Light in the box

Hi All
Just wondered if anyone has ever ordered anything from Light in the Box?
I've seen a wedding dress on there that I LOVE and don't think I'd find on the high street- certainly not for anywhere near the price of this one.
There's always an element of risk buying online and I've read mixed reviews..
Any experiences?

I had a good look at their website and nowhere could I find where they are located, which made me wonder. Turns out (found out from other sources) that they are in China. There are good reviews and bad reviews, but one thing which comes up regularly is the fact that the customer is responsible for paying any customs tax or duty, and this could be quite a large amount. Also there are problems with delivery, and cancellation charges.

If you order from a UK, or an EU, company, you have the law on your side if something goes wrong. You don't get that if you are dealing with a company based in China.

Have a look at the Money Saving Expert website. I also found an interesting and very comprehensive review a women in business site - if you Google complaints against light in the box, it should be the second item which appears.

Personally I would not risk it, mainly because of the customs issues. Something could get held up in customs and you would not be able to retrieve it until you had paid the duty and there is no way of knowing how much that would be.

Hi Anna
Thanks for your thoughts!
I have had a read around too over the past week or so. Ive trawled reviews- I dont think for a minute all of the glowing ones are genuine!- but most of the complaints seem to relate to refunds for cancellations. As im not ordering on a whim I dont think this would be a problem for me personally.
Re customs charges it does vary, having bought things from china/japan before its unlucky if you get caught out, only happened to me twice, and its usually around the 20% mark (VAT I am informed!) which is fine. I think in Canada they charge be up to 60% but even at that my dress would still only come in at £150ish.
I wondered if I paid for it on either of my credit cards I might be protected?

I know this thread is a couple of weeks old but my sister got her wedding dress and bridesmaids dresses from there and they were all fab!

The only issues we had were they send the dresses out in tiny boxes so they will need ironed or professionally pressed for your wedding. Also my sister ordered knee length dresses for us and despite giving our height and asking for them to be short, they were still mid-calf. She was able to get them altered for next to nothing so wasn't too bothered. Her dress was floor length and was the perfect length for her measurements.
