    Alcohol, my final battle...

Oh and what really really annoys me about myself is I felt so good in Jan and it wasn't even that difficult to do. Obviously have no will power where red wine is concerned.

    Alcohol, my final battle...

I haven't read this whole thread but I'm the same. Did dryathlon, lost weight and felt really proud. Then had a horrible Feb and have been drinking way too much. I've decided to stop again, hopefully for another month to get back into losing weight and also saving cash.

SW Minimins Dryathlon Team (Alcohol Free January)

Just checking in to say well done to everyone! Can't actually believe I've managed this and do feel proud of myself! Also panicking about syns as I've got used to having a Curly Wurly or a light choccy trifle of an evening but I'm going to try and keep a lid on wine consumption so that I can...

    From Home

Hi I do SW from home, which I find the easiest. If I do WW or cal counting I seem to choose 'nice' foods within my allowance that don't fill me up so I get hungry and then it all falls apart! I have bought a food guide off Ebay though which I couldn't be without. Do you know anyone that goes to...

SW Minimins Dryathlon Team (Alcohol Free January)

Morning all! I had a golden pass yesterday (feel like I've cheated lol!) and had a couple of large glasses of red. I was worried I'd struggle to do the rest of the month after getting the taste back but felt really rough this morning so if anything, its reinforced how nice it is waking up with a...

SW Minimins Dryathlon Team (Alcohol Free January)

I may be missing a glass of red, but at least its showing on the scales - 3lbs off this week (although I didn't go back on plan until last Monday so its probably just Xmas excess coming off again!)

SW Minimins Dryathlon Team (Alcohol Free January)

Totally agree - I'm sooooo scared that I'll go back to the old habit of 'its the weekend so I'll have a drink'. I'm not missing it that much (although I did decide last night that I'm more boring without it :D).

What do you drink of an evening? (Non alcoholic)

I love St Clements (orange juice and bitter lemon) and make it syn free using sugar free orange squash and diet bitter lemon - not quite as nice as the proper version but not too sweet.

SW Minimins Dryathlon Team (Alcohol Free January)

Really pleased that I've got through the first Friday / Saturday night barrier unscathed - my t'other half has also gone dry for Jan so thats a big help. Casualty on BBC1 seemed a lot more graphic than usual cos the alcohol normally takes the edge of the gory bits lol! Wish I could say that I'm...

SW Minimins Dryathlon Team (Alcohol Free January)

Really stressful day... Would normally be forgetting it and having a glass of wine but have somehow (not sure how) managed to avoid going to the offy. Instead I am drinking a non-alcoholic shot type drink :-). Feel very proud but scared that I'm only on day 3 :-(

SW Minimins Dryathlon Team (Alcohol Free January)

I'm hoping to break the bad habit of having a glass of wine (or 2) to unwind after a hard day at work or problems with my asd son. Also, to save some cash and lose weight more easily as not saving syns for wine (!!). I'm also hoping that my skin looks better - seems very dull and I'm definitely...

Good for you getting back on plan! My son has autism too and I know how much I turn to food when the going gets tough. I'll be starting again in the New Year and really hope I can lose a few stone before I turn 40 later in 2013 (eek!). Good luck xxx

    Vegetables: Fresh v frozen

The only frozen veg I struggle with is broccoli - maybe its me but it seems to go soggy even if I'm really careful. Things like green beans, peas, sweetcorn are really good though. I've noticed a lot of supermarkets doing frozen stew packs - has anyone made veggie soup out of these just by...

    Soft fruit vs Hard fruit

I'm just a bit weird with fruit full stop. The thought of biting into over ripe fruit makes me feel ill - as a result, I struggle to eat it. Love raspberries and pineapple, can cope with melon and satsumas (but not clementines!) and like a nice slice of lemon or lime in a G&T but thats about it...

    Extra Easy Wine lovers

I love a nice glass of cab sauv! I tend to limit my syns in the week and 'save' them for a few glasses at the weekend. Ok, it may slow down any losses, but makes the plan do-able so I can stick with it. I know that if I had to cut out wine altogether, I'd give up!

    What pushes you?

    Cheap ideas

I know this doesn't reduce the cost of fruit and veg but one way to save a bit of money is to reduce the quantity of extra-lean or Quorn mince used in a recipe and replace it with lentils (either tinned if you can pick them up cheap or dried red ones). I do this with spag bol and cottage pie...

    slow but sure

I've lost half a stone in 5 weeks - not exactly speedy but I'm not 100% all the time, don't eat enough fruit for one thing. But, if I can stick with it long term, I'll get there eventually which is better than being really good and crashing off plan (which I've tended to do in the past).

Good luck!! Pretty similar to myself - lost nearly a stone last year, gave up, faffed about with WW online for a bit, put all the weight back on, now doing SW at home. No plans for speedy losses, just need to keep going :)

    New SWer - Measuring?!!!

I bought a water bottle that holds 350ml for my skimmed milk - fill it up at the start of the day and when its gone its gone (think allowance used to be 350ml not 375ml). I find this easy to take to and from work as I drink most coffee when I'm there. I use digital scales every morning to...

What are your top weight loss tips??

Careful planning to make sure there are always superfree, free and low syn foods in the house to snack on - Mullers, Mugshots, satsumas, frozen raspberries, Quorn fillets, etc. Being able to eat something stops me from picking up a pack of crisps or choc biscuit. I also agree with the comments...

    Newbie, vegetarian help please?

Hi! A few ideas - curries, casseroles, pasta sauces made with pulses instead of Quorn (I do a lentil bolognese which may sound a bit odd, but I really like it!). Could you make a 'hidden veg' pasta sauce with toms, carrots, onion, garlic and celery wizzed up in a blender? I use this to make...

    Healthy 'B' Cereals

I sometimes have a Dorset Cereals raspberry & cranberry porridge sachet - make it with water and then stir in a Muller Lite vanilla yoghurt (to save my milk for the copious amounts of coffee I usually drink). In all honesty, its not as nice as making it with milk but it makes a huge bowlful!

Aldi Cheese Emporium Smooth & Creamy Soft Cheese Reduced Fat

Hi All Bought this the other day thinking I could use it as a Hex B on a green day but its not in my Free Branded Foods book. I've compared the nutritional info with Phlli Light and am confuzzled! Aldi is 155 cal per 100g, with 11g protein and 11g fat Philli is 155 cal per 100g, with 8.2g...

    If it's a snack it's not free?

I hope its not true - I think I would start to struggle a bit. The thing I love about SW is being able to eat if I'm hungry and not just being limited to fruit. Its my safety net and stops me eating rubbish like crisps and cake.
  69. mollymooz

Syns - why are some free and others not!?

I think its all about using calories on food that will fill you up for longer so you don't need to eat anything else for a reasonable period of time. A mugshot will keep me going for a few hours whereas a choccie bar wouldn't. I also think the very low fat yoghurt thing is to do whether they...
