I don't think they're ever a waste of time or money. I've learnt languages mainly because I enjoy it but they are useful too. It's unsettling isn't it? Some places do scan if they're not sure which is head and which is bum - I was quite surprised with DD that they can't always tell the difference!!! I'm sure all will be fine though and for your sake I hope it happens soon and you don't have to go overdue with the SPD...

Party sounds fab Jess and all those people will make the house warmer! I grew up without central heating or double glazing too and you do get used to it - my parents only had a fire (gas) in the living room and you were only allowed to have that on if the room was full! Bathroom was always...

    Getting Desperate - Control Pants!

If you're anywhere near a Rigby and Peller they do amazing hold you in underwear. Comfier than all the rest and more smoothing. Anyone had problems with high blood pressure AFTER birth?

143/100 yesterday, 130/100 day before, 130/90 day before that. Steadily rising the last few days. Normally I'm a fairly perfect 120/80 and for most of pregnancy (apart from a few days when they thought I might have pre-eclampsia and was generally unwell)I was 120/70.

Anyone had problems with high blood pressure AFTER birth?

I was kept in hospital for a week so I wasn't at all active then but my blood pressure was fine then, it only started going up a few days after I came home. I'm moderately active - pushing pram round shops etc but I haven't resumed swimming etc yet as my Caesar scar isn't fully healed yet. I...

Anyone had problems with high blood pressure AFTER birth?

Two weeks before delivery my blood pressure shot up and pre-eclampsia was suspected as there were other symptoms too but it was eventually ruled out. It's now 11 days since my C-section. My baby has moved from transverse to normal at 35-36 weeks and it's only my second pregnancy and I never even started labour with the first child so being as this is your fifth I reckon you still have a good chance that it will turn. Transverse lie

DS was transverse and I was told by every obstetrician that it was an automatic Caesar for any baby still transverse at due date or when you go into labour as it is risky for mother and child. Is this a healthy diet for pregnancy?

Laxatives need to be ok'd by your doc when you're pregnant. Some of them can make your womb cramp as well as your bowels so you need to check with the doc or midwife to see what you can have. Prunes are good - they work best if you soak them in fruit juice or water overnight and then have them...

I'd agree with Jo, I found the maternity pads (mothercare's) bulky and leaky and was much happier with Always - I got extra long nighttime ones I think. I'm not bothering with maternity pads this time, just sanitary towels. But it's a matter of preference. What suited you last time?

pregnicare and folic acid on cd?

Take the folic acid. It won't take you out of ketosis and women pregnant or trying to conceive need more than the standard amount of it, so you will be fine to "top-up". And it would mean you're covered if you were to get pregnant earlier than planned - lots of women on VLCDs seem to have...

Sarah, are you short-sighted? My optician told me that it's common for your prescription to change during pregnancy which could cause the headaches. However, he also said there's not much you can do about it as normally it changes back after birth so it's not worth buying new lenses/glasses.

I think the other thing to remember is to have a flexible attitude to this. Whether you go in to the final weeks planning a VBAC or a Caesar, there can always be reasons at the final stage why docs have to change the plan, for yours or the baby's sake. I think it's best to think of birth plans...

    Am I crazy???

No, it's a totally sane and sensible idea. Really, if you eat trash non-stop for a whole holiday you don't even appreciate it after a bit. Insect Bites

I react very badly to mozzie bites - red, hot, hard lumps up to 4 inches across that itch like hell and take about 6 weeks to fade. We live in the tropics at the moment so it was a bit of a problem when I was pregnant and couldn't use any of the more effective repellents but I've found that...

Jess's Diary - Weighed in a day early..

You're doing great Jess. Loving the sound of the recipes - particularly jealous of the cheesecake - I've been wanting to make some for ages but we haven't have plain soft cheese here for ages, we've only had the flavoured ones and somehow I don't think it would taste quite right if I used the...

Jess's Diary - Weighed in a day early..

Your poor mum, how weird it must feel to not actually know how you broke your arm. Well done to your dad for getting another job so quickly and well done you with the STS. Like your plan for tonight, I'll be doing similar as OH is going back into work once the little one is asleep as he has to...

    Bloody boobs

Minimiser bras are horrid -they give you weird lumps and bumps by trying to shove your boobs under your armpits. If you're a 16, try bravissimo.com - they're a shop specialising in bras and clothes for those over a D cup. Clothes aren't the cheapest but aren't too pricy on the whole and...

can anyone please advise me on herbal tea's???

When I did LL we were told you couldn't have any teas which were from the flower, which rules out quite a lot of herbal teas - eg camomile tea is made from the flower of the plant. And yes, all fruit teas are banned. Redbush tea can be nice, also sold as rooibos.

    BMI requirements

I can't understand why your mother would be encouraging you to diet when your BMI is underweight? A BMI of 20-25 is considered to be healthy. Less than that is considered to be underweight.

    Berocca multivitamin

I would have thought you'd need a supplement that included the minerals as well as the vitamins, I think Berocca is just vitamins? Also, if it includes the Essential Fatty Acids that should help keep the brain functioning! :)

    Wolf Hall wins Booker Prize

You might find William Cecil interesting too in that case. Also a man who rose through from lower status to immense power under the Tudors (in his case, Elizabeth) and played a very dangerous game at time. Similarities to Cromwell there and very interesting.

Why has my weight loss slowed so much?

If you're getting close to a normal BMI your weight loss will probably slow down a lot. It's always faster the fatter you are, as you lose the weight it slows.

I don't know whats wrong- if anything?

I imagine it's just a bad period, I've had ones like that. But if it's worrying you and out of the ordinary for you then probably best to see your doc or call NHS Direct to help put your mind at rest. Hope it's all eased now. x

    Wolf Hall wins Booker Prize

I'm not a big fan of Booker winners overall, though I've liked a few. For me, the winner of the Orange Prize is usually a more reliable bet. Anyway, Skua, everyone's different, you might like it.
