SeeLuLu's 8 Week stint

Hello

I have decided to do this for a time-limited period as, although I could probably do with losing 6 stones, I am not sure I could start this knowing I have 6 months! I am slightly in awe of people who can do that! My plan is to do 8 weeks and then continue with ADF to lose some more.

So, I have done a vlcd before for 8 weeks, lost a couple of stones and managed to lose a bit more with ADF and then maintained with 5:2. For reasons I won't bore you with, I lost the fasting habit and the weight has returned. Annoying - but I have to face up to it.

I'm on day 3 and doing OK, so far but finding today hard mentally. Have managed so far on 1 meal pack - Spag Bol. I find holding out for as long as possible each day helps me. Popped up to the shops earlier to top up in veg supplies for me and other things for the family. I found it OK looking at all the 'goodies' and even bought hubby and kids some chocs! I was hoping to get some sugar free jelly sachets as I noticed on the SnS site that you can have this now - wahey! Also ordered some Slim noodles and the like from Holland and Barrett which I am hoping will help bulk things out a little.

I'm laying off fizzy drinks as I don't think they have helped me previously and I'm forgoing coffee as well. Focusing on water and a couple of cups of tea each day to keep me going.

2 days done, 54 to go. :)

Thanks for the welcome. I'm hoping 8 weeks will see me lose 2 stone? But for me the most important goal is to do the actual 8 weeks and to let the numbers on the scales take care of themselves!

Hello - day 3 - you'll be in ketosis soon - if not already. Well done on buying chocs for someone else - I have never ever been able to do that!!!

I find a time limit helps too. I did this for 13 days in December after my refeed week and before stopping for hubby's birthday. I literally wrote down the days and every morning I striked through them. Was great seeing it ticked off everyday!! Xx

Not sure if I went into ketosis on day 1 actually? I'm pretty used to fasting now and experienced headaches on day 1 but they have all gone now. Struggled to work out today if it was real or mental hunger. Whatever it was, it was definitely my toughest day so far.

good luck with it. I decided to give it 4 weeks in September at 100% for the same reasons but that was enough to inspire me to carry on till Christmas. I'm sure once you see the results and get in the zone you'll be the same. I'm just restarting after a 10 day break.

You've done really well! I'm just committing totally to 8 weeks. I'll re-evaluate then but for now, in my head, it's 8 weeks and that's it!

What a good idea to set a time limit, makes it less daunting rather than thinking you want to get to a certain weight , might try that myself

Loads less daunting for me. But then I know some have a specific weight goal that they need to reach by a certain time, so my circumstances are different perhaps. I've been wondering for a while if I need to set myself a range of 'time related' goals, so 8 weeks on vlcd, then so many weeks on 4:3 then complete the year on 5:2. Then restart the process in 2015 and so on until I finally reach a healthy BMI! My weight issues are long standing and so I think I really must begin to take a long-term view of how to address and manage it.

Anyway, back here in the short term - yesterday felt tough. Really tough. Got through it with 2 shakes (chocolate and cafe latte - both warmed up), a Spag Bol meal pack and a cottage pie meal pack with Brussels and cabbage. Lots of water. Today, I've woken up feeling significantly less hungry. Phew.

Not had any packs yet just some tea. Have bunged a chicken in the oven. The family will eat with potatoes, veg, gravy etc and I will have some chicken and my veg. I've decided that some days I will do a straight 4 packs + veg/milk and other days I'll do the 3 packs and protein meal. So today is a 3 pack day.

Right, 3 days done - 53 to go!

Good luck Hun. It seems like you have a good plan of action here! I agree 6 months sounds like an awfully long time. Personally I'm going to have find out more about 5:2. It sounds like a good maintenance plan.

Thanks for stopping by my diary.

5:2 is great. Many people seem to be able to lose on it but for me it is about maintenance. I do lose on 4:3 though. I also suspect that I have to work harder at ditching sugar.

Definitely with you on the sugar and refined carbs. I really need to lose them if I want to maintain a healthy weight but so hard when they are everywhere and so convenient. I'm thinking of some sort of transition to 5:2 or similar. Tried it in the summer but think it will be easier adding in eating days to a vlcd than trying to add in fast days to regular eating.

What a good idea giving yourself 8 weeks to see how you do :) Best of luck xx

That is so right... I first did intermittent fasting when coming off a vlcd and it felt a breeze!

Today has been a whole lot easier than yesterday. Chicken and Veg at lunchtime, red fruits shake at 4pm, mushroom pasta and remaining veg at 6pm and deciding when to have my last shake of the day.

Just had a 20min brisk walk on the treadmill (I'm a runner when I'm thinner!!), followed by a lovely long bath. All good. I can do this.

Throughout the day, I've managed to cope really well with preparing food for the family including peanut butter sandwiches and the like! I'd say that's a small victory to be proud of!

Back to work tomorrow.

That's what I found tough in the beginning, trying not to lick the knife when making the kids peanut butter sarnies etc x

Day 5 nearly done and all on plan! Go me! Back at work and surrounded by everyone's chocs and biscuits they have brought in to use up! I stayed strong though. Phew.

Have had a 4 pack plus veg and milk day today. Soup at lunchtime, shake at 3pm (aka danger time), curry at 5:30 with veg and just polished off my last shake of the day. Whoever mentioned that you can warm up the shakes in the microwave was inspired! I am really appreciating the warmth - I think it's a psychological boost somehow.

5 days done - 51 to go.
