60g or 1 slice of any wholemeal bread from an 800g loaf is a HEXB. I think the equivalent is 6 syns. So if you wanted a sandwich with two slices it'd be 1 HEXB + 6 syns (plus whatever filling, obviously!)

I think if you get the small wholemeal loaves (400g) then you can have two slices as your healthy extra but someone tell me please if I've got it wrong

Absolutely right - but the OP was asking about the larger loaf I think.

Ive just looked in the book and it says four syns, would that be right or would it just depend on what brand it is? :)

Just checked mine too - it's very confusing! Wholemeal medium thickness slice 800g loaf is 4, thick slice is 5.

Maybe one thick slice isn't quite 60g so they just rounded it up for the online list? It's not all that clear but I would go with one slice of 800g wholemeal loaf being 6 syns - then I cannot possibly be underestimating :)

I refuse to start weighing blinkin' bread and chopping one slice up to get the "rest of my 60g" :8855:

I do weigh bread - I have the second slice, weigh it to see how much more than 60g it is and syn the bit that weighs more. So if I have two slices from an 800g loaf, they weigh 80g. 60g + 20g. 20g of wholemeal bread is 2 syns. So I count a Hex B and 2 syns.

I couldn't be doing with chopping up bread to make exactly 60g either. :)

As a rule of thumb, if the bread slice is 120cals it is going to be 6 syns, if it is 100cals then 5 syns, 80 cals its 4 syns - hope that helps x

I haven't eaten bread / crispbread in a month, except for one wholemeal pitta and a few Ryvita - all in easily measured portions, so you can tell bread isn't high on my list of menu plans :)

it is all very confusing lol, i havent eaten bread in ages! but i miss having sandwiches! and i struggle with healthy extras sometimes so i thought id use bread, will get the 400g loaf though next time to make life easier. it does seem silly weighing bread but it has to be done.

If you get morrisons own make medium whole meal- about 75p, 2 slices weigh 60-62g so you can have a proper sandwich. And it's nice bread x
