    Non-Scale Victories

I've been really good about fixing my portion sizes lately. For once I finally went out to a restaurant and knew right away I wouldn't come even close to finishing what they put in front of me!
  4. K

    What is/was for lunch???

Egg drop soup! Low on noodles, so not so much in carbs from that, but I added spinach to fill it out and it was really good.

30 Day Shred Challenge! Who is with me? :)

I don't really have the extra money to start with you, but I'll cheer you on! It's always so exciting to start a new type of exercise, so I wish you luck!

Finding it hard to substitute carbs.

Try learning how to cook new vegetables that you've never cooked with before. This might only work if you're interested in cooking, but I've found that the challenge keeps me interested and the new veggies gives me a variety I lose when I cut out carbs.

    My attempt at Low Carb!

If you have a slow cooker you should pick up a book on low carb slow cooker recipes. It's been a life saver for me, because I'm more motivated to cook low carb if I'm using it (I love that thing) and the recipes are really good.

Best Diet for Underactive thyroid? Really struggling.

With something specific like that I think finding a professional dietician would probably be your best bet. they can help you make sure you're not hurting yourself by being on the wrong diet, and they'll probably be a good influence on continuing with it.

    restarting after so long

Good luck! I'm in a similar boat, I'm about a month or so into my newest restart, and even though I'm not gaining I'm still not losing either. We'll all support each other though!

    FOOD DUMP !!!!

Pringles. Oh I want them so bad right now, and they're even in the cupboard. But I don't want to eat them, because I'll be going out tonight and I want the extra 'cushion calories' I have in my diet free for that.

    New years resolution

I usually try not to make New Year's Resolutions, since they end up making me feel worse when I inevitably break them, but this year I felt like it would give me the kick I need. So I'm working on eating healthier and exercising at least 5 days a week. So far it's been pretty good, and I've lost...

    What's realistict to expect....

Health-wise I've been told that losing more than 2.5-3 lbs a week is shading into the unhealthy area. As in, you can damage your body. Obviously at the beginning of a new diet you may do more, but overall that's about what's healthy. That's probably the best way to set your goalposts.

    Exercise Challenge - May 2012

I'm in a hotel for two weeks, so it may or may not be easy. I'll try for 20 hrs this month,, and will update if I can actually get online (hotel internet is odd).

Safety for ladies when walking or running.!

I don't know about the legality of your country, but you could look for a cue baton. The ones I've seen are a 5-6 inch metal rod, about the thickness of your thumb, with a pointy nub at the end. It's heavy, so you could throw it or hit someone, but the main use is to jab into the solar plexus...

    hair dilema :)

My hair is super thick too, and I've found if I want short hair styles I have to get it thinned with the fringe. If I do it looks good, but otherwise I end up looking like a dandelion. Good luck!

    Quitting Smoking Side effects

My mom went through the same thing when she finally quit for good. It will go away eventually, but in the meantime (since you can't afford the doctor) there's a couple things you can try. Exercise creates natural feel-good hormones, and might help with the emotional issues. If it gets you out...

    Flavoured water.. Good or bad?

I'd say the flavored is better than nothing. Something else you could try is unsweetened tea. It gives you subtle flavor but no calories or caffiene and there's so many different flavors to try you'll never get bored of it.

Essential beauty products - What are your bathroom must haves?

I don't care so much about brands, but I won't travel without eyeliner. I've found that if I'm really in a rush then adding eyeliner, pulling back my hair and adding a pair of earrings makes me feel like I've done something with myself, and takes hardly any time at all. It's a great pick me up...

    Acceptance

There's a lot of great advice in here, so maybe I can give you a little story that will help you feel better. My grandmother has diabetes, and she's always told me that she doesn't worry about a small candy bar here, or a bite of cake there. Her motto is that as long as you're taking care of...
  20. K

    Sound like diabetes?

Honestly, even though you should get checked if you're worried, I wouldn't be concerned based on a single symptom. My general rule of thumb for any illness* is that I don't worry about a diagnosis until I've got at least two symptoms that match with whatever thing I'm worried about. Especially...

    Anyone into Anime or Manga?

There's a Deathnote live action film? If you saw it, do you know how well they did with casting and keeping the story intact? There's some pretty dark parts and I'd hate to see it dumbed down because it's become live action.

    Joining weight watchers again

Welcome! I've done it a few times with some success.. I recommend!
  23. K

    Goal weight?

The weight I feel most healthy at is 150, so that's where I want to be. I've given up worrying about BMI's on their own, because I've read so many different studies saying that they don't actually work for the majority of people.
  24. K

Goal Weight Reached - how to maintain?!

Good job! Try to figure out which habits you'll keep around, and then focus on keeping them. Just make sure that you're forgiving of yourself. You'll not keep to your habits every day forever and ever. If you stop for a day or two just remember to start back up when it comes to that.
  25. K

    New start any supporters?

Good luck! I've been there several times, and for me at least it stuck on the last one. It's great when it finally works out, so I hope you'll get where you want to be. Just remember to take it slow. you want to build changes that will last instead of jumping in and then quitting in a few months.

What is the 'look' to aim for??

I actually try super hard not to aim for a body type. So much of what we see is airbrushed and sculpted by personal trainers that I don't think it's possible, or sustainable. I know I'll feel disappointed if I don't get it, and I know logically it's not doable for most people. I aim for...

What r ur nsughty food habits

I munch on the ingredients when I'm cooking. I really need to stop it, because it's so hard to tell how much I've eaten or how many calories I've taken in when I do it.
  28. K

    Eeeek

Good luck! I've found that making small changes is much better than making big ones all at once. Try to maintain a change for just a month at a time, to see if it helps. If so then keep it, and if not move onto something else. It'll go better, I'm sure, than trying to do it all at once.

Any ladies slimming down to TTC no.1?

I'm lucky that I don't have to worry about fertility too much, but I've heard that a lower weight can be much better for the baby. That's why I'm trying to slim a bit before I start having kids. It seems like something that would be helpful for the health of the baby.

    HAVE TO LOSE WEIGHT

I'm sure you can do it without joining anything. Last time I dropped weight I did it by cutting out major amounts of fat, switching to water and tea instead of alcohol or soda and walking more. Give those things a try first before spending any money. Maybe when you stall switching to a gym or...

    Plain old water !!??

This actually sounds really good. I know when I get rid of alcohol I drop pounds, so I bet removing the coffee and the tea would help as well. Though I love my tea. Maybe switching honey out for the regular sugar?

    Insanity workout... Anyone?

I keep seeing advertisements for this on Pandora and I've been interested in getting into it. It's good to know that there are people recommending it.
  33. K

    Nothing on telly ?

I've switched from tv to Hulu and Netflix. It basically fixes the problem of having nothing on, and they have a lot of the newest shows as well. Hulu Plus is really good for those.
  34. K

Workout music, what do you listen to?

I have a Pandora playlist that's basically made out of songs like Ke$ha, Lady Gaga and other dance music. Like 90% of it is female singers too.
  35. K

Which one is your favorite TV show…?

Angel and Buffy, Once Upon a Time, and Grimm. Oh, also I love Charmed. Really I just like the supernatural / fantasy / fairy tale stories, and there are so many of them now!
  36. K

    Best Distraction Books?

Barsoom / John Carter series. You can find it on Project Gutenberg, because it's in the public domain. I also love anything by Jaqueline Carey.

Anyone else have a Stupid Dog?

I don't have one myself (yet) but I have a friend who's got a husky. He's not really treated as well as he should be, cooped up inside and expected to behave, so he comes across as super dumb. Couldn't take an order to save his life, and is incredibly willful and goofy.
  38. K

    My dog

Love those ears! She looks so alert and responsive. I can't wait until I have a house so I can get one of my own. Is she a rescue or did you get her somewhere else?

6 month old male kitten biting!

I started snapping my fingers at mine and saying no in a loud, low voice while I push him away. I did it often enough that now all I have to do is snap and he knows that he's doing something bad.

Any one in to cake making or cake design? Xx

I wish I could do this! I tried to make a Steelers cake for the Superbowl and it went terribly. Does anyone have any good resources for beginners?
  41. K

What's everyone reading at the moment?

I'm reading the Barsoom series, by Edgar Rice Burroughs. They're really good, and are actually a template and inspiration for a lot of the more modern sci-fi authors.
  42. K

    vampire advice wanted

You should go back to some of the classics. Have you read any of Anne Rice's books? There's a lot of them and they're really good, and there's movies of some of the core stories to go to in case you want to see it from both sides.
  43. K

    Favourite places to holiday?

I love Nice. It's a lovely city, from what I remember and the weather when I went was fantastic. I'm also partial to the Adirondacks in New York, USA. in the fall when the leaves are changing it's one of the most beautiful places I've seen.
  44. K

Drop a size or two before holiday in August!

I've got a family vacation in August that I'd love to lose a bit for. My step mother's family has a bit of judgey-ness about weight. They've never directed it at me directly, but I know from the past that they are thinking it.
  45. K

    Horse Riding

I've gone with my sister several times (she's in high school still and goes all the time). They have no problem letting me use their equipment and I've never had to do more than show up in jeans and sneakers.

    Anyone into Anime or Manga?

If you're looking at buying Manga I always recommend anything by Yue Watase. Her art is really nice and the stories are always really engaging.

Clothes Size - How much weight had you to lose to drop a size?

I think it really depends on where you carry your weight and where you lose it from, but in general I seem to drop a size every 15 - 20 lbs I lose.
  48. K

Buying clothes before you have lost weight

I really try not to buy things before I lose the weight for it. I feel like I'd just end up feeling worse if I didn't lose the weight, like I'd wasted money on top on not losing the weight.
  49. K

What is your favourite childhood movie?

Little Nemo in Slumberland! I finally bought a copy a few months ago and it's so good. It's a great mix of absurdity and odd dream logic and a fabulous story. I've been buying up copies of my favorite kid's movies for when I have children myself.

    kindle - questions

Yes and Yes. I really love ebook readers in general. I haven't tried the Kindle specifically, but you can buy all kinds of books online, or get them free. Try Project Gutenberg, that's public domain books.
  51. K

What true story have you read which was really enthralling?

I'm not sure how true it was, but The Other Boleyn Girl was really good. It's historical fiction, so it takes the important moments and facts and then extrapolates them to a full story.
  52. K

    Please help ??

You'd probably do best to try and figure out what genre it's in. Then try to remember the cover and browse Amazon for it. I've had a decent amount of luck trying that tactic to find old books that I love.
  53. K

    Your pets and Their Names?

I have two cats. We found the first when he was a kitten and named him Ash. We've had him for about 7 years. Then we heard about one who needed to be adopted because her foster family couldn't take care of her anymore. We visited and they told us her name is Cinder, which basically clinched it...

How Far Are You From Goal?

I'm about 25 lbs from where I need to be! It's a little over halfway from where I want to be. It's been hard so far, but pretty encouraging.
  55. K

    Knitting pattern request...

I'd second going over to Ravelry. I've found everything except for stuffed animal patterns so far that I've looked for. It's really useful, and most of the patterns I've seen have been free.

    Bellydancing!!!!!!!!

I took a couple classes when I was younger but I don't have the money to do it now. I wish I could though. That's one kind of exercise I would definitely keep going to instead of stopping a couple months in.
  57. K

Anyone into Tattoos,Piercings & Body Modification?

I'd love to get a tattoo or three, but money is a big issue. I'm also kind of a wannabe piercer; my body doesn't like piercings so I've always had to be careful with them. If I was okay for it though I'd probably find a fancy event to get a corset piercing for. I love the way they look!

Tv show This morning debate - new idea about doctors calling 'fat' instead of obese.

I think doctors should really stick to health terms, especially since there have been a lot of studies coming out saying that health isn't as tied to weight as we previously thought. I know I've had problems in the past with doctors ignoring symptoms because they thought it was fat, and it was...

Due on and tired and i want to face plant a cake!!!!

Try to schedule your extras. Plan to have a certain amount of extra on that week, or let yourself off of exercising for a day. Give yourself small rewards that won't throw you off too much.
  60. K

    supersize vs superskinny.

Any kind of show generally has special planners and trainers. I'd keep that in mind if you try to do what they are. Just don't compare yourself too unfavorably to them if you don't do as well as them.
  61. K

    Lunch ideas

I like wraps made with just the lettuce and sandwich meat (no actual wrap-bread). It actually packs and holds up really well, and there's a lot you can do with the variations. I always try to make extra with dinner as well so I can pack left-overs for lunch the next day.
  62. K

What was YOUR kick up the bum???

My husband very kindly told me (in the middle of a massage even!) that I had stretch marks from gaining weight, and that he was concerned for my health. I knew it would take serious concern for him to broach my body issues like that, so I knew I had to listen to him.

    Dating while doing a VLCD

Maybe you should get into the dating pool now by trying to find people in health-conscious places. Go to gyms, find or start a walking group, look up on Meetup.com in your area. That kind of stuff is probably your best bet for finding someone who'll get what you're doing and what your concerns are.
  64. K

    No will power

I know I have low willpower so I work hard to be sure there's nothing in the house for me to cheat with and I try to always have someone around to talk me out of cheating. It's a good way out of low willpower. You just have to outsmart yourself.
  65. K

    Im so mad at myself

You should try to plan your cheat days into your diet. That way it's okay for you to fail once in a while. Being flexible is super important when you're in it for the long haul.

First week lost quite a bit will it continue?

I've always found that the first 10lbs are the fastest and easiest. After that it gets a bit harder, and it's slower going. I think that's why it's so hard for people to keep going. But it's good to see that first burst of progress. Let that carry you forward.
  67. K

    Closed

Wow! That's so great. I'm in a similar situation. I lost 30 last year and I'm hoping to do another 20-30 before my husband and I jump into having kids. Keep going, I'll be rooting for you!

    A healthy ice cream?!?!

I wonder if it would be possible to make that myself? We bought an ice cream maker and love making stuff out of fruit, so maybe this would work, especially since I make my own cheese and always have far too much whey? If anyone else has done similar let me know.
  69. K

    Weighing yourself in the morning?

I do it every day in the morning, right before I shower. It works really well for me, and it gives me a way to look at small changes vs large trends. I only track twice a week though, so I don't get paranoid about it.

What To Eat To Lose Weight/ Need Advice

I don't know if this is something you can do, but my husband and I decided to try being vegetarian on the weekdays and not worry about it on the weekends. We're not strict about it, but in the last two weeks I've lost 10lbs and it's actually given me more energy than I had before.

    Returned

I'm fairly new here, but this isn't my first restart. I actually lost quite a bit of weight when I got sick (not a great way to lose weight) and I'm now working hard to be sure it doesn't come back. Knowing you got some great support before makes me feel more confident about using this site...

    Depression and stress, etc

I've had depression since I was in my tweens. It's been hard to get through sometimes. It's far easier to manage when I have things organized; house, diet, work, etc. Having schedules and staying busy is super helpful for me.

Name 1 physical feature of yours that you like! :)

I love my wrists. Oddly enough that little bit is something I really enjoy. Also, when it's cut right my hair is amazing!

does anybody know of any slimming world recipes to make a cake.

I can't find the recipe right now, but in the past I've used fat free yogurt in brownies and things. It works really well and I've never tasted any difference in taste.

    Barbecue Tips

You could try black bean burgers. Black beans and an egg and bread crumbs and whatever seasonings you like. I get the flavoring closer to an actual burger by adding a cube of beef bullion per can of beans. It's healthy and is awesome with a spicy low fat mayo instead of ketchup.
