My target according to THE graph means I'll still be overweight

So nearing the end of the longest SW journey ever - I need to ask other members this.........

My target is 12 stone. That means I will technically still be overweight but it's what I want to be. I am now in a size 14/16 and when I was thin and 'normal' I was only ever a 14. I have big boobs, wide hips, broad shoulders and a large frame and I know that any lighter, not only will I not be able to maintain but I will start to look scraggy.

Has anybody else set a heavy ish target? Please tell me I'm not alone lol xxxx

Hi!

Yep, I'm pretty much the same. I would like to get down to just under 11 stone which will still be overweight according to the BMI chart. I don't really want to lose any more than that as I don't think it suits me and I will be a size 12-14 which will be great for me.

I think as long as you're happy then that is the main thing :) These charts are a guide I guess and we're not all going to look/feel comfortable at what they say we should be!

Mine is 11st and yes, technically I'll still be overweight but to be honest I think the BMI chart is a load of rubbish and we should just be what we are happy with. I'm a size 10-12 and that makes me ecstatic so why would I want to be skinnier? I'm pear shaped so look really small on the top half. I do t want to get any more boney than I already am lol x

The target I set when I attended group was a heavy target which sw allow you to do and I think is great. The only thing I've learnt from that is because with things that occur like birthdays and Christmas etc I have seemed to be above this target at between about 7-14ish lbs which I still don't think is too bad as its been a couple of years but I'm not as happy at the top end of that.
Obviously this is my experience and if you feel you can maintain your target weight constantly it won't be an issue for you but my advice would be to get to the lowest you can which gives you a bit of lea way to gain a bit every now and then but still be happy.....not sure if that makes sense?
I'd set a target you think YOU are happy with and you can always change it if you aren't.
Well Done on the fab progress you have made xx

Hiya Emsie - I got to 11.10 about 14 years ago and was skin and bone lol - I am actually quite happy as I am at the mo and think 12 will be a good target weight but will obviously alter if and when I need to x I have NEVER been a size 10 so I don't think at the ripe old age of 45 I will be now x

Sizings have changed over the years - a size 10 now would have been a size 14 back in the 70s - so you may well become a size 10!

I would say if you felt you were skin and bone at 11.10 then it is reasonable to settle for a higher weight; you don't want to end up struggling to get to a look you don't like. BMI tables are only a guide - and a very rough and ready one at that.

My target weight last time was hard to get to and as as soon as I was there I felt I would have been happier, yet just as healthy at 4lbs over that. A nurse measured my BMI with the electronic machine as was happy so don't worry too much and maybe ask your GP or nurse for their advice as you get to first target. The height/weight table is just a guide in my opinion.

A BMI cal is telling me I should be 12st. I just don't see it. I don't think I'll be happy with my weight then, I'll be too thin. I'm going to lose until I'm happy.

My target of 11st will still put me in the overweight category, however last time I was lower than that (a long time ago) everyone kept asking if I was ill! I'm naturally curvy - I've got big boobs and never lose weight around my chest area so I look ridiculously out of proportion as a size 10. I'm confident i'll be happy with slightly overweight and a size 12.

I agree with the suggestion to talk to your doctor. They could maybe check things like your blood pressure and cholesterol to see if you are overall healthy, and also can do some calculations about things like weight:hip measurements which help assess your risk of diabetes. Drs seem to have different opinions on how important BMI is. There is an online healthy weight calculator you can google for that gives suggestions for healthy weights for different body frames, maybe have a look at that? Otherwise if you feel well, confident and the dr agrees that you are healthy, do whatever you want!

My target is 10.5 st and that's as thin as I should ever get. I have a large frame and am 5"6. I've gotten down to 10st before and looked unhealthy and bony! So I'll decide when I get to 11st whether that extra half st is needed.
Go with whatever target you have set and never mind those charts!

I spoke to my lovely consultant about this today. I got to my interim target of 12 stone 7 and have set my next one at 12. She says to carry on as I am and if I am still losing weight then to lower my target again. I am going to see how it goes and not get too stressed about it. x

The BMI chart is only a guideline, and doesn't take into account different frames, amount of lean body mass etc. I would get down to whatever you feel comfortable and healthy at, and use that feeling as your guide,
