Friday Night Treat

Hi guys/gals..
I want to treat myself to something nice tonight/over the weekend...
Last week I made the SW fish + chips it was lovely and totally syn free, the weekend before I made the SW curry whilst my boyfriend ordered a dirty chinese!

I want to make Nachos tonight by cutting up a tortilla wrap into small pieces and putting in the oven, then making my own salsa and getting a low fat sour cream. Has anyone tried this? What other treats do you have of a weekend?

:)

I would imagine this would make them quite high in syns as you are not using the tortillas wraps in the way they are intended to be used- look up the syn value online, and count the syns- it could be in excess of 20/30 syns!!

I would much rather munch on a bag of Quavers or two!!!

If you want a chinese- make a sweet and sour chicken (theres a recipe on the recipe bit- its the fanta chicken) and make springs rolls with it- you need the just roll pastry (the one in the PURPLE packaging) which is 2 syns a sheet, and you can easily make 3 spring rolls with it depending how much filling you use, you may even stretch to four.

Or KFC chicken, coleslaw and syn free gravy- yummy! Again, on the recipe bit.

the tortilla wraps are between 5-8 depending on the brand..if i put them in the oven, do you think this will effect the syn value?

thank you for those fab ideas!

That might be true in the case of things like pasta, potato etc which are free if you use them in the right way but tortilla wraps are NEVER free anyway - they will always be 1 syn per 20 calories as there is NO free food in them.

So it makes absolurely zero difference what you do with them. They wil always be 1 syn per 20 calories.

Non-free food is always a calorie-counting exercise so they will be the same syns whether you use them as a sandwich, breadcrumbs, baked, whatever.

brill thank you! in the end i joined in with the buffet at work, crisps, some chocolcates, sour cream/salsa, sausage rolls, mini sausages, i allowed 65syns just incase as i did have 2 plates full. 5syns to last me now til next Wednesday evening :(

I just make my chips superfree! :D Celeriac chips are cool. Or some people use swede. Celeriac comes closest I think :)

Out of interest I was wondering what you guys would normally use as your superfree to go with Syn free chips? I really want to make them but am lacking inspiration to get my superfree in!

Baked beans? Mushy peas?

Neither baked beans nor mushy peas are superfree!!!

I usually have a small side salad (obviously takes around 1/3 plate), or I make my own salsa sauce which is mainly tomatoes/onions etc, and is therefore superfree.

If you're struggling to get that 1/3 with chips, why not try green days, where the superfree is only advised, not 'compulsary'. My and my OH love having quorn sausages, chip and beans topped with cheese on green days - though I do make sure dessert is a fruit salad if I'm having that!
