Negative comments !!!!

I'm going to have a rant so here goes ! I have a "friend " who also struggles with her weight but has never done anything about it which is none of my business it's up to her. It's her body although she has lots of health issues bad hips knees ..... I've not seen her for a while due to us both having other commitments but keep in contact via text messages . I saw her mum and mum in law recently and apparently I have lost loads of weight and look really ill !!!!! I'm fuming just because I've decided to take control and sort out my weight problem and a big part was for health I'm on HRT and was advised by my Dr to loose weight plus I started getting knee problems myself which I no longer have . If I was so ill don't think I'd be able to run 5 miles twice a week and cycle 30 miles ! Sorry for going on but I bet I'm not the only one who have had negative comments . My other friends and family say how proud they are of me and how much better I look guess some people don't like it when others succeed. Weight loss is not easy for any of us and is a life long commitment and I am so impressed by anyone who gives it a go to improve themselves so well done fellow members :) xx

Aw its sad she is so jealous...maybe she will eventually take, inspiration from you and do something about her own weight and health..dont let her get you down..you are better than that as you have made the improvement all on your own..its sad when friends cant be supportive but hold your head up and be proud of what you are doing. I hope she learns from you and makes the right move herself...and then apologises to you

"The jealous are troublesome to others, but a torment to themselves. ~William Penn, Some Fruits of Solitude, 1693"

Jealousy is not an admirable quality, your anger is a wasted emotion, as clearly she feels so bad about herself she is projecting this towards you and your success. Feel proud of yourself and your achievement! :D

I've got a friend like that, a week after having a go at me for being on SW, she joined herself!

I agree. I know it's not nice to have negative comments made when you have made a positive decision to improve your health and eating habits but don't waste your anger on her pettiness and jealousy. Be proud of your achievements, that's the best retaliation!

I'll be honest, that sounds like envy talking. I know it's not nice to hear comments like that, but try to remember where they're coming from ;)

Your friends and family who are telling you how proud they are of you are the people you need to be listening to. They're the ones who you are going to be around for the most part, so try not to pay attention to anyone else who is trying to put you down for your amazing achievement so far. On a side note.. cycling 30 miles?? I think that'd just about kill me!

Thanks everyone I'm over it now funny thing is just makes me more focused to get to where I want to be so it sort of back fired :) . Good luck everyone xx

Great! Don't let things like that get to you, good luck to you too! :)

By following SW, you're not under eating or starving yourself thin. You're getting fit and healthy and should be proud of how far you've come. I had a friend who commented on my weight loss recently and she asked my what is my goal dress size and I told her my goal is to be a happy and healthy size 10 and she told me that I shouldn't want to get that thin and being curvier is better. I was slightly taken aback and a bit offended as she used to be a size 8-10 but in the last two years she's gone to a size 12-14 and keeps complaining that's she's gained weight and is unhappy. People are beautiful in all sizes and as long as you're happy and healthy there's nothing wrong :)

Well said people act a bit strange sometimes when others are achieving their goals guess it hits a raw nerve ! Here's to being healthy and happy :) xx

Remember that quote? "PLease God, if you cant make me thin, then make my friends fat"!

You sound like you have done amazingly well - hopefully she will do the same for herself

Well done you and don't let her get to you.

I think part of the issue might be that we as a society have got so accustomed to people being overweight that we see it as normal. I now feel like I am 'slim' (and my mum says I shouldn't lose any more!) when I'm actually at the top end of my healthy BMI range! Yet at the other end of the scale we have bone-thin models... it's like there's no room for acceptance of what is actually healthy. At the end of the day you are doing what is right for your health (and if your friend was honest with herself she might realise the damage she is doing to her own health). We have to fight the voices in society that push food at us from all directions just like we have to fight this trend towards being bigger and bigger.

This is so true this person has been overweight all her life and unfortunately her children are as well and have negative body image diabetes plus other issues which is so sad . Last time I saw her she asked " are you still going to weight watchers ? " I do Slimming World ! She never listens it's all about her..... She then said slimming clubs don't work they're only after your money. She recently saw her Dr about her health problems and she suggested joining a support group to help eat more healthy and give her all the information about nutrition all for free on NHS which I thought was brilliant. You go once a month for help and support. She went once when I asked about it she said she's not going anymore as she can't be bothered ! There is no hope with some people as I said it's her life so it's her choice it's a shame that the children are unfortunately the same! Don't want to bore you all just wanted to share some background info especially if the same has happened to anyone else . Happy Friday have a cool weekend xx

Par for the course for weightloss im afraid. Sometimes its jealousy, sometimes its genuine concern. We associate instinctively, weightloss with illness. The flabby flesh can make your face look puffed hiding the wrinkles. Your eyes can sometimes look more drawn following weightloss.

I got it all the time, i went from the left to the right, and some people thought i looked ill!
