    Week 19, I've lost ... 6 stone

The water mixes do help. Yes, there is no point doing it unless you're really committed and ready. At my first class our consultant said to us "If you follow this. it is going to work" and that made me cry - realising that really this time, it's going to happen can be quite emotional. I...

    Week 19, I've lost ... 6 stone

I planned to do more exercise (cycling), but didn't get that much done. I walked quite a bit and found that as the weight came off, the amount of general activity I did increased naturally. My number 1 tip would be to really keep your fluid intake up. Some people will tell you that's to...

    Cant wait to start...anyone else?

Good luck to all of you! 2012 will be an exciting and fresh year for you if stay committed. Exciting times :-D P.S. You'll find that the first week goes easier if you've already started cutting back on the carbs. However tempting it is with all the Christmas/New Year food around, don't go on...

    Bars

I never found that they slowed down weight loss and had 10 or 12 a week for months, sometimes 14 - so frequently 2 a day. I think if they trigger you and that causes you to eat something, then yes that could slow down your loss, but otherwise I think it's a complete myth.

    Week 19, I've lost ... 6 stone

I haven't been on here in months - life has been a bit hectic. Anyway, my update is that I reached my goal at the end of October and am now a bit under it! 140 was my original goal actually, but thought it was probably too ambitious when I was starting out. I started out as a size 22. Have...

Having a tattoo while on a VLCD

So my original appointment had to be postponed, but went ahead today. I did eat breakfast this morning - no/completelynimal carbs though and then had a LL shake before I went. Half way through I had a LL bar. At the end I was very wobbly, but am OK now. It's just the outline, but for those...

Oh no, have eaten 5 packs instead of 4 today....

It's eating carbohydrates that will take you out of ketosis. The packs have minimal carbohydrates so I doubt whether an extra one would be enough to do it. I regularly forget to have all 4 - oops :)

    Week 19, I've lost ... 6 stone

I can't believe that it's true, but it is. I'm quite overwhelmed by this milestone and feel quite tearful. Goal is only 1.5 stone away, it's a strange place to be in, but boy does it feel good.

Having a tattoo while on a VLCD

It's happening this coming Saturday! Well, 3 hours of it anyway :) In total it's going to be about 5 or 6 hours. The second session is in October and I may be off the VLCD (but on Route to Management) by then. I will probably eat before the tattoo on Saturday, but just protein.

    VCLD - Pros & Cons

Saggy skin can occur after slow weight loss too - it very much depends on an individual's skin elasticity and how long/how much they were overweight. Bear in mind that people embarking on a VLCD are likely to be a) very overweight and b) overweight for many years so the fact that some are left...

    50lbs since 6 May!

I've been really rubbish about keeping up with my diary, but thought I had to mark this one. I've completed 10 weeks and have hit 50lbs tonight. People who are just starting, don't give up, don't think you can't do this. You really can and before you know it the weeks (and pounds) are...

    Can you tell me about?

There are two options. One is TFR and the other, Lighter Life Lite, is 3 packs plus a meal. I suggest you contact your local LL counsellor and get some advice. I'm not sure how soon post-partum (and congratulations, by the way) you can start.

Benefits - sensible & silly (probably more silly than sense!)

    1. I can get into a lot of my old clothes and it's being noticed by friends. 2. I've been seeing someone (not very seriously, but it's been lovely) and there are definitely benefits to having lost weight, but I won't go into those in too much detail! ;)

    I had to eat today

Today I had to go to a team lunch as the final part of an interview process for a job. I spoke to my LLC about it and we agreed that I should eat, but to make helpful choices. I had a grilled salmon salad and had as few obvious carbs as possible (not sure about green beans and olives?) I...

    Not losing enough weight

That looks more or less on track for 1 stone a month though? To get to 2 stone in 9/10 weeks seems pretty reasonable - you'd only need another 3 x 3lbs losses.

    VCLD - Pros & Cons

The fact is that unless you make substantial and permanent lifestyle changes after a diet, you will put the weight back on - no matter what diet and no matter how long it takes to lose the weight. Wow, a grown man did that and in a professional context?! Pathetic. It must've been hurtful, but he doesn't know the first thing about you and it just justifies your original reasons for not having anything to do with him.
  28. P

How do you cope with an emotional day without food?

Just remind yourself: If hunger isn't the problem, food isn't the solution :) VLCDs are there to break our habits of emotional eating and to teach us that we can get through anything without food/booze. You're going to feel good tomorrow when you realise you can do it. Good luck and hope you...

    Ketosis Concerns

Type 1 diabetes is very different from adult-onset or type 2 diabetes and ketoacidosis is rare in type 2. Don't worry, it's really unlikely that you'd have type 1 diabetes without knowing :) Ketoacidosis also has pretty severe and obvious symptoms of being really unwell first too. You'll be fine.
  33. P

    Ketosis Concerns

Ketoacidosis happens in type 1 diabetics and alcoholics. It is a life threatening condition, but is not the same as ketosis. It is important however to drink water to flush out the ketones.
  34. P

    non-alcoholic wedding

I don't think it's any more 'controlling' than them choosing the menu options, or the venue or anything else they've decided about an event they're choosing to host. People are *invited* as guests and quite welcome not to go if having alcohol is that important to them.

Heeellp - Ketosis question :( *cross posted*

A body will not go into ketosis if there is glucose or glycogen available, it just can't/won't. If the body has enough carbohydrate available, it will use it. Always. People can be in ketosis on very high calorie diets too - for example, Atkins or people on ketogenic diets for medical reasons...

Ketosis - really need some help asap!

  45. P

Ketosis - really need some help asap!

If you're in the last two shades of pink, you should probably try drink water as it can be a sign you've not drunk enough. Don't overdo it and now go gulp down several litres, but you do need to flush the ketones out of your system. Hope that helps.

  49. P

You know what I find weird on LL?

My weight doesn't fluctuate like it used to. Before, my weight could go up and down all day, every day. I weigh myself a lot and since starting LL, it doesn't vary an ounce on the scales at different times of the day. It'll STS (exactly) for a day or two and then drop some pounds at a random...

  64. P

Do you sometimes not want all 4 packs?

Yeah, I will do. This week I grabbed lots of different things to try out and, but think I'll have a better idea next time (tomorrow evening) and will save a bar each evening. I'm just really not hungry at all, but have had one soup and will have have the other at 10 or something.

It's 8pm and I've had two packs already today. I have got two soups for tonight, but really really can't be bothered. I will though because I know it's for the nutrients, but feel like it's going to be a chore. Guess, I better go have the first one ...

I'm doing it at home, but we are thinking of relocating and if we do then I will probably go along to a group as a way of meeting new people. If you're doing well at home, then stick with it. Going to a group is the key for lots of people though.

    Strozapretti pesto rosso! (absoloutly delish!)

Oh thanks for that. It's one of my favourite things to eat at Zizzi's. Yum! :)
  125. P

    Now THAT is will power!

That's brilliant ... and very funny :D We used to get fish and chips quite often and it always made me feel sick. It's just so greasy and reading up on the calories afterwards ... eek!
  126. P

I did it plus a before and after pic

Well done on the race - you look positively glowing :) That 2.5 stone is a very noticeable loss on you. Brilliant.

HELP from mummys who have breastfed and given a bottle.

Have you tasted the milk to check it's OK? Some women have a lot of lipase (an enzyme) in their milk and it can cause their expressed milk to taste soapy or sour even when it's been stored correctly. This can be a reason for a baby not taking expressed milk. I'm so sorry to hear the doidy cup...

    Dr Who?

Ooh, I really enjoyed last night's episode and can't wait to see what happens next. I really wasn't sure about Matt Smith either, but he's grown on me.
  129. P

HELP from mummys who have breastfed and given a bottle.

I agree with MadameLaMinx - he probably will take a bottle if you're not around. Lots of babies will refuse if mum is nearby. They don't really see the point of taking a bottle if they can get it on tap :) Presumably you've checked the milk to see that it tastes OK and that there isn't any...

    Rooibos tea??

I wonder if it is brand related as Leapfrog suggests. I grew up in South Africa where Rooibos tea is extremely common and haven't heard of that - which isn't to say it doesn't happen, just that I'm not sure it's widely known side-effect there.

    Nando's Advice please

    7 deadly syns

    That's great - and very funny :)
  134. P

Why do i do it ????

What about buying yourself a treat you can have with your syns ahead of time? Or a non-food treat? But yeah, I know what you mean. I was a lot more relaxed yesterday and had an ice-cream after I weighed myself.

    Fox attack.... or was it??

They don't usually attack adult humans, but these were 9 month old babies - there's quite a massive difference there. As adults we are many many times their size. How often do foxes have access to infants without an adult around? I just can't see a motivation for the parents to blame a fox...

    New muller lights

Arggghh! I've been to 4 different supermarkets (1 very big Tesco, 1 smallish Tesco, 1 Waitrose and 1 biggish Sainsburys) and none of them had these. Woe.
  139. P

    I've just reached target!!!

Any chance I can still salvage my week?

Did you read the emotional eating thread that was bumped up last week? Do a search - it's worth a read. You ask whether you can salvage the week, but what's the alternative? Giving up on your goal because you had a few bad days? Is that what you want? It's not about bad weeks or good weeks...

Oh no, poor baby and poor you! :( What an awful fright that must've given you. They all have tumbles so try not to feel guilty, but I know just how you feel. Hope she's feeling OK today and recovers without too much more trauma.

    Private maternity

The NHS offer a very high level of care for premature babies or where there are serious medical issues and if I were in that situation I would definitely be happy to be with the NHS. If you have private care and a complication arises, it's very easy to switch over to NHS - it doesn't mean you...

    Fox attack.... or was it??

They don't have a family pet AFAIK and I think it's 10 times more incredulous that any parent would try to protect an animal that had mauled their babies - especially in the immediate aftermath when the police and ambulance got there and especially as the children would presumably be returning...

    Fox attack.... or was it??

We used to regularly see a fox in the kitchen at my husband's house (before we were married) and the foxes around where I have lived (London) and now live (London outskirts) are not that timid or shy. We have a fox that walks through our garden and on the road outside quite openly in the day...

Congratulations! That's wonderful news :D I don't know about Cambridge when pregnant, but you can do SW when pregnant/nursing with a letter signed from your midwife. I wish I could go back and eat properly during and after pregnancy! (Instead of eating everything in sight and gaining so much)

Can you cope without a car

We went without a car (but had the use of streetcar) and it's a lot more convenient having a car with a baby than not having one - if the baby becomes unwell at 2am in the morning and you want to take them to A&E waiting for a cab and then fiddling with a car seat is not fun. When they're...

    Going back to Gym

In about October last year I joined my local Curves and really enjoyed going. In my first month I only lost 4lbs, but I was still eating very badly so I was actually quite pleased with that. My next weigh-in was just before Christmas and I had put the 4lbs back on. I wasn't particularly upset...

What a shock :( I'm not surprised you're feeling all over the place. Don't feel despondent over not finding a job yet - it's only been a few days. Sometimes losing a job can be an opportunity in disguise and a chance to do something slightly different. I'm assuming you don't have to go in to...

    New to this!

Hello :) I'm a newbie to the forum too. I've been doing SW for 2.5 weeks and am really enjoying it. Congrats on your weight loss so far. I didn't weigh myself until this Sunday so I'm not sure what I've lost so far, but I'm looking forward to finding out.
  193. P

    A bit disheartened

What diet were you following before? Wonder if it could be related to that. Don't be disheartened though. It's still early days and I'm sure those pounds will start falling soon enough. If not, there may be tweaks you can make.

Syn-free chips - mine look nothing like the pictures

OK, well I'm pleased we're all having anaemic chips together :8855: They do taste good though. Thanks for the tips re drying them out in the microwave and potato wedges. I'll give both of those ideas a go.

Syn-free chips - mine look nothing like the pictures

    SW & Breastfeeding

I trained with the Breastfeeding Network (google them and then look for training), although the other BF charities also run peer support programs.
