I'm resisting stepping on scales this week

Constant weighing is a problem of mine as well. This is my first week of restarting and I've managed to resist, mainly because I suspect it won't be good and that will upset me. Trying to only do it once a week is really hard!

Does anyone do slimming world online?

I thought that maybe I wouldn't find it disciplined enough, as ultimately I could lie or just not enter my weight if I didn't want to. But I do genuinely feel committed and anytime I've been tempted to nibble I think about my first week weigh in! Saying that, we are eating out today as we have...

anyone else got a rubbish/indifferent consultant?

Interesting to see such mixed opinions. My consultant was a nice lady but fairly useless at the job. She never gave out recipes, tips or anything of much use. She'd do something like tell us the new magazine was out and then flick through to a male slimmer story and giggle about whether he was...

    Bread advice?

Hi all I've already posted this on the syns board but hoped to get more opinions here. Is there any form of white bread or roll that counts as a HEb? I adore bread but hate brown bread, however much I try to eat it. Apparently WW petit pain is ok, any more advice or help people can offer with...

    Bread help?

I don't really like to use cereal as my HE - combined with milk that's both my HE gone in one go. So looks like there is no white I can use, anyone know any low syn white bread? Something like WW or nimble?

    Bread help?

This might be the wrong place to post this, but I couldn't find a better place. I adore bread, it's probably the one food I struggle with when dieting. I know EE allows one portion of bread a day as a HEb - but does anyone know of any form of white bread that is allowed? Or some form of white...

    Depressing reality check :(

Yes I agree. I love SW but it does involve planning and thinking. I've decided to start today, these replies have given me a push as I can see how much encouragement or support there is here. Thank you all. We are not going shopping until Friday so am going to make do until then. Have lots of...

    Depressing reality check :(

I have done SW before and had success. I lost 3st about 5 years ago but then let it slip. Last summer I was doing really well and was just about to start exercising to boost the loss when I had an accident and broke a toe. 3 weeks of bed rest, combined with pain, boredom and money worries as I...

    Depressing reality check :(

Thanks for the support everyone, it's made me feel a lot better. I was so depressed in the shop - didn't help that it was a horrible hot day and the service in the shop was awful. I could really feel my stress levels rising!! I know moaning and whining won't get me anywhere, but to have actually...

    Depressing reality check :(

I know full well I'm the heaviest I have ever been and am preparing to give SW yet another go. I have to succeed this time, my weight is seriously keeping me stuck in a cycle of depression, low self-esteem and hopelessness that I can't break out of. I can't go on feeling like this. Today was a...

Is it true you will only lose weight & stick to it when you want to...

I understand what you mean. I guess a doctor would say for health reasons that you should diet if you are overweight, regardless of how you feel in terms of clothes, appearance etc... However, in reality it's difficult to be 100% committed if deep down you are quite happy. Why not cut the word...

    getting on track

I want to be thin by thirty!

Kitty blue I totally understand. I was always ok with being overweight but at the age of 21 I decided i'd had enough and vowed to lose weight. Well im now 28 and a half and heavier than ever!! I've never achieved this dream and it's blighted my 20s. I really want to achieve this before 30.

    Disappointed

I'm actually quite glad to see that I'm not the only person who was disappointed with the group. Losing faith :(

I understand how you feel. Some subs are...

What is everyones verdict on red green v ee?

I tend to vary depending on what food I fancy. If I know I'm having a carb dinner like SW chips and beans I'll make it green. If I fancy jacket potatoes then I make it an EE as it means I can load up on plenty of tuna. A bit of variation between the 3 is probably a good option.

    Worth joining online?

    Worth joining online?

Hi everyone. Has anyone got an opinion on whether it is worth becoming an online member? I joined a group last year for 2 months and have to admit I was disappointed. It felt more like a social club, gossiping about X Factor and Take That rather than weight loss support. I've read so many SW...

    can I stuff my face!!??

I agree with everything here. I always go for fruit first, then yogurts and then a boiled egg if I'm still hungry. If you really fill up on fruit and make sure you are drinking plenty of water, I find you rarely need to start snacking on free foods.

    Is SW really the answer?

Actually whenever I do stick to SW properly I don't often have loads of syns. I like to have as few as possible during the week in case my top craving - wine - kicks...

Ready to make 2012 my year!!

2012 is going to be my year too. I'm sure people I know would be cynical if I said that, as I've started and failed diets constantly since the age of 12. Extra Easy bread addiction.....

I absolutely adore bread. I try to avoid it as much as possible on SW as I really only like white bread which is obviously highly naughty. I don't enjoy brown bread, and if I have it I always want to smother it in butter, so generally bread is best avoided for me :( White toast with loads of...

    Cheat Days when dieting?!

I never have a regular cheat/treat day. I also know people who after their weekly weigh-in get a pizza or curry. If that works for them then great, but it wouldn't for me. If I told myself that every saturday was my treat day, I would scoff fattening food whether I want to or not. For me...

Will still lose changing to just green days? after only doing red for 4 months?????

Green is still part of the SW plan so I don't see why you won't lose. Plus, after such a long time on red, it can do your body good to change your diet a bit as it can get complacent on the same plan everyday :)

Why is having the cold making me put on weight?!!!

I agree. It is well proven that having a horrible cold actually puts strain on your heart and the medical advice is to stay in bed and just get yourself well! without meetings??

A few years ago I lost 3 stone on my own, using the internet, SW magazine and some old books from ebay to help me. Without doubt it can be done. However, having now joined a group, I personally find the weekly discipline keeps me much more focussed. When I lost my 3 stone, I had a weekend of...

Pls help me get out of this rut!

I really sympathise :( I was so unmotivated last week, kept eating chocolate and cakes and ignoring the fruit. I was feeling depressed and couldn't motivate myself to do anything. Personally, I think going to weigh in is a tremendously good step in terms of refocussing as you are facing up to...

    Newbie

17lb's in 2 weeks is pretty remarkable. Whilst I understand your envy at such a massive weight loss, I would say that trying to aspire to such a massive weekly amount is unrealistic. You are doing fab - 1 stone on your own, plus 3lb's in your first week? That's fantastic progress. What you are...

    August Team Challenge

Great idea. I am going on holiday the second week of August, so a 7 week challenge sounds great. I am going to aim for 20lb's - sounds a lot I know, but I haven't been dieting long and think I'm still capable of shifting some chunky bits of weight. I also prefer setting myself a difficult rather...

    Darn Photos!

I had to endure a terrible pic of me for months on facebook until I realised I could detag! I was at a wedding, my face is shiny and I'm smiling widely which is creating a double chin :( Even worse, I was sitting down so my dress had ridden up slightly over my knees, revealing the start of my...

What did you miss on other 'diets'?

I don't actually even remember if my weight loss was any good, I was on it for such a short time! I also believe strongly that any diet that makes you obsessed with food cannot be good. On Aitkins, I literally thought about food all day, craving carbs so badly and unable to concentrate properly...

What did you miss on other 'diets'?

I did Aitkins once and only stuck it a week as I felt so sick, lightheaded and shaky the wholetime. I genuinely didn't enjoy any of the benefits of Aitkins as I couldn't enjoy unlimited meat and cheese without my favourite carbs to go with them. I did slimfast and just really missed being...

    Extra Easy :(

Going to your weigh in and facing up to the consequences of a bad few days is the best thing you can do. Going to my weigh in last week was really hard - I knew I had gained and didn't want to face it. But pretending and lying to yourself won't help. Go to weigh in, accept the result and let it...

Extra Easy How much Fruit is too much?

I've had this debate many times with friends who believe in calories and argue that every mouthful of fruit has a calorie value and should therefore be restricted. Personally, I don't follow this at all. On SW I've been eating plenty of fruit, especially between meals to try and compensate for...

    FIRST DAY

Are you doing Extra Easy? In that case, it does indeed work as long as you try and stick to the 1/3 of superfree food at meals. My consultant told us you will still lose if you don't follow this, but it will be much slower and more likely to stop at some point. I ate plenty on my first week...

Hayley, that is exactly how I felt last week! By coincidence, I too was only 1.5lb's off my first stone, and yet totally blew it and had a 4.5lb's gain :( I too have had some personal stuff going on and was feeling very depressed, hence some comfort eating. It was awful as the week went on - the...

You've already had some pretty good answers, but I just wanted to add that you don't need to worry yourself. Anybody else feel the need to weigh less than their sister?

My sister has always been slim whereas I have always been overweight. She has always worn the sort of clothes I would kill to wear, like gorgeous fitted dresses and strappy tops. Thanks Dreamslim, I'm sorry you too know how it feels to have periods of low mood, but likewise it is comforting to know people understand. Best Tips For The Biggest WillPower

Hi Kirsty, For me, the key with SW is being organised. I work out a meal plan once a week and make sure everything I need goes on the shopping list. I find frylight a pain. We bought a really good quality pan, but a few months of frylight has ruined it and no amount of scrubbing can completely clear away the black, burnt layer. Yes, I do take medication. Generally it helps, but I get mood swings and every few weeks I tend to get a low period when I feel awful. As you rightly say, it is a vicious circle. Just wanted a general opinion on the way I've been using my syns. My weak time is the weekend, as that is when I like to have a drink and sometimes get a craving to snack.
