Drinking challenge (and I don't mean booze)

So we're now all experts at food optimising, but how well are we doing with our fluid intake?

I for one personally feel that unless peeing is annoying- you wake to use the toilet 3 times in the night, your colleagues think you have a problem because you're in the loo every 10 mins- then you're probably not drinking enough to warrant help with weight loss. (I'm no doctor).

Water is good- cleans you out, the more you drink the less you retain and thirst can sometimes be confused with hunger.

So I plan to record my drinkage for a week just to make sure I am having enough. How much is enough?- I do not know.

I'm just recording it though.

Feel free to join/ comment/ provide actual scientific knowledge (if beneficial, positive or fun).

Here we go...

Day 1

cup of tea x 3
pint of water x 2
Pepsi Max (600ml)

Good idea! I got a Fit Bit for Xmas and so I log my water in there.

New Year's Day, so I'll count it as day 1! I agree that hunger is often confused for thirst so I'm now going to make a conscious effort to drink more thanks to this reminder :)

Day 1

1200mls

Oooh I completely forgot about this as I am sure you can see.
I will begin monitoring again tomorrow although I have consciously upped my liquid intake in the last 2 days in preparation for this evenings weigh in!

How did you go today Lauren?

Did well...I feel like a water balloon ha!!

Day 2: 2000ml / four half litres

I drink from a Brita water filter bottle so can glug back quite a lot :D was a bit worried it'll make me heavier for weigh in tomorrow morning?? I'll have to make sure I pee as much as I can before 9.30! Lol =D =D

Also avoided so many extra portions of food, even if they would be free on Extra Easy, I drank instead and didn't feel starved! ;) bonus

Not been so good today, forgot to drink! I could have done way more being my day off.

Day 3: 2000ml / 2 litres

Been bad again! :p

1200ml. Shocking!! I'm aiming for 2,500ml a day...and getting nowhere near. No wonder I'm hungry all the time I'm not checking I'm not dehydrated first!

I made a mental note today to make a mental note of how much I drank.
I lost count.

I know I had 3 LARGE mugs of tea and a definite 5 pints of water/ squash but I think its more than that...

Wow, I feel like a fish after all I've drank!! Lol. No room for food :D

Mug of tea
Mug of hot chocolate
Glass of lemon juice - 500ml
750ml of water

I also need to drink more. There's a fab app I got that you track all your fluids in so whether it's tea/coffee/soda/water it counts it all
Also tea and coffee actually dehydrates you so you can't technically count it, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, I never knew that so thought I would share x

Hi Lauren I was just wondering how you like your Fitbit? I got a new one at Xmas, my husband nicked my old one when he lost his 2nd one! We're now at war to see who does the most steps in the rolling week score. Since I found out there was a friends option that gives our running tally I've taken the lead & it's driving him mad :D

I think i'm going to give this a go as i don't think i'm drinking nearly enough.

Can you count water if you have sugar free squash?

Hi Lianne I'm pretty sure you can count that. It's just tea & coffee that I'm not sure about

if you have an iphone (and possibly and android) there is a fab app you can get called water balence and you log all your fluid intake there - it shows how much you are to your daily target by filling a body up, its a good visual aid :)

Hi I have downloaded an app it's mad how much I.should be drinking for my weight I used to think I was quite good at having.2 litres a day but apparentlyI should be having nearly 5 litres does this sound right?
Ps the apps downloaded was called hydro and u enter it weight in it. The water balance app says am full....I def feel full!!

hmmm...will have a look to see if I got hydro on my phone. 5 litres seems a tad excessive though..

not drinking enough is my biggest problem with trying to lose weight. thanks for this. Will be downloading app X
