Slimming World App Rant

Just thought I would put it out there that I find the app really annoying (it could possibly be the phone I have) I just wish it had a scanner on it so when in Tesco or whatever you could just scan for the syns rather than scroll through looking!

It might be lazy but it is more on the go that the on the go section of the app, I think the fat secret app (could be another one) has it and I found it handy when I used it for calorie counting pre SW.

Contact the developers and give them feedback... it might be something they could look into for a future update.

The app and the web page are dire in comparison to WW. The recipe search function is far too basic for a 2014 web page. I like the SW diet but wish they had the app and on-line tools that WW has.

I too have had issues. I love their website but the phone app isn't great. If you mistype a word or leave out an apostrophe it wont recognise it and also I have put products in and been shocked at the syns but then looked again and it has been on the syn values for green.
I did WW briefly and as much as I didn't like the diet, I agree their tools are much better x

Body Magic Challenge doesn't work on my mac either which is really frustrating so I have to use the boring accessible table. Not very motivating

I absolutely love the slimming world plan however I do have to agree with you. Both the app and the website are so far behind. Even their paper food diary sheets are old fashioned! x

SW won't be adding anything new to the app as its been superceded by the mobile site. It's a bit better than the app in that it has all the same functionality of the SW website but yes the syn search is pretty bad :(

I tried to use the mobile site today and couldn't get on it. It kept telling me I had to delete the cookies but wouldn't actually let me scroll up the page to see the full instructions. Using a mobile web page is so old fashioned rather than a properly designed app. Sounds like they can't be bothered.

In defense of the web site, I actually think it is really good now (on Android). Are you using the mobile site (m dot slimmingworld dot com)? As mentioned above, the Syn search is very good. Was using it in Tesco today (on Tesco's free wifi - Asda are doing the same, makes browsing a pleasure)

Yes I am using the mobile site m. When it works it is fine but it bombs out asking me to delete cookies. So I have to close the page, reopen and login again. Pain.

Searching for recipes is just a pain as well, same as the syns. You put in back bacon for example and it comes up with 100s of foods that contain bacon. Surely a modern search engine would put plain old back bacon at the top! Recipes - I think I searched for roast potatoes and the same thing happened I got any recipe that contained potatoes before I got one that had roast potato in the title. It should be much more clever than that as I think could even write that piece of code.

It needs filters and a cleverer way of searching. I think they have just quickly created a website to keep up with WW but have never actually tidied it up.

Such a shame as it could be so much better

Hi SaraB, that's odd - I don't see that at all. If I search for roast potatoes in recipes the first entry is Dry Roast Potatoes. And a syn search for back bacon returns Aldi, Asda, etc back bacon - as I'd expect. And no warning about cookies. You'll want to avoid cookies anyway - think of those syns... :)

I'm using the Chrome browser on Android (on a Samsung phone). Very puzzling!

iPhone. But I search for the recipes on the main computer. Normal sugar is another one that doesn't appear either unless I do it via the food diary. Grrr technology!

I think they may be having problems. The everyday food search option on the website used to bring up just things like sugar, flour, honey, the basic average syn values. But for a while now its been bringing up all the branded products as well and that makes it a nightmare to fine things. I've complained several times but don't get a response :(

That makes sense. I have a feeling they aren't IT favourable. I told them that the body magic app didn't work and they told me to use safari on my mac. Mmmmm that is what it comes with. I was then told to download an alternative browser. Mmmmm why would I do that when I have a perfectly working mac. Then she said she had contacted IT and they said they know macs aren't very compatible. No more response when I suggested that they fixed this as more and more people are getting macs and actually flash works well on macs just not on iPad etc.
