending on your counsellor, as obviously there are both good and bad counsellors out there. When I did cd, my counsellor was just a supplier really and gave no support, which is what inspired me to become a CDC myself. Some counsellors do one-to-one sessions...

To be honest, I think they've now changed tack simply as a precautionary measure to cover their backs. I know of one person from the pink site (a counsellor at the time, so probably in touch with Cambridge HQ) who lost her baby early on and was convinced that ketosis caused it. If I remember...

    difference between diets

It was very unproffesional and irresponsible of your LL counsellor to say that to you about Cambridge. ATKINS bars

The whole point of Cambridge bars/shakes/soups is that 3 a day gives you the RDA of absolutely everything your body needs. They are a 'superfood', if you like. An Atkins bar will be low-carb, and possibly low enough in calories, but will not provide the correct amounts of vitamins, nutrients...

Thanks, tatty - it would seem that the topic has garnered a lot of interest. :) To be fair, it would seem that the majority of responses have come from people who have maintained the weight without the use of shakes, etc, so there is still hope! Research shows that any diet reduces your...

Ketosis - coming out -how soon?

Milk contains 5g of carbs per 100ml. Cambridge is calculated to be just under the ketosis level for most people. As has been said, everyone's ketosis levels are different - therefore, some people can get away with adding more carbs to their diet, whereas some can't. As sim says, if you're...
