So... someone explain Atkins and how it works practically to me?

Yes you're correct boggins - as a fellow avid Taubes fan and owner of both The Diet Delusion and WWGF, I can confirm that WWGF covers pretty much the same topics as The Diet Delusion, but in a much lighter, easier to read way, so if you are going to get just one book I would probably recommend...

    All inclusive holiday!!

I returned from 2 weeks' camping in the south of France yesterday to find I've gained 6 pounds. I'm afraid I couldn't resist all those carb-laden croissants, crepes, baguettes, pizza, and not to mention French WINE! But you know what? I had such a good time and enjoyed the break soooo much...

Newbie question! Pepsi Max and Milk?

I've tried soya milk in tea and coffee, but found that it tends to curdle. I now drink green tea or black coffee, both with a couple of sweeteners even though I don't usually take sugar. Coke Zero would be a better option than Pepsi Max.

Me again !! sorry i need help :)

I now drink black coffee, but I put 2 sweeteners in it even though I don't normally take sugar in my tea or coffee.

    Fearing the Fat !

I really, really, REALLY recommend you (and everyone else on this forum) read Why We Get Fat And What To Do About It by Gary Taubes. This will totally put your mind at rest about fearing the fat, and explains exactly how and why this diet works, and why it's much healthier for you than the...

    Cauli Rice

Yes, I find it invaluable as a substitution for the carby things, especially rice and pasta. Just whizz up half a cauliflower in a food processor then either nuke it with a bit of water for a few minutes or boil it like you would rice. It can be flavoured with anything from your herbs and...

busy week at the national carb fest ....

Yes, I'm on a damage limitation exercise too today - I went away with the family for the weekend so decided it would be easier to forget the diet for the weekend, as we were eating out for lunch and dinner every day. 5lb on this morning. 4lb of it will be water. Trouble is, we're away...

    Any Alcohol ??

My fave drinks are white wine and vodka and diet coke (not all in the same glass!). I have a drink or two in the evenings some days and I haven't noticed any difference in my weight loss and it hasn't knocked me out of ketosis. So I'm sure a G&T (as long as its slimline tonic) will be fine...

    isnt it not the calories

J2BLUE, it's great to see another person as big a Taubes fan as me!! I'm still reading the Diet Delusion (its a hefty tome and not something you can really skim through so its taking a while!) and have ordered Why We Get Fat from Amazon (I really hope it arrives today!). I'm doing a lot of...

    isnt it not the calories

If you eat excess fat, you won't gain weight, but you won't lose it either. An explanation on where the excess fat goes is here The Blog of Michael R. does anyone carb cycle

Never heard of it, but as I'm doing Atkins I googled it to find out what it is. Now I've read up on it I wouldn't bother, it sounds like your weight will go up and down like a yo-yo, as you will just regain all the water weight on carb days. And its very demotivating to have to lose all the...

    New Atkins book

I shouldn't worry too much, I think the main difference is that the new version recommends more veggies (green leafy veg) than the old version. If you've been following the induction correctly from the old book you will be fine. :)

    Chinese and Indian??

Oh dear, I was hoping for more suggestions than this! We are planning on having a takeaway tomorrow, but last time we had an Indian a few weeks ago, I suffered REALLY badly from carb overload. Chocolate birthday cake recipe anyone?

Chocolate mim mixture? Use the mim recipe on the sticky, omit the cinnamon and add cocoa powder instead. One teaspoon of cocoa powder is right for one mim, so you would need to scale up the amounts for a cake. Top with whipped cream.

Is it possible to do Atkins on a tight budget

OK, you guys have finally persuaded me. When we went camping in the south of France last year, the supermarket next to the campsite was a Lidl and it was brilliant! OK, it didn't have everything - we drove to a hypermarket 3 or 4 miles away for the "big shops", but for the everyday items the...

How can I make Atkins food more exciting?

I often find that the hardest part is not the mains, its finding an interesting replacement for the carb-laden accompaniments (pasta, rice and potatoes). We have just had spag bol for tea and I had the bol with salad... again. I discovered cauli rice this week and that has helped a lot, but...

    Finally cracked it NO CHEESE!

Yes, although cheese is very low carb, we still have to bear in mind that it is also highly calorific - roughly 120 calories per 30g serving, and 30g for me is a tiny amount and I always end up having much more than that! So it is best eaten sparingly. Same with double cream - 135 calories for...

Hi and welcome! I'm reading The Diet Delusion at the moment, I'm about half way through it. What a fascinating read! Even though I haven't finished it yet it has made me look at the health food and diet industry in a whole new light, as it appears that despite the millions of pounds spent on...

Well, I made these last night, and they sank when I took them out of the oven, and stuck to the baking sheet, so I had to scrape them off, so they didn't look great (note to self - grease the baking sheet next time... or make them in ramekins.). Aaaargh!! Water weight!

OK, so due to several reasons I slipped off the Atkins wagon at the weekend and ate normally. Of course, I knew even before I weighed myself yesterday that I'd gained weight - I could tell just by looking at my tummy in the mirror, I'd put it all on around my middle. And I was right, I'd...
