My Husband and I loved these when we were last in Greece and we saw them again in Amsterdam and I thought I'd have to search for a decent recipe.

We tried this on Saturday night and now Hubby and DD want this every night!!

It's syn free if you use the Wholemeal Pitta as a healthy extra - Good for EE but also Green or Red if you adjust the ingredients accordingly (and use another HEB..)

Seasoning Mix:
· 3 tablespoons of sea salt
· 1 1/2 teaspoons of sweet paprika
· 1/4 teaspoon of pepper
· 1/4 teaspoon of finely crushed (powdered) Greek oregano (rigani)
(If there's any seasoning mix left over, store in an airtight jar and use again for gyro or as a rub for pork souvlaki)
Plus White Wine Vinegar to marinade

About 4 chicken breasts or other chicken pieces
Syn Free Chips
Lettuce, cucumber, tomato and onion, chopped.
Home made Tzatziki
Asda Wholemeal Pitta (4)

In a small bowl combine paprika, salt, pepper, and oregano.

Make the Gyro Meat:
Slice the chicken as thin as you can (you can use a meat hammer if you need to get it flatter). In a flat-bottomed container, arrange one layer of slices, sprinkle liberally with seasoning mixture, then with a little vinegar. Spread the vinegar over the meat so that all pieces are moistened. Add layers, spices, and vinegar until all the meat has been marinated. Cover and refrigerate for 1/2 hour to 2 hours.

Remove meat from the refrigerator and dry fry (without any oil) in a non-stick frying pan until well browned and slightly crisp.

Slightly toast the pitta and carefully open, spread the tzatziki inside (LFN Yog, mint, garlic, grated cucumber, salt and pepper) then put in salad, chicken and syn free chips (you can have these on the side if you prefer)

You can mix it up and have it without the chips, ditch the pitta and have the chicken salad and chips with the tzatziki on the side.

This is going to be a new fave of ours as it tastes just like a calorie ridden gorgeous Kebab :D

yum, thanks so much for this, this is saturday (faturday) night food in my house! will try it out on my family tomorrow!!! xxx

Making this tonight, will let you know how it goes!

Was really nice, I used turkey steaks rather than chicken which worked really well.

You need the tzaziki or something similar as it gives a bit of tang against the saltiness of the meat.
We had ours with a healthy extra wholemeal pitta and a pile of salad. Yum yum

I made this tonight and it was delicious! I reduced the amount of salt, as I'm conscious of my high blood pressure but it was still fab. I served it on lots of shredded iceberg lettuce with SW chips and a dash of garlic sauce. :)
