Thinking of switching to Atkins? Is it suitable for me?

I'd say go for it too, you'll fill so much better when you;re not full of carbs (and Redbull!!!) Drasim is right, it can be better to do more weights than cardio when on this kind of diet (I've read a thread on here somewhere about it). I do a kettlebell workout 6 days a week and feel fab on it!

    Yippeeeeeeeeeeee!

Hi Zion, I know that drinking lots of water does dilute the results so you do sometimes get a negative reading, which is why I test first thing as I drink abut 3 litres a day. When I was on CD I would get a 'ketosis taste' in my mouth and a fuzzy tongue (hmmmm nice) but haven't had either on...

Coming to Atkins for a week or two

Morning losingit! And Welcome :) It's so hard to stick to a diet like Exante if your head and heart are just not in that particular place! And the moment you are feeling deprived, that's the moment it all becomes too much I reckon. It sounds as though you're making the right choice by chosing...

    Yippeeeeeeeeeeee!

Thanks folks, it's a relief as I thought there was something *seriously* not right with me! Mustdoit, I shall be clinging onto the ketosis fairy with all my might - it's not worth risking knocking myself out :D

    Yippeeeeeeeeeeee!

Thanks Zion! Well, I cut out cheese and cream completely, used soya milk in my drinks, and didn't have anything with any citric acid in. I never get a dark pink reading, I've always had very light readings, so I test first thing in the morning as the results should be stronger then. What...

    Yippeeeeeeeeeeee!

Sorry, I just had to do that - I'm finally in ketosis! I know for most of you that's no great shakes, but I've been dithering about trying to get into ketosis for over 2 months, either on Atkins or CD. For some reason my body just wouldn't do it. And this morning..... I have a pink ketostix...

    Coming over from Lipotrim

:) I'd recommend Cambridge if you did decide to do it as the products are great and the price is ok. It's fast and furious weight loss, and that's really motivating. I was back on CD to lose my last 21lbs but for some reason I can't get into ketosis so gave up as that meant I was just ravenous...

    Coming over from Lipotrim

Alpaca, vlcds tend to give you an energy boost! However, the initial few days of hunger and headaches whilst you get into ketosis are pretty tough. It can also be awkward to follow if you have a social life!! I stuck at CD for five months and it was totally worth it, and changed my whole life...

things that motivate us on our journey :D

I have a couple of really major goals that are motivating me - firstly I was chosen to model for the Help for Heroes 2012 calendar, and oh boy, I need to get in shape for that one - the shoot is in August *yelp*, and I just cannot let anyone down by being too podgy :( Secondly, my OH is...

advice and help needed from you experts

Well we'll stick to this together! :) re the veg, I'm tending to stay safe with salad, or broccoli, i find it easier that way. There's a sticky which I think is called 'so you're thinking of starting atkins' which has a great list of veg etc.

advice and help needed from you experts

Hi Natalieann, I empathise with you as I know it just *so* difficult to get back into SSing once you have had a break - been trying to do it myself recently, and then dithering doing Atkins for a week and chopping and changing between that and SSing. And in a month not losing anything, just back...

    Fruit Tea

Tesco do a citric acid free diet coke too - by Sunsip. Plus you could always try some of the still waters with a hint of fruit - I know Tesco and Sainsbury have some with no citric acid in. At least it rings the changes a little!

    ketostix readings.

I've always been advised that as long as you have even a trace showing, that's the key thing - any positive reading at all means you're in ketosis, which is what you want! I know many people find they get a darker result in the morning as they haven't been glugging water all night, so the...

    alcoholics doing atkins

I would say there is no point in doing any kind of diet at all when she is drinking that amount of alcohol :S The body will use the alcohol as it's first source of energy so Atkins won't benefit her - does sound as though she needs some real help to sort the drinking problem out first

Ladyfelsham - thanks for that, I didn't know that cream and cheese could affect me too! Have just found out that soya milk is really low carb and low cal too, will try that instead of the cream. Sue - keep drinking the water and you'll hopefully flush the vodka out lol! Think I will make a...

    In a Dilemma...

Hiya! When I've been doing Atkins, I do stick rigidly to the Induction stage - with 12-15g carbs from vegetables and staying under 20g in total a day. I am wondering if it might be citric acid (some of my drinks contain citric acid) that has been stopping me from getting into ketosis - any...

    In a Dilemma...

Hi All! I'm hoping someone can give me some really sound advice... Anyone on here had experience of doing both VLCDs and Atkins? I lost a pretty substantial amount of weight about 4 years ago by doing Cambridge, and managed to maintain happily and quite easily, though I maintain on about...
