Massive weight gain in a day? Temporary?

So i've been on SW for one whole week. Had picked my weigh in day to be Sunday. I had been sporadically weighing myself all week as I got curious. :) Yesterday, I was 3lbs down.

Over the weekend, I had a night out on Friday where I was drinking bottles of Heineken. I ate very little that day and had no syns until my beer. I had also stored up lots of syns during the week. I was sick at the end of the night.. (ive turned into a bit of a lightweight). :D

Then yesterday, I had a chinese take away but I ordered the healthiest thing I could find and had it with boiled rice.

I'm due my period today but no sign just yet. Imagine my surprise when I got on the scales this morning and i'm now back to where I started. I'm at exactly the same weight as last Sunday!!!! :(

Is this weight gain just temporary due to the period and the big dinner last night? Or have I well and truly blown it? I have been exceptionally good all week. I have written down every morsel that's gone into my mouth. I've eaten mostly free foods and finish each day with an average of 9 syns that I haven't eaten.

Jeez, if you can't even have a few beers (I only drink once a month btw) and the odd healthy take away, i'm not sure this is for me. :(

Help!

I wouldn't worry, it might be bloat or excess water? Give it a week and it will adjust. Drink lots of water and cut down on salt. Some Chinese takeaways still have MSG in so will cause you to retain water

So does that mean that I shouldn't really expect a loss next week? if it takes a week to adjust what's going on now, that will affect next week's loss probably. :(

I wouldn't weigh sporadically, weight can fluctuate so much! Stick to one day one time. My weight can be up 4lbs depending in when I weigh!

I can't say for sure but I will say please stop thinking about it as a diet, it's a change in lifestyle, for life. It's fine to have a drink and a takeaway, that's life. Enjoy it. I hope you do lose weight next week but if you don't, don't panic and pack it all in. I used to think like that and thats how I ended up losing weight, then putting more back on again. Even if it's a little loss, they add up. You'll be at target in no time

I know. I'm bloody ridiculous with weighing myself. I must stop. I just get so curious. But I will start to limit how much I do it.

His-beau - thanks for your encouraging words. I know it's absolutely a change of lifestyle and i'm really embracing it. I love the plan and it doesn't feel like a diet at all. I suppose it was because this is my first weekend on it. I rarely get take-away's or drink and this weekend included both of those things. So I suppose I just felt extremely naughty. I have been in denial about my weight for almost a decade. So I really really want the excess weight gone. I think thats why i'm obsessively weighing myself. :) As I see more and more losses, I think that will fade as i'll know i'm on the right track.

I know and it's so disappointing when you don't see what you want on the scales, keep going! I think if you stick to it you'll be at target in about 4-5 months
I'm hoping for 6 months to be at target! I have a full size 10 wardrobe waiting for me!

Hi Morshield
I too showed a gain at Wai on Friday. I was disappointed as it was the first gain I've had since starting plan.
I've since realised that it is TOTM for me (im on a funny pill so lose track) which always causes me to bloat, retain water and feel yuk all round!
Your beer will gave dehydrated you, coupled with the salt in the takeaway, so my guess is itll be water retention above all.
I am terrible for the intermittent weighing too, im thinking about challenging myself not to weigh for a month?!
Hope you have a good week, try not to be too disheartened. We're in it for the long haul!

I wouldn't worry about it to be honest.

My consultant advises that you should only really weigh yourself once per week but if you plotted a graph f your weight loss over time, you would notice a pattern emerging.

Personally, I tend to not weigh myself until mid-week at home just to check the scales are going down the correct way, if they aren't then I can act upon it and tweak to Success Express and change the proportion of Super-free food to 66% of the plate rather than the advised 33%.
If I did get a disappointing result mid-week, I may pop on on Friday as well to check that the scales are still going the correct way.

It's probably the incorrect thing to do but I like to be careful and monitor things to avoid a nasty surprise if that makes any sense. :)

Look at it this way. You weigh yourself at midday and you're 15st 5lbs, you then eat a large meal, weigh yourself immediately after and are 15st 8lbs, later that evening after going to the toilet you weigh yourself and you're 15st 4lbs.

All that's happening is that "weight" is passing through your system. What matters is the weight that sticks around, that's why SW always recommend weighing on the same scales at the same time on he same day every week. That way it avoids most of the fluctuations.
